Of all Metallica's discography, this is easily their most overlooked and under rated song. It's always been one of my favorites.
Agreed. There are extremely good songs off of both load and reload as well.
I agree, too. This is my favorite song on the Black album. Extremely underrated.
Agreed. They need to play Of Wolf & Man more often
Beyond magnetic has their most underrated songs
Yeah, for me this song and cyanide are the most underrated
"In wildness is the preservation of the world" is a quote from Henry David Thoreau. Love this song! 🤘
There's 3 or 4 quotes or book titles in the lyrics.
- "I HUNT, THEREFORE I AM" is taken from Descartes' "I think, therefore I am".
- "CALL OF THE WILD" is a book title by Jack London.
- The song title itself "OF WOLF AND MEN" refers to John Steinbeck's novel title "Of Mice and Men".
- And your quote from Thoreaux.
Nobody can tell me that James Hetfield just finished high school and then formed Metallica with Lars Ulrich. He's not an academic, but at least he seems to be well read. You can't just pick these quotes and titles out of nowhere. He might try to keep this private, but that man is smarter than people think.
@@herbertwest9626 Much of James' lyrics and titles come from books and movies through his career.
James has been an avid hunter for his entire life and The wolf is his' spirit animal, he even wore a wolf pendant in this era
I think they was inspired of the shapeshift scene in "American Werewolf".
It's like you have the worst bad trip ever.
This song is about going back to basics, living off the land, no tech, etc... Returning to our essence as predators, one with nature and all that.
Who would've thought that almost 40 years later, we might be doing that. If WW3 happens. There is a quote by Einstein, "I do not know what weapons WW3 will be fought with, but WW4 will be fought with sticks and stones."
I LOVE wolves so this song speaks to me a lot
@shaunsowter3329 He's saying it's time to be more like wolves, live like wolves, in nature, free and wild predators.
Yes. It all came from the wilderness, and it's all going back to the wilderness.
Not really. It’s literally about being a werewolf.
This whole album got me into metal music, before it I was only into rock and this album bridged the gap between the two opening a whole new world of music for me.
Metallica's Of Wolf And Man is one of my favorite songs on the album.
Solid track. Great reaction! Super fun to play on the guitar!
Happy belated birthday Lilly! Great reaction!
Wolf is one of my favorite tracks from the black album!
I like this one. It's not like we really have to change, homonins had been pack hunters, apex predators, for two million years before we started farming. That's why wolves identified with us, and some of the camp followers started working with us, becoming dogs. Some of us who are more in touch with our arcane genetics understand that we're very wolf like.
By the way, James is a hunter.
I have never noticed before, but, during that instrumental break/ solo, I heard howling sounds (made by guitar of course). I've heard this song dozens of times & never noticed!
I love the realization of finding out it's about a werewolf. Love it. Great song
happy birthday mine was last tuesday. i love of wolf and man might be my favorite on this album
Now in my head I'm hearing the bass kick in for the start of the next song. So good! Love both tracks! 🔥🔥🔥
This is in my top 5 Metallica songs.
I have always loved this song from this album, including Holier Than Thou
The Wolf is one of the symbols of the Wild. I wanna be in the Wild forever.
100k well deserved. 👏👍
Just want to say how fun it’s been to watch your Metallica journey from the beginning!
The Wolfman Cometh! Hot AF reaction!
Thank you a lot!
Used to listen to this whole album during lifting weights in the gym back in high-school 92 and 93. Great memories
The Kings. One of their most underrated songs 🤘
The next track is going to be a rollercoaster journey.... and im so ready for it 😅😅
I love seeing you listen to Metallica songs for the first time!! It takes me back 😁
Wonderful reaction!
Ayo this is my fav song! It’s just too good.
Badass tune , badass lyrics.
This was my song back when I had a story board with werewolves.
One is the song that i get what there saying and can paint a picture in my mind especially after seeing the video
Glad you finally reached to this deep track. Cause Tallica can go deep in music & in life. James rules with his writing & singing skills‼️💯
I first started listening to Metallica in the mid 80's I was about 14 years old in 1984 I'm still in to there music
Most under valued and under reacted and heard songs and my favorite.
Welcome Home Sanitarium is the one that paints a picture in my mind the most.
6:39 I get chills at "OF WOOOLLLLFFF!!"
For me it's harvester of sorrow live in Moscow 91.
I love don't tread on me
Hell yeah
This song is fun live with everyone howling like wolves. Jason use to get the crowd amped up as he howled.
Happy Birthday :D
Yes! Finally! Thank you! 🐺 (image in my head - disposable heroes)
Entire Black album is 💯great song !
They perfected Thrash (without bass!) on their previous album.
They perfected Heavy Metal on this album.
And perfected the SOUND of Metal on this album!
And Justice for All would've been OTHER WORLDLY if it had the production quality of the Black album!
I'll never forget my 1st time hearing this album. I think I was 15, and just blew my mind. My parents saved and got me a pair of Nikes cause we were poor, and I sold them to buy this tape. Not my favorite metallica, but I love it.
I feel he's singing about getting back a little primal and hunting like the Wolves. Being one with the land and taking what it offers such as the fallen Lamb
Jason’s voice stands out on the chorus
I've heard this song a thousand times but you're interpretation of the guitar solo has me rethinking shit lol
One of the Metallica songs that paints vivid imagery for me when I hear it is enter sandman
Did you notice that breakdown? There was the roar of the wolves to their instrument
"One" is probably the best Metallica song that paints an image in my head.
Equally vivid and as it is horrific.
Isolation in one's self is a fate worse than death.
Blessing me, it will make you get all hot and bothered yet maybe cry
Best song on this album, in my opinion. I knew you would like it, Lilly Jane. Now I can't wait until you get to Fuel from the Re-Load album.
For imagery in a Metallica song... "Welcome Home (Sanitarium)" really does it for me.
A lot of people say this album is "over produced" because of Bob Rock, but honestly, I think it's a banger from beginning to end... like several of their albums before it (Most notably, "And Justice For All").
Mi favorite album mi song ITS a #wherever on mi road
My theme song!
First! and love this video!
I need to think about that as I have a number of great choices in my head... But lately I've sort of rediscovered songs like "Leper Messiah", "The Frayed Ends of Sanity"... And right now the latter is my song of the month you could say. But "Disposable Heroes" is probably my all thime favorite... But if narrow it down to energy I need to give it some more thought.
And "Wolf" is so overlooked I feel...
You might be the first ever to react to this song and I think its awesome, such an underrated song off the Black Album!
Operation Provides beginning gave me the best opportunity!
Metallica, Moscow
"Dyers' eve" is one Metallica song I heard as a kid and wondered why James was cursing out his parents.
10 years later as an adult, I knew exactly how he felt and what he was talking about because of MY parents... As a teen, u don't understand or like to think that ur mom and dad were abusing & neglecting you... But as an adult, u see them for who they are and what they did to u after u move out of their house. And that's when the anger sets in... 👿
You are a beautiful creature❤
I always loved both Metallica seasonst the old thrash Met as well as the black album and afterward when they again decided to get harder again i even love load and reload and of course i love your reactions keep on going girl looking forward to your reactions on death magnetic
Enter sandman and sad but true are my 2 favorite songs whenever i feel anxious and or nervous i listen to nothing else matters it's just the beat that it has but that's just me
Hey Lilly Jane, love your metal reactions. Are you planning on reacting to the Metallica-Garage Days albums 1 and 2 in the future?🤘🏻
There weren't any "Garage Days albums 1 and 2". there was just "Garage Days Re-revisited" which was included on the second disc of the "Garage Inc." compilation. And Lilly is only focusing on the main Metallica studio albums for the time being. "Garage Days Re-Revisited" as well as "Garage Inc." are compilation albums with nothing but cover songs. You are also referring to the "Creeping Death" EP where "Am I Evil?" and "Blitzkrieg" originally from Diamond Head and another band of the same name were covered by Metallica which kind of counts as the first "Garage Days".
First album on cassette..I'm old!😅
Bleeding me is a amazing song lilly. oh and Fixxxer
One of my favourite Metallica songs, you should do one of King Nothing, also one of my favourites :)
Completely forgot this song. Probably been around 20 years since I've heard this. 🧐Damn I'm getting old
Top 4 on the album for me.
I can't wait for you to do the Death Magnetic Album! It is the most underrated Metallica album by far!
This album was really controversial when it came out in ‘91. They brought on Bob Rock as producer, who was the guy who produced glam bands like Morley Crue & Poison previously.
The album had a bunch of “radio friendly” songs like Enter Sandman, Sad but True, Wherever I may Roam etc… basically 1/2 the album was done to get songs on the radio, as it was fairly watered down compared to the previous albums.
A lot of fans revolted, saying the band had sold out & were trying to replace their original fans who got them to where they were, with more “teeny bopper” types.
They had no idea that this album would sound like fucking Napalm Death compared to their next 3 albums…
Nothing more fun than a metal song about werewolves.
Spooky times, spooky song 🎃
KILLER VIDEO!!!🤘MY FAVORITE ALBUM NOW IS 72 SEASONS!!!🤘 SHADOW'S FOLLOW!!!
As a very determined green activist and climate catastrophe forecaster, I often think about their 1988 song 'Blackened" and find really-reallt stunning how precisely they described the future - 35 years ago...
Kirk wrote the main riff in that one!
I am looking forward to your reaction to Death Magnetic...whenever that may be lol. Still have Load, Reload and St. Anger to go! Regardless, I'll be here watching.
مثل همیشه عالی
2:00 When I see any good doggie in the backseat or front seat on a street! The musical analysis is awesome and well-paced to stay with the tempo! 🥁 🎸🎤🐺 🌕! All senses clean! I think my fave just plain fun song on the Black album. Not on par theme-wise with The Thing That Should Not Be, or Creeping Death but fun in itself! Wolves appreciate it! Now gotta react to Smashing Pumpkins 🎃, The World is a Vampire, this season!
James❤️
How about doing the same album review for Megadeth Countdown to Extinction. Both of their most commercial albums. Keep up the great work
Damage Inc. or Dyers Eve
It's a wolf howl :D
Learn to listen to your instincts. Get rid of all that stop you from being human. Move. Hunt. Take risks. Seek the wolf in thyself.
Misery on this album. Though when this came out in 91, I used to play that shape shifting breakdown part to scare girls lol
So are you an october child as welll? all good wishes to you and happy birthday
Orion is amazing.
Hey @lilly_jane_reacts great videos, great job. Older former foster kid here, super happy for you and hope a wave of success comes your way. Are you familiar with Shade Tree Surgeon? Heys a motorcycle vlogger who raises money for Forgotten Angels, a couple that has a place for kids who age out of the system, but really aren’t adults yet. Really cool and if anything I would like to let you know about this place.
It’s well known James is a hunter…and this is his ode to hunting
Deep track Metallica - The Wait
😘
YO NOVA HAS A BRAND NEW SONG & VIDEO OUT !!! “GET INTO IT !!!!!!!!!!”
Of Wolf and Man is definitely between Metallica's under rated songs... I have the same view of the song as you, like you were in a movie watchinf the transformation
Next couple of songs (Of the God That Failed, My Friend of Misery) are 2 of my favorite off this album. Others would be: Sad but True, Unforgiven, Roam, and Nothing. I skip the rest.
I do like this song though, just really don't think it's got everything I enjoy about Metallica so I usually skip it. Great reaction though!
Battery live 1989 in Seattle, I guarantee you it will get you worked up to the point where you'll end up raging all in your reaction room lol
4:43 - Kirk's guitar sounds like a wolf howling......
I cant wait for the review of the next song "The god that failed"
Cool reaction. Song GD still sounds good 👍👍 after 32 years. Been fan since 84. GET BACK TO MEANING OF LIFE
