  • This video explains how to make improvised shotguns and their shells. Also explains alternative ways of acquiring the materials to make the ammo and weapons. It's a pretty strong gun overall but a bit of work to make.

      as a armchair something-or-other I personally think they're about equal in effectiveness
      Improvised shotguns can use more exotic/effective types of ammo (incends, uranium, tranqs, slugs, etc.), but have to be reloaded between each shot (something that can take varying amounts of time depending on how good the user is at inventory management under pressure).
      meanwhile, Mosins can have truckloads more ammo (10 rounds per magazine, plus 50 per each 1x2 box of ammo purchased/printed) and can be used from farther away, but fire a lot slower and are much less effective on a bullet-by-bullet basis.
      basically, I think improvised shotguns are better up close (which is where many gunfights tend to take place, although with nukies it can vary depending on how space-happy the nukies are) and in terms of immediate damage potential, but mosins CAN be better if you have enough time to be able to fire off multiple full magazines (which isn't always going to be the case, especially if the crew decides to call the shuttle or something)

    I have a feeling Cargo is going to start mass-producing shotguns when the station has an active threat, i.e. zombies or nukies. It'd be pretty effective too.

    • @cainprescott4937
      @cainprescott4937 5 месяцев назад

      The strat I see a lot on warops is for Cargo to get gifted the secfab and start ordering guns/mats while Sci works on getting a lot of weapons tech, and then once Sci's researched laser weapons of any kind Cargo uses its massive quantity of materials to start printing those as well as ammo for the ballistic weapons they've already acquired (sometimes it takes long enough for the nukies to arrive that Science is able to research advanced laser pistols/X-ray cannons, but that's not always a guarantee), which tends to work pretty well unless the nukies brought eswords/eshields/ both, in which case it tends to start causing more friendly fire than hostile hurt once the nukies turn those on.

    it feels like theres a slew of nerfs for actual crew engagement with the game, to the point that everything that can counter nukies has been nerfed to the point of non-viability. Sometimes it feels like the game trends towards making security and syndicate antagonists uncounterable by anyone.

    Maybe a video idea for you:

      Two notes for this comment:
      1. The maker of this video is quite a important person as far as this game's development is concerned
      2. The game is largely community made operating on "this feature will be made when you code it" and github pull requests

    It’s a shame Crew weapons are being nerfed, though I guess it’s best to see how it pans out. Maybe once tech shells are added, improv shotguns will have extra utility, with laser or pulse shells. Gotta say though I’ve had a lot of fun in SS13 messing around with the improv stuff, hope more gets added to the crafting menu

    • @turkturkleton4995

      the answer is simple. clearly the people who decide the nerfs are all sec mains, and want to rule over the stations with an iron, red pajama'd fist.

  • @cainprescott4937
    @cainprescott4937 5 месяцев назад +3

    On improvised weapon nerfs (making them less effective or harder to get), here's how I think they end up affecting each of the current round types as seen from an LRP perspective:
    Traitors - Improvised weapons being nerfed makes it less likely that traitors will consider using one over their non-budget alternatives in order to save TC. Not too much for me to say here, sorry.
    Revs - Improvised weapons being nerfed makes it harder for revs in any department that ISN'T Cargo to lynch their department heads or fight back against Sec, leading to lower chances of rev victories in the already rare scenario that they DO get picked as an antag. Cargo's the exception because they get to just buy weapons and can very easily open the crates they come in without the need for armory access.
    Zombies - Improvised weapons being nerfed makes it even harder for the crew to fight off the undead if Sec (or Cargo, since again, they can order weapons) fails to stop the threat, leading to more zombies, leading to more rounds where about half the lobby gets turned and then shot to death, resulting in them having to wait around in spectator with no recourse because cloning practically doesn't exist on LRP.
    Nukies - Improvised weapons being nerfed makes it harder to scramble to fight off stealthops, and makes arming the station on warops even MORE reliant on Cargo than it already tends to be (since on most recent warops rounds I've seen the crew strategy tends to involve Sec dragging the security techfab over to Cargo, because they have the easiest access to the materials needed to make use of it and can also order guns for which to print ammo), but either way this just makes it even rarer to see any outcomes other than "nukie sweep" or "nukies GET sweeped".
    Survival - Improvised weapons getting nerfed MAY make it harder to survive whatever RNG throws at the station, but this comment is long enough as it is, so I'm just going to cut things here.
    TLDR: Nerfing improvised weaponry, aside from the odd cases of people being shitters or traitors being frugal, is generally only going to make it harder for people who aren't Sec (or Cargo, depending on how much money they're making) to actually be able to deal with or defend themselves against any threats to the station.
