The negative comments here bum me. Do you folks not know Gord at all? On any given night he is gonna present a different style and mood. On this night he was feelin'' some angst. And you know what? It fucking works! He sets the tone and can bring many different things to the songs. This was a time when his wife was just getting over a battle with breast cancer, you might forgive him if he is gonna blow of some steam at the old ACC.
Well said, bud.
Those who see Gord on stage as a singer are missing half the picture. The other half is he is an improv actor, fleshing out his feelings in the moment, the stories behind the songs, song lyrics in progress, or stories or images that just fit the moment for him. That is what he is as a frontman.
Absolute
No, sorry. I would be super pissed if I saw this version of the show. Do your therapy elsewhere and perform in the way we all love.
Ive had the VERY good fortune of seeing the Hip 10 times ( I live in Michigan btw). Ive seen many different Gord's on stage, but the one Gord I NEVER saw, was 'mail it in' Gord. He's real. His emotions are real. If you want to watch Live Between Us over and over, go right ahead.
The Hip is soundtrack of my life. Its so hard to realize Gord is gone as hearing his voice reminds me so much of living . Rock on Gord , wherever you are 🤘
No long weekend in Canada is complete without these boys. Rip Gordo.
If any of you with bad comments were really and truly Tragically Hip fans you would think otherwise...so therefore you aren't true Tragically Hip fans! Keep your bad comments to yourself. I would have loved to be at this concert and enjoyed it. Gord is such a character and really gets into his work. He was having a great time up there and being classic Gord Downie. I wouldn't want it any other way!
Elizabeth Kennedy I’d give anything to be able to go back in time and be at this show.
Lighten up Liz.
I was there nothing short of fn awesome RIP Gord
@TheJdaldridge Same here. Gord Downie was a phenomenal frontman and a very modest and decent human being. There are two things I find criminal: one, that such an original and accomplished band didn't receive more attention and enjoy more popularity south of the border (Canada-US and second, that Gord was taken from us so soon at 53 years old when he still had so much left to offer us artistically. RIP Gord Downie
I'm with u on that 1 . I'm from NZ and would've sacrificed my left testicle( it's slightly smaller) to be Vibeing and rocking up front at a 'Hip concert back in the day. ❤🤙
The HIPS music reminds me of beautiful summers in Ontario Canada, fires, beers, adventures.
Yes! Ontario is one of the greatest places to live in the world! I was fortunate enough to see many Tragically Hip shows from the beginning to the end, they even played at my high school believe it or not.
I'm so glad I got to spend a few minutes with him .it was one on one .for a dude who seemed larger than life he was a genuinely nice person .and just cool.
Happy Canada day 2020. We miss you Gordie.
This was my first and only hip show and i was mesmerized, the bizarre pain, angst, humour and stream of consciousness Gord had seasoned over the show was unlike anything I’d ever seen. Fuck i miss ya Gord, I was hoping I’d get to see you a couple more times but there is no ticket I hold more value to than the ticket I bought last min to see this show
The Hip and Gord can improve your mood in a few seconds! Thank you for sharing this concert with us! Gord lives on!
RIP Gord. We will miss you.
This show is amazing! Gord is one of the best frontmen I've ever seen. He's not simply a singer...he's a delightfully weird performance artist. I love that The Hip never do the same show twice. Thank you @srb151 for posting this.
THE GREATEST SHOWMAN IN ROCK HISTORY!! R.I.P. Mr. Downie..... you genius!
I'd say Freddie Mercury takes that title by a mile.
@@samsmith2506 Who?
@@Maitland-76 , Are you serious? Really? How old are you?
You are both correct 👌
How can you not love this! Long time American Hip fan, always will be.
This is primal, rare Gord. It was epic.
I remember going to a Bob Dylan show one night, sitting next to Sass Jordan and neither one of could make out any of the songs. It sounded like one song from the beginning to the end of the show. It may not have been the best show musically but I got to sit in the presence of a poet, musician and entertainer for over two hours and I will never forget it.
For those of us who have gotten to grow with The Hip throughout their career will know just how special he is. He transcends his own music and performances. He is so much more than who he is. We are very lucky to have had him and to call him Canadian.
Dylan's late shows were described as "cubist versions of Dylan songs." You're definitely not the only person to wonder what the hell he was performing, even if you recognized some of the lyrics.
Also, late in life dylan is awesome
i still get goosebumps seeing his onstage antics , one of a kind
The HIP is one of those bands that when you go to one of their concerts, you leave feeling both elated and devastated...the kind of elation / devastation that only a vast trove of music can be the cause of....So much brilliance...so little time.
This is spot on. LOVE THIS PERFORMANCE! This is art!
A friend introduced me to The Tragically Hip with Road Apples and that was all it took.
Thanks for posting!
Don't be too quick to judge. he is perfectly on key.
Johnny Knowall he is a master. If anyone were to judge him this is the point of legendary.
I am in aww here watching this, thanks so much for sharing this, love it, I have yet to take in one of your concerts but want to so bad.
Fantastic!
Great editing...thanks for making this happen. This is a terrific show!
OMG Iove Gord thank you for sharing this concert. xoxoxo
The last Hip show I saw live. Such a good recording too ... thank you.
Thanks for sharing, great stuff!
Excellent edit....well done....we miss you Gord.
Great concert I certainly hope I can them live one last time
I only saw the Hip play live once at that same venue which was around six years previous before this one and they put on a great show like they always have. Gord no matter how he sounds this is how he is a performer and everyone that has seen this band over these past 20 plus years gets of what he does live.
Gord's foot pickup of the mike at 47:40 is simply fantastic.
James Gerwin yup that’s perfection
Armed with will and determination, and Gord too!
Everytime I pick up my guitar I always open with the tragically hip songs I love the challenge my friend was a roadie for the tragically hip I seen him on yt on the up to here tour it was amazing to see him standing in the background behind bobby with a guitar in his hand he mentored me on the tricky stuff then I realized it's too easy and too much fun.
I was at this concert. I had seen The Hip many many times, and remember feeling like Gord had an "off" night. Watching this back today, I realize that his performance just went right over my feeble brain and as usual I was watching poetry in motion. Shame on me to think otherwise.
There's a lot to appreciate, and he was certainly on top of his pantomime game. The band played the music perfectly. In fact the band always appears to play the music perfectly. There's a boundary where creative license transitions to harming the product and at times that line got crossed.
Thank you very much for this excellent "H"igh "Q"uality live-performance pro-video. The ' Hip are possibly the most under listened to and under watched musical bands / performers of modern times !
Holy shite fecking powerful, love it.
How does this only have 16k views?
4 years later: 125K+. Recognition: complete.
@@tropdommage3288 not yet room to grow.
Never seen anyone perform like Gord Downie. Best there was. Miss him.
Rip Gord its been a good ride thanx for taking us along !
5 years later & RUclips finally decides to drop this in my feed. WTF 🤔
Was at that show in the Presidents Box..... amazing memory. 3 years since their last show .... Sad day epic day.
The boys at the top of their game ... I only had a chance once to see them @ a little festival in Erie PA (1999?).
Best band ever!!!!!
This is a great soundboard of a usual (and awesome as usual) Hip show... Gord and the Guys crushing it as usual.... absolutely incredible performance.... and none of them are pushing to the max.... they are just waaay to good for their own worth... and this 'usual' / 'regular' Hip performance essentially means to a fan; the best concert ive ever been too. Cheers
Not a soundboard. My seat was in an optimal place to record both audio & video
Scott Becker it’s a nice recording then! Great performance. It’s the Hip being awesome as always. As someone who has been to and seen the Hip often... they always had a unique performance each time and always crushed it out. Great band, one of the greatest.
this show is awesome
THIS is marrow deep punk gorgeousness! THANK YOU srb151 for posting!
Likely my best found concert to date . Cant wait on viewing his last show on CBC.
Could not thumbs up that comment. 🙄
@@smwrbd My fav concert has changed many times over since then. Lol.
My absolute favourite Canadian band....of oh so very many !! 🌲🍁🍁🇨🇦🙏🇨🇦🍁🍁🌲
I was there! Last time I saw them live :(
LOVE THE UNDERWORLD REZ OPENING!!
Amazing
Damn right!!
Thank God for RUclips!!! without it we couldn't see Gordie babee - the way he was!! warts & all. if you didn't know he said the song was only half-done when it was written - it has to be performed - so here's the performance!!!
Yah! Gordie! You got this. Watch 2nd concert in Vancouver tonight on periscope. Download the app! Its flippin amazing!!!!
Good to know this is immortal ! RIP !
50 Mission Cap is just sick.
Great band !!! Back in the 80’s I didn’t quite get it….mainly the lyrics. Now in my late 50’s I missed the boat big time… so under rated………but that’s what makes them so great. In out time’s Group of Seven…….not under stood till too late……so America they’re our band.
A man, A poet, A legend of his own kind, A Fucking Icon for our Fucking Country.... WE LOVE YOU , YOU ARE MISSED, THANK YOU FOR EVERY FUCKING MOMENT YOU GAVE US.. GOOD BYE !
Fantastic concert! The band certainly knows how to drown out the hyper caffeinated crowd in today's Bridgehead coffee shop. Very grateful for that!
FUCKING LOVE GORD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It is to weep. Man, I miss Gord. Simply the finest kind.
Rob's had that strat for ever!... must be killer
I miss you Gord so much
ganz feine Volksmusik für immmer Danke
Gift shop 34:27 when you see them all playing guitar front and centre.... Wow, just wow.
Never was a band so committed to the voice of "being" as was the HIP. Gord was a master...supported by a "masterful voice"... End of story.
❤️
music is the way to go
at 01:04 . . Long Time Running , from " Road Apples "
We miss you gord
127:09 . What he says here has me hooked for life, it has me throat hooked like a northern Pike after a long follow.
You will have to punch it out to hear it. My word it is Soo worth it.
Gorde was a genius you can't get more original than that man miss you brother and new Orleans is sickening and i don't want to swim either
To all those who didn't like this concert: Sure some of these songs aren't the best version we've heard but "Long Time Running" at 1:05 is the best! Gord is sure a smooth operator...
Solid job srb, couldn't have done better myself.
Sorry Tony Never shot it.
Great ending.
True Canadian ,you know what I mean ,sadly missed !!!
Amazing how big The Hip were in Canada while the USA never embraced the band in the same way. I have heard a concise explanation as to the "continental divide". The music alone is brilliant and should have had much deeper commercial penetration in the United States.
Gordie sounds like James Brown singing the "Him Here Now NO!" Part on grace too.
Free Love xo
Love the Hip and seen them live but ..Never heard :Drip, Drip, Drip, before..whats-up? And Gordy at 01:27:40 is absolutely genius!
I totally agree it as as if he wanted to punch someone out. I kind of know about that hospital shit soooo until your there you know !,,,
Any negative comments are just trolls the hip rules!!!
50 Mission Cap!
Grace .. ‘I’m Tragically Hip… I'm a total pro. That's what I'm here for. I come from downtown. Born ready of you. Armed with skill and it’s frustration and grace, too.’
What a band, not one band like them, no refrains , just one long couplet per song.
Unique= Gord Downie. Holland loves the Hip.
It was ALWAYS cool to be a fan of the Hip overhere.
moe17moe yes
BobCaygeon , at one hour fifteen minute
Gord is a Canadian. A hard Canadian. A god. Gord is ours. He's mine. Thats it.....he belongs to Canada. Thats all
Gordo ain't dead. He lives on
the move @ 6:48 is crazy.
Yeah what's up with the screaming. must be the anger he was going through while his wife was going through breast cancer maybe?
Anyway....
I've been a huge fan since '89 and seen them in Seattle about 5-6 times. Taking my wife and 8 year old daughter when they come in Sept 2015.
I can not for the life of me understand why they can fill stadiums in Canada and can only fill halls in the US. Most underrated band in the US of all time. I don't get it. We are stupid.
Thanks for posting
+Daves Delta cause they are a good band...solid originals
Daves Delta smart comment
@@colins7771 He was high as fuck due to his brain cancer
Cliff Thomson this is how Gord was for years, he loved pushing his voice to the max
51:47 Genious
50:47
"bring out your dad!" love gord
Do you own this video? I was wondering if I could use 20 seconds of this video in a documentary film?
I was co-filmer & did the editing. The Hip allowed open taping so long as no profits are made from such recordings. I'd guess the true owners are the band.
@@srb151 That's awesome! I need the band's permission as is to appear in the film, but are you cool with me using 20 seconds of video from it? No audio, just video. I have an interview with Gord talking about creating a stage persona that I want to layer under a clip of your work
@@schichter No objections from my side
@@srb151 thank you so much! my lawyer wants me to get everyone that owns the footage to sign releases to allow me to use the content. Can I send you one? email me please - matt [at] scared goose [dot] com
who cares if it doesn’t sound the way it does on the album. he was battling so many emotions at this time with his wife going thru breast cancer and all that, so he’s obviously gonna let his emotions out at his favourite place to do it.
40:25 Ahead by a Century - try to count the number of times these haunting words meant you were a better person afterward.
Sad day.. #ingordwetrust
1:09:21 Classic Gord. Downie and Sinclair.
gordo is out of his skull and i love it
& another one @47:44
Best frontman in music ever??
Yes~!
Lol what? He’s not even the best Canadian frontman.
@@07foxmulder Ha Ha. If you can't musically run with the big dogs stay on the porch.
Larry's tunes Lol sure thing.
@@07foxmulder , The best ever overall is Freddie Mercury.. Best in Canada.. Hmm.. Hard to say.. Downie or Geddy Lee..
srb 151 sam roberts band ...hmmm
nope, my initials, and being an REM fan I chose 151 from oddfellows local 151 way back when i joined an REM forum. sorry to disappoint.
Miss Gord
strange taste indeed
