Morgan, I was cutting down a Black Oak tree about 10 years ago. It was riddled with worm holes and a few grub burrows.
While I was splitting it up for firewood I noticed that the stump wood had quite a lot of wavy grain. So! I split it into 3” thick slabs and stacked it in my shop.
I’ve been leaving it there until it spoke to me and said what it wanted to become. Today it did. It wants to be ring bowls for my granddaughters!
Thanks for giving it a voice!
    PS: yours turned out nicely!

I would say you did a wonderful job at saving that piece of Elm! I love the piece, but I really don’t care for the handle. The laser did a beautiful job on the owl, but I’m just not sure that is what I would’ve chosen. I absolutely love the woodgrain! You do such wonderful work!😊❤

Love the work! A minor thing and only because I am a huge fan of owls - would have been nice if you had a few grip-handles on opposite sides of the lid so people could see the owl unimpeded. Regardless, great craftsmanship!

I don't know, but I think you missed a golden opportunity to make the owl "perch" on an off-centered handle - and it still would have picked up the lid.
The oversized owl proboscis doesn't work for me, but the turning (as usual) is superb.

Molto bello ma, senza togliere assolutamente nulla alla realizzazione, mi è saltato alla mente che il rilievo per sollevare il coperchio poteva anche essere creato imitando il becco adunco del gufetto stesso.

The lidded bowl is really beautiful, but this is the first time ever that I've not liked a design choice of yours. Putting the knob/handle in the middle of the owl's face doesn't look right to me. Personally, I think you should've gone with a round design of some sort (like a mandala type of design maybe) and not a face, or not added a knob at all. This, however, is only my personal opinion, so you can ignore it if you want.
