- At least two French prison officers have been killed in an ambush on a prison van near Rouen in Normandy, France.
The prisoner was being taken from court to a prison and escaped after the attack.
Three other officers were seriously injured after being shot with "heavy weapons", the French justice minister Eric Dupond-Moretti has said.
Several hundred police officers and gendarmes are involved in the manhunt. French prosecutors have named the inmate as Mohamed Amra, who was previously convicted of aggravated robbery and charged with abduction leading to death.

This seems like a massive failure of french authorities.
The bloke was some sort of boss in organised crime and had tried to escape before.
That convoy should have had whatever the French equivalent of the Special Escort Group. It sure as hell shouldn't have stopped. That was asking for trouble.
I'm suprised it did stop, with uk police in similar circumstances there would be a blue light escort at front and rear with high risk or sensitive prisoners probably three or four police escort vehicles with armed police.
Of course there is a massive authority and terrorism problem in France, and as a French you can't imagine how frustrating it is to have ministers act all sad on TV for a week everytime something like that happens but actually doing nothing. This country is going dowhill very bad

As a French person with European immigrant parents (a Polish father and a Spanish mother), we were shocked by the video of the boy filming the robbers on the bus. He says "wallah, wallah" (which means he's Muslim) and seems to find the situation funny laughing while people are dying in front of him. We French definitely do not share the same world as these people.
