Otherwise anything over 5 MPH there was enough airflow to bring the IAT temps back down to the same as his OEM intake, but at a much faster rate.

I also think being enclosed is still ideal. I had a short ram intake on my SI and loved it when VTEC kicked in though.

In fact roots supercharger heat's boost air more than turbocharger, because have less efficient bladeform and it does't have even that hot exhaust manifold between it...
There's many examples of DIY cold air intake systems for VW. Keep the stock airbox, remove the internal divider, run some 3" aircraft duct from airbox out the lower left grill. block off any openings from the engine compartment to air intake system, new factory air filter. Done deal, all for less than 100 bucks and they work!

I have the APR enclosed one which I bought 2 years ago. It sounds good. I wish there was a way to improve the exist note to make it similar the audi 2.5 inline 5, but most 1.8 and 2.0 VW's with after market DP sound like ricers.
Not necessarily true my S3 has a resonator delete from factory and turbo downpipe and it sounds really good actually somewhat close to the 2.5 5 banger Believe it or not - Nowhere near a Ricer it’s nice and deep the key is don’t put a downpipe with aftermarket exhaust then it sounds like a ricer ,

The old one sucked because it didn't sound loud enough. Lol. Anyway, yes $450 for that intake when you can get the aluminum one from injen for 175, or other options around 250... It's a no brainer. The purpose is more air, so you need a tune to harvest the gains from it. Jist slapping an intake on a car without tuning it, you might lose power, you might run lean. Ridiculous. Get a tune and the $450 will be worth it.

2 guys struggling to mount the air box hahaha a little silicone grease on each grommet and it pops right into place easily especially if you don't have a extra grommet in the way. The PEX intake fits the look of the engine bay better than the "WOW" of the CF intake who really cares I sure the F don't...PLUS the PEX intake is half the price.
Meh, sounds like a old civic. Why rice up a nice MK7. I kept mine stock with a drop in and my turbo flutter sounds awesome compared to that sucking noise. Each is own I guess.

I had a open intake on a different platform loved the jet engine/ shop vac sound but prefer keeping it closed to keep the filter clean.
Open ones do get dirty fast. I have to clean mine often.
Also an open air filter sucks up engine heat.

i'm 90% sure old closed performed better because colder intake air temperatures.
Make it a 100% I tried both and 7.5 Celsius difference.

Personally I’d rather have cold air closed intake for the performance, then an open intake that will suck hot air. Performance over noise.

Just brought the ECS Luft-Technik open air intake, you get more for less of the price, the only thing I use APR for is there tunes, looks good though.

IE offers more hardware for $50 less. However, I much prefer the APR system, easy installation, and just suits the engine bay well.

On this car the OEM intake is not very restrictive, so an aftermarket one won't do anything. On other cars, 8 percent might be possible

yeah I think you just connect the secondary air breather by APR
Allows more noise from the turbo, but that is all they are good for. They do nothing for performance
