Taken on November 7th, 2016.
The "W" was my train when I lived in Astoria (1993/2006). It was the only train from Astoria prior to 9/11. The "Q" which had been on 6th Avenue was also the only train on Broadway prior to 9/11. It was extended to Forest Hills As a local. That's because the N/R (the mainstay of the Broadway lines) were canceled prior to 9/11. Long live the "W" 30th Avenue to/from City Hall. Congratulations on your comeback.
@Lighthouse in the Storm it does. It made life so much easier when before it only Never coming train or Rarely coming train. So I'm glad we got the "Q"uick and "W"elcome .
Hello! Hello! Good to be back! Good to be back! Hello!!!!
WE MISSED YOU W TRAIN!!!! :D
YoImShepard Yay! W train is back
TotalBoogeymenH2Oplus i did not miss him
I miss the 9 train
Andre Banks JR is 12 Train In Service?
TotalBoogeymenH2Oplus yep
Awww the W train said Transfer is available to the V train omg 😢😢 she needs to be updated
it said B train not v
Did you actually watch the video, if you did you would hear and see the V is still in the FIND showing up which means this program wasn't updated. Canal Street still says you can transfer the M train.
DarkEnzanArikado right lmao
DarkEnzanArikado another example instead of saying Jay St- Metrotech it says Lawrence st and also Atlantic Ave-Pacific St
Shut it.
Miss my RR train. I remember taking it home back in the 60's to Broadway in Astoria. Thanks for the newer memory.
Welcome back W train
I remember catching the W for the first time on the way back from school , keep in mind I was in elementary, so I reacted like I just saw a train that I only thought was a myth from books.
Great video it's the first I've seen an R160 with a diamond sign
Kev Rey a rarity to see a diamond sign on the trains
TheNw1218 you see one on the 7 express and 6 express
he did specify R160 and not 142/148 :P
hobo753 oh whoops didn't see that
+hobo753 What's an R148?
(W) train in 2010: finally I can enjoy some peace and quiet with the (9) and (V) trains!
*6 years later…*
MTA: The Q train will stop running to Astoria because of the Second Avenue Subway!
(W) train: oh well. The MTA needs me!
Yes Mta needs u.
This is a throwback to when the R160's were installed in service they first went on the W then headed on to the N, Q and R lines before spreading to the E,F and M lines.
@Councourse Xpress Productions oh really??
Awesome that the (W) train is back! It will be nice riding it and it will be exiting for the (Q) train to switch to Second Avenue. Nice catches!
It is so Awsome that they had this Train operating again
Victor Fernandez // Bigdestroyer yeah after 1 year
For sure yeah!
@@thoseonetrains after 6 years*
@@realAutoman im talking about from when it returned to now, making it 4, not 6.
2:04 Something satisfying about the shininess of the track and wheels!
W train is back in service! W train sign spotted at certain stations still like Herald Square and wow! First time seeing express sign on R160!
Oops, looks like the MTA needs to update their signs and the map! XD
I'm thinking the W trains came off N train R160 trains. What do you think?
BenTheMiner / MTA Railfanner As far as the "W", her depot is the Coney Island Yard, so ues, she shares both R160A, R160B, R68A, and R68 with her sister, the "N".
@@BenTheMiner The last W train b4 discontinuation was an R160B-2. The last Q train to Astoria was one of the few R160A-2s originally from Coney Island.
WAIT BRO IK U, UR A MOD/DEV FOR PTA
I'm so glad W is back in service! but I wish the V was back in service......
Awesome Gamer FACTS RIGHT?!?
Yes, I love the V. #bringbackthev
Sharon Watkins lol whoops I meant I wish they brought back the V
Phantom Plays Roblox yea I miss it...
yeah me too i really miss the redbirds , the r40 trains as well
Here are the services thats been discontinued: 9,T, H,.K, V and others.
Andy Molina the T train and 9 train are coming back soon
Brain Gomez I know the T train is coming back, but how is the 9 train.
the 9 train is in brooklyn so when it comes back its going to be in downtown brooklyn
Robert gomez when? What year? And I hope the V returns too!
idk i just that on news
It was nice meeting you today!
Everyone loves the W. And the W loves it's fans.
Take the W, not the L :)
10:20 PEEP THAT RFW 7 TRAIN
This was to prepare for 2nd Av subway opening, right? Q train will go up 2nd Av beginning Dec. 31st (crossing fingers). Finally.
1:16
what the heck was up with the diamond sign?
express
That sign is glitched out because that set has new LCD advertisement screens.
I had no idea it could display a diamond.
Thomas Kain Well the only diamond lines are the and but the MTA probably put it on the 160s just in case they would be needed... who knows may be there will be an one day
bvestationfan That makes sense. I've just never seen a diamond IND/BMT R160 train in action.
finally the W comes back
I miss the brown M, orange Q(when the D and Q ran together), the V and the 9....
he protecc
he atacc
but most importantily
he came bacc
this video reminded me that when the W line was back in service then the Q line was discontinued from going to 57 St - 7 Av and Astoria Ditmars Blvd and then it started going it 96 St - 2 Av that day.
Oh hello to the (W)illiam train line LOL. 6 years of operation and 6 years of decease but now, its back! Man, I hope on Veterans' Day, the (W) train line gets its debut as a veteran line
William Boris Law ,
William Boris Law THEY SHOULD MAKE THE DAMN THING RUN WEEKENDS
Wendy Migliorisi hell yeah. The MTA needs to make that happen
Wendy Migliorisi The N IS the weekend W.
W.L. Customs The N IS the weekend W.
And I also hope they restore all abandoned stations and reopen soon. Plus all services goes back to the line the way.they were before.
@@tylerbyrd5849 I think you also forgot the abandoned platforms at canal street
The (W) was restored for a reason, it needed to help the N in Astoria while the Q goes to 96th Street
I got to ride the first Queens bound W on my way to school today. So glad this train is back. But what about the V? And the 9?
As I recall, the 9 was dropped because towards the end, the skip-stop service it had with the 1 was less efficient than having the 1 make all stops.
As for the V, the M is doing everything the V did, except that it doesn't stop at 2 Avenue - more people transferred from the M to a train heading towards midtown Manhattan when the M was on Nassau than actually used the M to get to southern Brooklyn, so it made much more sense to fold the M into the V, but to keep the M designation. I imagine that if a Nassau to south Brooklyn connection is warranted, MTA will just extend the J/Z through Montague.
When will the z go the fate of the 9?
I think MTA still sees enough efficiency in the J/Z skip-stop pattern that the Z's not up for the block just yet. Don't hold me to that, though.
***** I will go eventually, though. I just know it will.
William R.F. 9? the 9 train sucks
I caught the first Southbound W train to Whitehall St. South Ferry yesterday morning on my way to school.
I never seen the w but now I can. Thank you DJ Hammers!!!!!!!!!
I love the sounds when they cross a Bridge. 😍
(W)elcome back to Broadway (W)! We've missed you!!
Welcome back to the decade of 2000! Excited to be in the past!
Welcome back to the subway (W)! :)
Welcome back W train I missed you for a long time.
Glad to see a familiar face again!
Have a day off Friday - going to take the D from the Bronx and pick up the W at 34th-Herald Square!
0:24 the driver of that train will be legendery
I love the subway!
The return of W
Great video as always !
I've been in the Second Avenue tunnels working on 96th Street stop, I got a video of the Q train doing testing last month coming up, MTA was sending the metal snake through as we worked 10 feet away....
We missed you, (W).
The. (W) is. A. Digital. Train. At. 86. St. And. 30. Av
Yay. Y'all. 🎉🎄🎉🎄🎉🎄🎉🎄🎉🎉🎊🎆🎊🎆🎊🎆🎊🎆🎊🎆🎉🎄🎊🎆🎊🎄🎉🎊🎆🎊🎉🎄🎄🎉🎊🎆
So happy the W is back Again
Finally, the W train comes back. But lets see how the Q will do when the Second Avenue Subway opens in December.
the front screen says express..😕
So it says that on every train. Ok
That was my naive self back then lol
Like an inaugural!! Thanx for sharing this occasion😀😀
Hahaha Lawrence Street and the V Train. You'd think they'd fixed that by now since the announcement that said that the W was coming back is at least a year old or something.
They are back and they are here to stay.
I can’t believe it’s already been 4 years since the (W) Train was born. I remember all the way back when there was only the (N), (Q) and (R).
More like reborn. This N branch began service in 2001 to replace what was then the B train during the Manhattan Bridge reconstruction. In 2002, during the Stillwell reconstruction, the W replaced the N train full time between Coney Island and Astoria. Some weekend train crews working the N now worked the W route. In 2004, near-normal N service resumed and W trains now run to Whitehall Street. In 2010, the route was folded into the N, with train crews now working both the N and Q, which replaced the W in Astoria. In 2016, service was restored.
nice video and I'm not sure if the MTA has archived pre June 2010 W train transfer announcements for R142 2, 4 &,5 trains along with R142A 4 & 6 trains
One of the best subway trains have retuned (W)
1:13 Why is that a diamond?
Nice seeing the (W) back in service, now I have to wait for the (T) train to make a appearance soon. Once the 2nd Ave Subway is fully completed.
Tommy Nunez soon? Hahahhaha
Is the T Train really coming?!
+dubreil07 Is the T Train really coming
Omar McCleary yes once they build the third phase of the second avenue line. But being that the MTA is incompetent in everything that they do, you might be 90 years old or dead by that time that phase is built lol
+dubreil07 Not funny
I hope Railfanner Tyler does videos of the W train soon. If he does, he'll be one of the famous railfanners in the world!
+Rick Anthony Awesome!
+Rick Anthony Youre welcome bro
Update yes the (W) does use all tech. But the (W), (N) is using Alstom R160's no more Siemens.
I think they currently have 16 R68s for the AM rush.
Actually, just 2 R68s are on AM rush. But I'm pretty sure there's 16 of them in total.
MTA 4, 7, L, N and W trains Studios holy crap u dead serious bruh
unlimited Gamer I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure
unlimited Gamer wassup fam
I’m my opinion, they should have ran the W full time from Coney Island to 96th St via Sea Beach Exp. and kept the Q to Astoria
W is back but R.I.P V train 2001-2010
It's back
@@birdjudey4751 The V train is not back liar.
6:17 nice announcement
Any idea why some of the trains' front and rear LED signs are displaying blank diamonds instead of a circled W?
After all these years, Welcome the (W)
In a couple months the post-hiatus W service will have existed for around the same time it was not in service.
I cant believe that it still has the announcement of the V train still at Herald Square
I Was Riding A (Q) Train Since 2013 Until 1/1/2017.
LMFAOOOO WHY SHE WALKING LIKE THAT @ 6:25
R160b’s were like made for like the W line as you can see.
Hello W Train
r160 r179 and r211 are like brother because they looks same.
AFTER 6 YEARS, THE W IS BACK!
I still couldn’t believe how they replaced the q train :( but wow this was super unexpected when I heard about the W was gone over the last 5/6 years ever since the V and W disappeared I bet some ppl were confused back then since the W was gone until it came back but damn
Exp I never seemed
This is a whitehall st bound W train, the next stop is rector st
People at my local stop where so confused they where is this a new train line and since I had my MTA hat I got asked 50 times what is this
I Love The W Train at least when I go Travel Training
this means we will see the R68 N train more often
No, me and my dad were going to coney island on weekends not on rush hours , we went on n train then i saw r68 n train in every other station
But I heard the Q and T train will stop at 125th street, where the 4,5, and 6 trains stop. I just can't wait. I also hope.they bring all discontinued services back.
What do you mean?
Omar McCleary mean what?
+Andy Molina Is the Q really going to 125 St? And is there really a T Train coming?
Omar McCleary yes probably in the future, the Q train and the T train will stop at 125 street. Just look in google. Search future mta subway map.
+Andy Molina OK. Give me the website.
Got ur directions crossed.
I'm wondering if they're considering bringing back the 9 train at all.
what about the V train
That will never happen
I took the first uptown W train from Whitehall up. It had started at Bay Parkway. Check my RFW footage out
they sould fix those annoucments at Canal St,34 St,Dekalb Ave and barclays and 36 St
hey DJ I got a question today on the W train I saw a find on the r160 w saying that at 34 st transfer is available to the B D F N Q R and V trains lol
Looks like someone forgot to remember that the M assumed the V's role, I guess.
David Ng I know lol it's pretty cool tho seeing V train sign
MiloManOfficial yup! they have been already updated
It went out with a win
And it cane back with a huge win
W is back alright!!!
yeah
The 9 train will never come back.
The 9 is still dead.
+William 4NY/ Sonic The Hedgehog I'm with M Train MTA on this one.
r32 E train! 9 train wasn't really needed because the J/Z was more populated than the 1/9 skip stop service
I’m flabbergasted rn cuz I’m my whole life there was never a w train so welcome to much w train
Bro Lawrence St, Jay St-Borough Hall & the V trains are still in 2016? I thought they all finished in 2008
Welcome back W!
The (W) only has R160s now it seems like that didn't it have R68s and R68As with R160s before they discontinued the (W)?
November 7 is my birthday!
The W is back, but its program back in 2010
Nice catch, DJ Hammers! I'm probably not going to catch one and film it until tomorrow on Tuesday.
W is now back yay
yayy the Wilma train is back
I've been out of NYC for a long time now, and I have obviously missed things. These R160s make the strangest operational tones when moving I have ever heard. Four distinct tones of constant squeal regardless of the straightness or the curvature of the track. Just bizarre.
the W train is back and better than ever , I just wished that the 9 and V train can come back from the grave and back in service
Me too, but really, they didn't really do a good job when they were around. May we also not forget the M Nassau Street line?
David Ng The Nassau M can be revived by extending the J train from Broad Street to Bay Ridge - 95th Street instead.
Nice to see the (W) back
? Haha
Dave Sorrell the peek direction service in Astoria is back!!!!
Wendy Migliorisi Not really, it's local
These temporary platforms should be kept in case of N trains running express in either direction.
thesosososososo This was for a station renovation. There is no need for them since connecting bus service would provide that alternative service.
Finally that I could ride the w train😄😄😄😄😄😄
DJ Hammers why did the 34 St Herald Sq sign inside the (W) train include the (V) train?
Because the MTA hasn't reprogrammed the cars yet. I was on an (N) train this morning with no mention of the (W) on any signs or announcements
Maxwell Apton oh thank you! Have a great day on the new trains! :)
Cause the MTA is lazy
Jetter Technology The MTA never updated the LCDs.
The Amazing Giant?............
My FAv line is back
That W At Astoria Blvd, Had Another Diamond Sign And After That, Another Diamond Sign And Again
the W Train at City Hall is an R179
