  • I just procured this brass and delrin D whistle made by piper and whistle player extraordinaire Tommy Martin in 2008. It is a remarkably light and balanced instrument, very suited to this set of reels, learned from Jack and Charlie Coen's album The Branch Line. I really like the way they set the A part of Repeal of the Union, which they learned from Jim Conroy at home in Woodford, Co. Galway. Over the years, my setting of these two has drifted a bit: at one time Navan, Co. Meath banjo player Peter Fitzgerald had the idea for an album and this was one of the tracks we selected. We went back to O'Neills Music of Ireland to smooth out our settings. My next few recordings will feature my other Tommy Martin whistles.
