Visited Toledo September 2018. I want to return and spend a few days to fully experience it. What I liked is people live among the museums, the Cathedral and other points of interest. Students from the local grade and high schools pass through the streets with tourists. El Greco's paintings are amazing. I'd like to see each at least twice on my next visit. Rick's photographers are real pros.

I visited Segovia and Salamanca each on a day trip, this June 2017. Loved both cities, especially since my Spanish roots are from the part of Castilla y Leon between the two. Both cities are definitely worth the visit and easy to navigate by walking. For Segovia, I'd recommend starting at the Aqueduct and then walking to Alcazar, checking out a lot of the historical buildings, small churches, the main cathedrals (and of course the main one at Plaza Mayor), and of course the Casa Machado, between these two main sites....For Salamanca, its a surprisingly short walk from the train station to all the historical sites. Of course not only the two main cathedrals (Old and New) and the Universidad, but just walk around checking out sites such as the Archbishop's residence, the many smaller churches but each with very unique and distinctive features, the Huerto de Calixto y Melibea, the Guerra Civil museum, and traverse the river while looping more north into the city and across back towards the bus station (or however you arrive). But definitely check out many alleyways and back streets, which are full of their own unique treasures. There are also many excellent tapas places throughout the city. Check out ones frequented by the locals, as the food will be much better, more authentic and cheaper than those around Plaza Mayor or the University area that cater to tourists.

It has his childhood home and the Church where he was baptized and christened. Then back to Madrid are several sites, especially in Barrio de las Letras. These include the building that contained the printer that first published Don Quixote. There's the Church where Cervantes willed to be buried, nearby to his final house. Elsewhere in Madrid, in a remarkable sincronicidad I came across the small building containing the writers school he attended when he first left Alcala. These are the places I personally went to associated with Cervantes but I'm sure there are others.

Hablan de Castilla, y en vez de poner música de fondo medieval ponen flamenco para que los televidentes extranjeros se enteren que eso es España. Pues es mucho más que flamenco señores, investiguen un poco y verán que la cultura musical es mucho más que flamenco.

Rick, I love your show, but Spain was a Christian Roman/Visigothic nation prior to the Muslim invasion, and it was hardly a peaceful co-existence between these people. Be-headings, sharia law, marginalization , rapes, and destruction of Christian Churches and property all in the name of Muhammad. The ruins and architecture you are espousing as proof of co-existance was left over by the Christian Reconquest. For it was the Christians, which preserved some of the architecture you're viewing. Not the other way around. This so called peaceful co-existence was a myth. I would like to invite you to read a scholarly work done on this subject matter by Dario Fernandez-Morera P.hD., "The Myth of the Andalusian Paradise."

Yes, quite true. Some humans can be quite brutal. Mesoamerica was hardly paradise among the various indigenous cultures. I'm sure you are quite aware of the atrocities the Aztecs inflicted upon other native Americans. You see, violence, rape, slavery and murder was also predominant among mesoamerican cultures long before Europeans EVER came to the new world.

"I will also add that if you're a Spaniard that condemns the moors but
makes excuses for colonization of the Americas and all the pain and
suffering it caused then you're a tremendous hypocrite."
-Ah...the layman's straw-man tactic. Wow, you got that I was defending some genocide by what I wrote? Talk about mental gymnastics, kid. I was doing no such thing. Sorry to disappoint you, I'm not Spanish. And I'm not here to pick a fight with anyone. The video above by Rick Steve, if you've not spent time viewing, is about Spain. Rick is a bit misinformed and is mouthing off JR. High school rubbish about Moorish Spain being similar to a 20th Century American-like melting pot, where everyone got along. This nonsensical viewpoint does not hold up to reality and historical facts. So, hence my first comment. Advising Rick to read-up on some history.
Your comment and tone, on the other hand was written to be provocative and you are clearly trying to elicit some response. You're trolling. I've seen it before, the internet is rife with your kind.
Why do I say that YOU are being TROLL like? Because the video AGAIN, is about Spain not Latin-America. But here you come kicking sand on Spaniard faces while at the same time trying to pat yourself in the back.
      By stating the obvious:
"I was pointing out that we as humans are fine inflicting pain on others
so long as it isn't happening to us even if we are well aware of how
      terrible it is."
-Really?? This is quite a profound statement...VERY bold of you. Maybe you can give us another profound statement, like "Those who do not learn history are doomed to repeat it." Could you virtue signal to us some more?

The rough, lush and greens cliffs, the natural sand beach, with the forest bordering, it's a wonderful mixture balance of coast and mountain landscapes. Take you a chance on Asturias or Galicia, frankly worth the pity.

Salamanca is NOT Castile but León. That is why there is an autonomous community in Spain called Castile AND León, created artificially in 1983 by joining together two previously existing regions: León and Old Castile. León is made up of the following provinces: León itself, Zamora and Salamanca (sometimes also Palencia and Valladolid were added to this region, shifting between Castile and León in different periods in the XIX century).
