wish I could have watched but I won't watch any channel that is not serious about the subject they're speaking about. Anyone whom thinks a serious adult listens to that crap in the intro section is only fooling themselves into thinking they have anything relevent to say about anything !

So the intro has some electric guitar riffs that you're not in love with. The music doesn't sound so dissimilar to some of the riffs from Nantucket Sleighride which you seem to like. Your comment comes off as really crotchety, weird, and bit cringe inducing. You seem to be a bit of a delicate flower to be so upset by 28 seconds of instrumental music that you would dismiss an entire channel over it.

Fun fact, HK will do service on these for very reasonable prices. Mine had significant frame damage and for less than $200 HK went through and replaced all springs, inspected for part wear, put in a new frame and replaced the night sights. Took less than two weeks. They have a facility in Alabama where they will do this work, but they don't advertise it. Just call their customer service number and they will get you an RMA.

I know, the Glock feels like a block, they don't change their "styling". The Glock is boring.

Still some of the absolute best ever made. Half the polymer junk they put out today isn't half as good!
If you want a polymer pistol GLOCK & HK used to be your only game. It still pretty much is since the others are cheap knockoffs safe for the Sig Sauer SP-2022 Sig PRO of the same era that is still a mighty fine pistol. It's a poor mans P-226 that shoots almost as well for less than 1/2 the price.

Perhaps, but I do not like polymer frames at all. I love my HK Mk 23's, but I do not like the polymer frames. I wish really HK would make the Mk 23 with a steel frame and no decocker. Move the safety forward and make it a tad bigger. Use the 1911 as a guide. Finally, make the frame with a dedicated pic rail. Beyond those things, it would be a perfect handgun. I put a GG&G pic rail on mine and had Tooltech Gunsight in Oxford, MI to custom install a set of tritium night sights - the only ones in the entire country to do this with Mk 23's...!! Bright green dot on the front, yellow dots on the rear. They'll give you your choice of colors..!! All tritium "dots" are surrounded by white circles.

I bought my USP 45 in 1996, and never really cared for the double action trigger pull since the grip is slightly large for my hand. I installed HK's 'Match Trigger' kit and OMG what a difference!!! The trigger pull is smoother, is reduced by more than 1 lb. in both double and single action, and the reset is shorter. It is definitely worth the $120 price for the Match Trigger kit.

The H&K USP 45 is rated for 45 super out of the box. Only recommendation is change the spring after 10,000 rounds. That puts it in the 10mm range. The HK45 is not rated to use 45 super.

HK would probably drop the USP if it weren't for the fact that they still have a lot of military contracts, foreign and domestic (Germany) for them. Though the P30 family is made here in the states now, I think it doubtful that they will gear up to produce USPs here. The price for them is likely to remain fairly high. I prefer them over HK's newer offerings, personally.

Everyone talks about glocks as the benchmark in reliability but the HK makes even glocks look unreliable.

There is a reason why special ops around the world still uses it: It's reliable and able to fire up to 45 super out of the box. In my opinion, the best handgun from the 90's. It should also have been adopted by other branches of military, such as Navy and Marine Corps. With hot loads, it can have more than twice as muzzle ennergy as a standard 9mm, so 12 rounds of these count as more than 20 9x19mm shots, meaning you have far superior stopping power.

    • @moustachio334

It's subjective, but I think the lines on the USP line are just elegant. No front serrations, I know that's the new hotness today, but the straight lines in the front of the USP just looks bold and business-like. That blockiness but with chamfer corners. And for me, personally, that back/beavertail section gives the USP that unique look that you can instantly recognize.
If HK had made the triggers better and better mag capacity (although the 12+1 mag option isn't anything to sneeze at on a fullsize .45acp)

You're correct. I've owned at least 16 different HK pistols. The synthetic frames are far stronger than a Glock's, the metal work is markedly better than practically anything else out there, and, while they have introduced fascinating designs, their bread and butter these days seem to be tried-and-true concepts. The P-7 has to be the single finest handgun ever produced, IMHO. Slide feels like its on greased rails and wants to pop the pistol out of your hand, and, with the M-8, you can almost knock someone out when you eject the tank-like magazine. I know there are many fine pistols out there, but, to trust my life to, if given a choice, there are only 2 other brands I'll trust as much as an HK, and that's Sig Sauer and CZ, due to personal experiences. I like Glocks just fine for what they are, the AK of handguns: they're cheap and they work. But, though very durable, they won't match an HK or Sig in the abuse/long-term harsh use department, I've seen first hand. That being said, they are more than strong enough for the average shooter.

I know this is an old vid but I want to add something. The USP was originally built around the 40sw. round. When they did the original testing the purposely tested the gun with a squib. The bullet was recessed approx 1 cm from the muzzle. It was then fired again to clear the squib. Other than some minor bulging in the barrel it still functioned. In fact it ran another 5k rounds with reasonable accuracy before they changed the barrel for a different round of testing. Definately a well built pistol.

Great review, as always. I have the same model, built like a tank, a great weapon. Mine was manufactured in 1999, I bought it about 10 years ago. Since it had some age on it, and it was a police trade in, I replaced all of the springs. As for the double action, on the HK Pro forum they recommended to replace the factory hammer spring (14 lbs) with one of the reduced power hammer springs that Wolff Springs offers. Either the 10 or 12lbs. If you do change the hammer spring, just try various types of ammo to make sure you don’t have any light prime strikes. But I think you can handle that. 😊. On a side note, concerning the comment below, as for this being a “dinosaur gun”, it’s still going strong!

6300rds through mine. I know I will get slack but just 2 FTFs through it. One was due to a friend LIMP WRISTING IT! One was caused by me putting a 45rd I found on the ground at an outdoor range in it. The round was weathered and dented with a mild firing pin dent on the primer. I wanted to see if it was truly a dud. Nope, it fired! But due to the dented case, it did not eject right. Other than that, it's been flawless! I got it as a Police trade in with mild holster wear. Flitz polished the feed ramp and it was good to go. Recently had a nice desert and black cerakote job done to it and it does not look 18yrs old. Slapped some sand textured grip tape and changed out the night sights. This thing will always be my nightstand gun. I own a lot of handguns but if chaos happened today or tmrw, its the one I want with me. I'd trust my life and my family's life on it.

Absolutely one of the finest, most reliable pistols ever made (although we are spoiled now days with so many great options). IMHO, the DA trigger is a bit heavy however with training it’s easy to overcome. I put an HK competition trigger package in both of my USP’s and the HK USP Expert. My pistols all have bilateral decockers and adjustable competition sights with a black front sights which are extremely accurate. Reliability wise, I would put the HK DA/ SA pistols up there with my beloved CZ’s. They are fantastic pistols that are built extremely well and are rock solid. I have one USP .45 tactical from 2004 that has 20,000 rounds thru it and I’ve only replaced the O ring 5 times with out any failures of the pistol not related to dead primers (ammo). The USP Series is probably too big to CC for most (although I have seen some that CC 10 mm dan Wesson bruins LOL....However there is the
HK 45 C which solves the issue of size if you want to carry one of the world’s most rock solid designs. I highly recommend these pistols to shooters that want something different than a standard striker fired pistol. Give the double action trigger a chance to break in and you will be pleasantly surprised at the timeless and quality of this amazing design. REMEMBER INCREDIBLE ACCURACY AND ROCK SOLID RELIABILITY NEVER EVER GO OUT OF STYLE....Doc David
