  • _*Dickson greeting*_, is an experimental film made with the Edison-Dickson-Heise experimental horizontal-feed kinetograph camera and viewer, using 3/4-inch wide film.
It was filmed on May 20, 1891, by • William Dickson & Will... , in the Photographic Building at the Edison Laboratory, West Orange, New Jersey.
It is one of the oldest surviving films in the history of cinema and the first film screened to the public audience. This occurred on May 28, 1891, when some delegates of the General Federation of Women's Clubs, visiting the West Orange laboratories, were invited by Edison himself, to view the film through the Kinetoscope (00:53):
“As they looked through this hole they saw the picture of a man. It was a most marvelous picture. It bowed and smiled and waved its hands and took off its hat with the most perfect naturalness and grace. Every motion was perfect. There was not a hitch or a jerk. No wonder Edison chuckled at the effect he produced with his Kinetograph."
from The New York Sun , 28 May 1891.
