This video was very helpfull but I would like to say that I have both windows and chromebooks and Although chromebooks do have many drawbacks, they do have the option to run windows through a virtual machine which in most cases is very reliable for someone who has a budget and needs a windows pc. Using the virtual machine one a chromebook will run most applications just about the same as a windows laptop, although I would like to add that the performance of the virtual maching will be limited the the chromebooks hardware. I would also like to add that I am typing this on a chromebook and have no trouble sending long emails or writing essays. I have a mid range chromebook though costing around five hundred dollars and my chromebook is bigger than average chromebooks. I would personally recommend to anyone who asks me to get a mid range chromebook if you intend on using it for education. I have found my chromebook suitable for any of my needs. I would like to add the fact that on my specific chromebook, I only have one usb connection, SD card slot, and audio jack. Most mid range chromebook chargers use usb-c connections and most will have one on either side of the chromebook, which I have found very helpfull if I am sitting in an awkward spot from the charging connection. I know this comment was long and only about chromebooks but I would like you to know that my comment is only here for advice and that you can pick which ever device you find suitable. Hey, as an OWNER of BOTH a HP Chromebook & HP Stream(Windows 10) laptop, I think this video was VERY INFORMATIVE when COMPARING the DIFFERENCES between those DIFFERENT computer softwares. When I first bought my HP Chromebook, I felt LOST because I was so ACCUSTOMED to using Windows 10 laptops. I quickly REALIZED that Chromebooks just can't do as much as Windows 10 laptops can. For example, I couldn't even use my external optical drive with my Chromebook, which drove me CRAZY! In order to utilize my external optical drive, I had to buy a Windows 10 laptop, which my HP Stream is. Now, my HP Stream(Windows 10) laptop is my PRIMARY laptop while my HP Chromebook is my SECONDARY laptop. Difference between Windows and Chromebook: That on a Chromebook, you can't install or run anything that's not already there that came with the laptop. Chromebook starts up and shuts down in less than one second.
Chromebooks are largely intended for education that's why. If you're a middle schooler or highschooler all you need is a chromebook unless your school requires a lot of windows programs for some reason. For college, it depends if the major requires a lot of windows programs or not. For work the same reason is the same as in college like does your work require a lot of windows programs? @@slyspy9819 I’m assuming you have windows 10. You have 3 options: 1. Fix your windows image disk by following the directions on WindowsCentral from their article “How to use DISM command tool to repair Windows 10 image” (I’d link you but RUclips loves to hide most of my comments when I leave links) so just Google the article. Windows OS files get corrupted over time and they need to be periodically replaced. 2. Install Linux. (I’d go with this option since it seems you pretty much you just use your computer for internet use). The operating system is lightweight compared to even an optimally functioning windows OS, so you’d get more performance as browsers take up a lot of processor use as well as trying to maintain the heavy Windows OS at the same time. When I tried Linux, it was faster than when I got my Windows computer brand new. Remember to record your windows service key somewhere in case you ever need to switch back. Also remember to first create a Windows 10 USB boot repair disk so that you can easily reinstall windows if you want to go back. Instructions are on windows website. You need a USB stick with a least 8 GB capacity (you won’t be able to use it for file storage afterwards). If you give me your pc specs (ram, hard drive space, and cpu type and speed) I can recommend a Linux OS that’s easy for Windows users to adapt to. (Linux Mint is good if you have 60 GB hard drive, 4 GB ram, and 2.something GHz CPU speed.) Installing Linux has become very easy for non-programmers in recent years. You just need an empty USB thumb drive, download a Linux OS image file of your choice, and run a free program called UnetBootin to make your USB drive capable of installing Linux. 3. You have some proprietary software like photoshop that you must absolutely use windows for, but you like the idea of a very faster web experience. Then dual booting is for you if your hard drive is large enough to support two operating systems (120 GB would be fine - allocate 80 GB to Windows and 40 GB to Linux). Follow step1 to fix your windows OS . Then when you go to install Linux, choose “install alongside Windows” and it will ask you how much space to allocate. Boot up Windows when you need your proprietary software and boot up Linux when you just want to entertain yourself. 4. You love the idea of #3 but you don’t have enough hard drive space. Buy an external hard drive, and when your Linux USB installer asks you where you want to install, tell it to install to the external hard drive. You’re going to have to have to interrupt your computer during startup every time to select “boot from USB” or else it will default to windows. Here are the common keys people press to interrupt boot up: F2, F8, F10, F11, F12. You’re going to have to Google which key it is for your computer.
