Good review. I wish more sub reviewers would comment on both the speaker level and line level capabilities of the REL subs. I think the Classic series is for those who want the style and for music. it is a big miss that the line level is disappointing. I would love to see a review of the HT series in kind of a reverse review of this one. The HT is meant for home cinema but I have heard they do well with music too. Thanks for the video!
I wouldn’t have used this sub like this . A TX7 or TX9 would have been better . The HT series is their home theatre sub . The classic 99 , 98 are really just for music . I have two 99’ with my Polk R700’s . I’ve got a very warm sound as the result of the combination powered by Mc’s . I use this just for music . I have an Anthem AVR with Focal Chora surround speakers paired with two TX9’s for movies and music . They aren’t like RELs Ht or , SVS ported subs as they are more musical . Ported would be a much better pairing for movies , but I do movies and music and I don’t like chuffing from subs so I only use sealed subs which just give you less boominess for explosions and so forth . I find some subs not to be as controlled as the REL’s . I’m thinking maybe you are looking at the wrong device for what you need . I have a SVS in the closet . It’s great for movies but I don’t like the chuffing and I don’t feel the bass is as controlled for music . There are two kinds of people they look at for bass . One wants a lot of bass and with that bass you know exactly what where that sub is . The second wants the filler , just that little extra around the sound that your speaker produces but it doesn’t draw your eye to the sub . The sub just blends or fills in not like the car with the trunk shaking which is a little bit more like the first person wants .
I know bob at United states of analog likes this sub, and im sure it sounds fine, but other than the looks, seems like the build and specs are underwhelming. If you love the looks ZU audio has a very similar looking sub and a much beefier basket / magnet. anyway look forward to the full review....even HSU has a nice sealed 15' sub w/ rosewood
Was just looking at some info . This sub is really for music . I definitely wouldn’t use it for Home Theater. The SVS you mention would be better or a REL HT , a TX9 would do music better it could do home theater but not like the other two .
@@scott-richardson some subs are different . Some subs are sloppy . Some are more musical , & some are a little bit of an all rounder music & AVR . What the Classics are is really more geared for music You can use it for anything you want if you like it or not . Sound is sound , but you can be more specific for music or AVR . Watching the video it didn’t sound like they were happy with the volume of the bass I think they were referencing movies or AVR usage but don’t remember exactly . REL makes a HT that is similar to the SVS I heard people mention . Both are better for home theatre more movie biased over music . I wouldn’t recommend one over the other as they aren’t my thing . Both my systems are REL TX9 , Classic 99 . The 99 I only use for music the TX9 are used on a AVR for both music and movies but more biased use toward movies . They are set to be more subtle . Explosions will never be on either of these subs like the SVS or REL HT or other more home theater biased sub . When listening to the Czechoslovakian symphony , or Diana Krall or Nirvana I wouldn’t prefer the bassier HT or SVS it’s to boomy and sloppy . What you have is one of my favorite Subs at any price . It brings warmth to any system . The TX series brings speed . To is a. Wry fast sub . Customer support at REL may be Able to answer questions for you I have found them very helpful over the years . I was just getting from the video whoever was doing it didn’t sound completely happy with what they had . Hope this helps 👍
I am aware that people say these subs are more for music but a well designed sub should have no problem doing both. A sloppy or slow sub will for sure sound bad for music but will also sound bad for movies too. My first impressions in the video I was only talking about the sound of it for music, at that point I had not used it for home theater yet.
@@AV-Obsessed ok wasn’t sure how much time you spent with it . On subs though there is no platinum winner that does all the best . I can’t see your speakers I don’t know if they are warm and sound slow like warm speakers can do which this sub would expand on or sharp fast detailed which would kinda warm up a crisp speaker . My polka r warm my Focals are crisp detailed . The Polks I love with the classic 99 . The TX9 goes very well with Focals . But I’m thinking of buying a home theatre specific sub for movies as I can simply unplug my TX9s and plug in a HT specific unit .
I've owned both svs and rel and they both sound really good svs has higher spl and a heavy tone and tel has lower spl with a balanced tone could set it up perfectly in 5 minutes with svs it takes a few days to get it just right love both companies

What does that mean? Sound is sound. 39hz in music is 39hz in home theatre! Can you explain the difference?

Stamped steel basket. Small magnet. Yep, sounds like a rel. Svs smokes rel
