    The fact that he calls it a "simple little breakup song" after giving us a full dissertation on the influence of dantes 9th circles is so funny

    This guy just encapsulated a biblically volumed idea in a song he wrote in an airbnb and called it minimalistic.

    I've been a fan of his work for years, and as a songwritter myself (kind of, at least), what I admire the most is how humble his writing is. You see, there are loads and loads of information, analogies, references to classical literature, but it never feels or sounds overwhelming or forced down what so ever. It goes into the song in a very natural way. This guy is magic.

    for me, i connect to it mostly from the first line.. "you know the distance never made a difference to me" is my absolute favourite. and i relate to it because a lot of my closest friends r far away (long distance/online friends) so whenever i hear that i always think of them. i like the whole song but only really connect to that first part.

    • @joel1110
      @joel1110 4 месяца назад +1

      Me too. It really hits me bc I had a long distance relationship that turned sour bc of differing needs and that led to them betraying my trust and ignoring me when I still had so much love for them. I had to choose to leave them after what happened and it hurt me so hard even though my trust was broken so many times :/

      Right ? I love how it's always dark macabre stuff with him but he makes it funny...corpses rotting in a field, a butcherbird impaling its prey on thorns, the beast slouching towards Bethleem to be born, and now Belzebub chewing on Judas

    This song means so much to me, not because of a romantic break up but because I was let down for the last time by the person I trusted most right when he released the album version. The line about the heart in the teeth feels way too real to me. I love how he took that twisted image and made a sad song out of it. He really is a genius storyteller!

    as someone who grew up stunted in emotional growth, my first relationship so far has been so relatable to unknown, but not because my girlfriend is letting me down, because I let her down because of my lack of emotion. She's done such a great job of helping me grow emotionally but unknown portrays so well what it feels like to be hurt because apart of you isnt understandable to people

      @@neildobbs7278 I completely get you no need to apologize either, I liked reading what you had to say. I felt the same after watching, all the themes that inspired the album are so nuanced and thought-provoking. People are almost terrified of commenting on religion through art because of the sensitivity and backlash you mentioned. It takes a real artist to be able to do it in a way that's comforting and relatable as well as real and painfully scathing. it makes every listen resonate all the more. It's so raw and real and that's what makes it so good. He makes me feel seen in a way that other artists just can't.

    I love this song so much!!! I have never suffered a huge breakup before, but I know what it is like, and feel as though those losses were my own by the people in my life who lost those they loved in relationships and from life. It is devastating. I often connect to it in feeling those moments and love of those who are gone from me, ex-friends from betrayal, and those I loved that are gone from this world, my relationship with my toxic and formerly abusive but still gaslighting dad. I loved the idea of who he was meant to be, rather than the man he is. Yet, I still hold hope and love in my being despite all unkindness and remain a hopeless romantic to the future and the people I have yet to meet and love. The beginning of the song reminds me of others and living poetry, but also me walking out into a world where past and future mix. I feel each moment deeply and feel like I can fly at the song's climax. Absolutely breathtaking.

    Minimalistically writing poetry in song form about Dante’s inferno, telling a story through a love story, while making the song sound good. Yeah ok, what happens when he tries 100%? Will he start a black hole? Is this man real?
