I went on an interview where the woman asked me if I had kids and was married. I got up and left.

I went to an interview whereby I was cut off, was never given the opportunity to even answer the questions that were thrown at me and they went on to talk negatively about previous employees. They still wanted me to come back and join them. But in my mind I knew that I would be walking into this toxic work environment that I’m trying to get away from right now

Ivie, it sounds like you made an important observation of what the work environment would look like not only for yourself but the company as a whole. Kudos to you for recognizing this right away! Thank you for watching Career Success.

If your interview is rude to you, do not be afraid to return that disrespect and walk out on them. I would also recommend finding out their boss's contact information and let them know about the incident. I once dealt with a rude interviewer and I did just that and I actually ended up having a ten minute conversation with his boss, who also happens to own the business. Within a couple of months the interviewer was no longer at the company. Be sure to stay up to date where the jerk is working because you do not want to run the risk applying where he/she is at.
Another tip I'd add is if you are interviewing in person, take note of the physical environment. What kind of cars are there? Are most of them clunkers and the nice ones are at management's reserved parking spots? Is the lawn well kept? Are the bathrooms clean? See if there's a cleaning log on the door. A dirty bathroom gets am immediate NOPE from me; I'll just no show the interview.

My almost future boss did not show up to my interview for almost 1.5 hours after my interview started. She wasn't even at work. I was done. She walked in, took my resume and threw it on the table. I was done. I said thank you and left. HR was embarrassed and tried to get me to come back.

Jenn could you say how would you find & fit in a role where our uniqueness or skills are more important than the on paper experience in terms of our promotion within the company ? Slow & steady wins the race but are there any major factors or opportunities in todays uneven career ladder which most people are overlooking..

Mohib-Thank you for the great question and watching Career Success. Intangible qualities such as being a team player, asking to take on a special project or demonstrating your passion by going above and beyond in a role are things I would focus on besides the skill sets on your resume. These are qualities that leaders seek when promoting internal staff members. Go get that promotion!
