ABOUT JenniferTardy.com:

What is an underrepresented population?
An underrepresented group describes a subset of a population that holds a smaller percentage within a significant subgroup than the subset holds in the general population.
Here is a great example. If Amazon employs a smaller percentage of African Americans at its company than is representative in the general population, then African Americans are considered an underrepresented population.

Have you ever interviewed with someone who was rude, late, extremely disorganized, or dismissive? Tell us about your interview experience?
Career Success
Experience this on Friday..#2, #3,#4 both the owner and hiring manager were 15 minutes late to the interview but somewhat apologetic about it. First questions off the bat.. was my martial status. Owners asked me 3x on what my status was. Finally I says it something you need to know. He was ok. A few questions later asked if I had any kids and how many? Now I was starting feel uncomfortable. Now the owner did explained why he asked those questions b/c he wants to a family friendly work environment and he likes to get personal with all his employees. It makes sense but still very odd. Also they didn't describe much of the position.. schedule and potential salary. They didn't even ask me what salary I looking for. They did offer the position to me and I was still on the fence and asked to think it over the weekend. After weight out the pros/cons .. and think about my own experiences of a bad vibes of a work environment. I declined the job offer on Monday. After watching your video.. I know I made the right decison.. One advice.. go with you gut.. if it does feel right or sounds too good to be true along with what video mention. Walk away. Don't take a job and later regard leaving the old one. Because you discover the true. Grass is not always greener on the other side.
Carmona, it sounds like there were too many "red flags" during that interview process. I'm glad you decided to follow your instinct and that this video was a confirmation. You used the interview process for what it was supposed to be--to help you to also get to know the company. I commend you for that. Are you still in job search?
Career Success .. Yes, I am still job search for both part time ( in case I need to stay at my current job longer than plan) and full time job. I had an interview today. Well actually two interviews this week.. 1 part time and full time.
Part time job is retail for holidays. However the full time job is my 1st interview since the ugly uncomfortable interview I had a few weeks ago. Omg! Big difference in structure and professionalism. Interviewer was on time. Our conversations just flow easily. No red flags of any kind. I really felt I actually got this job. But I do have one question.. regarding hair styles. I am natural. Been natural for over a year now. Last interview I did wear a wig to make myself comfortable. However for my recent interview I wore my natural hair. It was clean and neat. But I did felt slight uncomfortable because I wasn't sure on the company stands on hair. In my mental logic .. I felt social and culture has change to allow natural hair styles on African Americans. I was trying to portray true myself because I know there will be days I will switch between a wig, scarf, and my natural hair. Any piece of advice? Have you done a video on this topic? If so, share me the link. Thanks
Yes the most recent one was extremely horrid. I was asked by HR to bring in all of my certifications to the interview for the site supervisor to review. When the site supervisor took a look at my certs her eyes nearly fell out of her head along with her co-interviewer who did not even work for the company I was interviewing for. The site supervisor had a disgusted facial gesture while looking through my certs. I knew I was not going to get the job at that moment. I always look people in the eye because I want to see those facial reactions and give full attention too. The questions she started to ask were not imperative to the job. I ended up redirecting the conversation several times or repeating answer I had already given them. Very weird interview. When I go to an interview I will take the opportunity to ask questions about the the company, what do you like about working here, can you tell me more about the day to day duties, etc. I thought the two ladies were shocked that not only did I have the nerve to ask questions, I had to sit through fake politeness from them. I did not get the job, and I did not want the job working for those two or that particular company. The one prior to that was an extremely unorganized company with the "lets get as many people in for the first interview and hire them all on the spot!" I declined the job because of the unprofessional way they ran it. New hires and potential employees are not animals to be rounded up and sent to the slaughter. They were desperate to fill the slots with warm bodies, and I was happy walking away from that hot mess!
@@rkr5rkr599 I had two women sitting at the reception look me up and down and say "Is SHE here for the job?" Mind you I have a Masters Degree in Education and years of experience with children of various ages. They were acting like I was an alien, rather than a well dressed lady ready to work. That was another job constantly filled, vacated, and advertised again.
I'd like to add a red flag that I've noticed with my own manager while conducting interviews... They do not read your resume at all ( You'll be able to tell from the questions that they as you). From my experience, this kind of manager wants to hire based on personality and will not care about the hard work that you do. They'll mostly care that you're their buddy or not, but will throw you under the bus as soon as something goes wrong. I've seen this pattern many times.
spot on
I'm proud of you for seeing your own red flags! That is important.
I was asked what my previous salary was. It is deemed illegal in my state. The interviewers then argued among each other if it was legal or not. Really awkward.
Wow
This is hilarious.
It means that they wanted to get you on the cheap
just lie and say the figure you want
Literally all 5 signs were present during my interview for Wendy's. The general manager was late to the interview, uninterested, asked me where I live and hired me on the spot.
Lol!!
but did you take the job
I had a job where the only question was "if you have kids, do you have reliable childcare?" Yes. You're hired. Worst job I ever had lmfao.
I was offered a job under an hour and received the offer the same day. One week after accepting the offer, the hiring manager decided not to hire me because of a lame excuse "Actually, we do not have this role available and we are not ready to hire."
It was one of the most unprofessional experience ever! Period! They even called my current employer to terminate my work permit so it can be transferred. I ended up losing both jobs.
Aaron, I'm sorry to hear this. It is an absolutely unfortunate circumstance to experience. I appreciate you for sharing it and let me know if I can support you.
Wow!
I would say the last item is illegal.
2/5 signs happened on my last interview. I was asked my age and if I had children. Also the person seemed overly enthusiastic. This vid totally validated my guy instinct. Thank you!
Good for you for recognizing those red flags! Your gut is usual right in situations like this!
Yes! This is a great video! I’d also add if the interviewer tells you they will let you know by the next day and you don’t hear from them for two weeks saying you got the job, that is a red flag! Don’t fall for it. They offered the job to someone else and they already walked out.
Also, a huge red flag that I’ve learned is if they introduce you to other employees in the company during the interview and you can pick up on tension between two or more of them (one trying to dominate everyone) run away! Do not take that job!
Thank you! I'm happy you found this information useful. I'd love to have you subscribe to our channel.
I would say the time it takes to hear back can be due to several factors, many of which I highlighted in this video - ruclips.net/video/R8B_w15-DWY/видео.html & this one - ruclips.net/video/fzd2OSPptnk/видео.html
I will agree that it is important to pay attention to the atmosphere and how you feel during an interview (and/or tour) because the interview is just as much for you as it is for an employer.
Most companies deserve to be sued
One thought about the “eager hirer” red flag, especially for highly variable high-skill positions for young people, they can be straight up SCAMS.
I look at lack of diversity. That's a red flag. One of my good friends said all the men kept getting promoted at her job. That's not coincidental.
A lack of diversity is another red flag, I agree. We recently put out a podcast on how to create workplace inclusion: ruclips.net/video/hIlHCAlnyx4/видео.html
Danaé Lauren Tolbert yes! Lack of diversity is a big red flag! Another is when the ratio of men to women is very disproportionate. That’s tells you they don’t promote women.
I look at that too, especially from company photos on the web... funny though, my interview on the phone, i asked about the culture there, the mgr did say the office was pretty "diverse", which made me feel better. I'm thinking (hoping) the photos were from a long time ago and they changed the way they did things. I know mgmt changed.
Lol I was one of 3 women in office today. Went to the bathroom....no toilet seat!!!!! Respect us! I lasted 4 hours
Diversity is such a non factor for me. One of the best jobs I ever had was an all male work place.
I was interviewed by the “ Two headed Snake.” She was so sweet during the interview.Once I came on board her nasty side was on display. Also, her office was a pig sty.
Whoa. That's no good. Did you see any of the signs (outside of the disorganization) during the interview?
Been there, done that!! The lady definitely turned out to be Jekyl and Hyde, especially if we had clients. It was nervewracking to come in & wonder which front she would put on. It seems my best bosses have not been too warm & friendly in the interviews, & in fact were quite intimidating, but once I took the jobs they were fantastic to work for. Finding people like that is getting more rare.
@@AJ_SouthernGal Very true.
Just had a schedule interview that didn't happen because of the hiring manager wasn't punctual.
Thank you for sharing!
Did an interview yesterday with the single most unprofessional jerk I have ever met. After he asked me if I had any questions, I asked him how his previous experiences helped him in his current role. His response? It's your interview, not mine.
That's only the tip of the iceberg. He was so bad, I literally emailed his boss and detailed every red flag he displayed.
David, thank you for leaving a comment. That was extremely unprofessional of him and unfortunate. Some managers use interviews as an ego trip. Fortunately, you were able to catch the signs in advance. Kudos to you!
Actually youre interviewing them too!
Great video. Informative. Sadly, I took a position with an office after the employer called and asked me, repeatedly if I might be interested in considering them for employment. I was not qualified for the position because my work history was in financial institutions, but she reassured me that I would be a great fit. I agreed to an interview, but I should have seen the red flags. She didn't even ask me about my qualifications and how that could work in the medical environment. She didn't go into what the job entailed and the training that would occur. She walked me through her office and where I would be stationed and I remember thinking how dirty and unorganized it was. Boxes and paperwork everywhere. Dust everywhere. Bottom line, I should of seen that we are our work space. When patients would ask her questions, she seemed dismissive and disinterested. That is why I only lasted 4 days and left. I wish I would of watched this video prior to my interview.
After the interviewer asked me if I have questions and I asked him about his background (which I found on the company website's leadership page), the interviewer tell me "it's your interview not mine" with a little smirk on his face.
Smart.
Yes....Was interviewed by a company owner who happened to see my veteran license plates on my vehicle. He interrogated me about my mental state and if I had PTSD. I declined any further conversation with the nut.
I'm sorry you experienced that.
Huge red flag: If they choose not to pay you what you're worth! I interviewed for a job which was skilled but they stated flat out during the interview was "entry level", and they would have to start me at minimum wage - oh but it would get better after 5 years or so. I found out the hard way that's a huge sign that they couldn't give two shits about you or anyone there. "We're a family here" is another creepy sign of unhealthy environments.
Thanks for visiting the Career Channel and for sharing your additional information about experiences with red flags. The best to you with your continued job search.
You're so friendly and helpful. Thanks for this!
You are so welcome!
I just want to say that I love your videos and I find them super helpful and concise!
I was asked 3 times if I had a boyfriend
There is no business reason for an employer to need this information. I hope you took this as a red flag!
lol oh shit
I was asked this by a female boss before. But she asked because she wanted me to work longer hours
Lol! Wtfreak was it a hooker interview or something?
Wow 😳
I interviewed at a daycare several years ago. It was 3 of us interviewing at the same time. The interviewer showed up 15 minutes late and didn't apologize. She asked us questions for about an hour that weren't really related to the job, then had us write an example of a lesson plan, although one person was interviewing to be a cook, and I was there to be an assistant. Then after an hour, the owner and her husband showed up (btw, the interviewer was the owners mother). The owner went on and on about how wonderful working there was. She also had this weird obsession with cleaning with bleach. I asked during the interview if I would be expected to be in a classroom by myself since legally I couldn't, and the owners husband said "why are you so worried about that?" They hired all three of us on the spot. All three of us quit in under a year and a half. It was THE WORST job I ever had. That place had an extremely high turnover rate. At least 5 people quit within my first year there.
Loved how you broke this down you have a new follower thank you
Welcome! I'm happy to have you
Wow! Thank you for your wonderful tips ma’am
Thank you! I appreciate you. Be sure to subscribe to our channel!
Superb presentation! Thank you very much.
OH MY! Wish I knew all of this when I was hied for my current job as every single red flag was present. But lessons are learned and I guess I now have the knowledge to not repeat that mistake. Thanks for the video. Great content.
Thank you for being here & watching!
What's the average tenure?
Why this current position is still vacant. Got it
My boss always blame me for things I didn't do and always gossip about me to the only other member of the team. I was treated extremely bad when I first started working in the office. I've been looking for a new job, and am ready to start working for a new company that treats its employees well.
Good for you for recognizing your worth! Have you started applying to jobs yet?
Hey girl! i love your channel concept. its great! keep up the great work! i will def be recommending your channel to anyone who is job hunting. Good luck!
Heeey! Thank you for the love. I just visited your channel as well. Keep glowing!
Thanks!
Oh my gosh, #4 and #5 was VERY true. I did answer a few questions though about my qualifications, but it was a few. Not a lot. The rest wasn't the case
I've had bad interviews where it felt like I was being judged and nitpicked my resume.
Thanks for stopping by the Career Success Channel. I hope that your found the video insightful.
That has happened to me! I hate that!
God Love You! Great video. Please keep them coming.
Did you cover group interviews? I've heard a career coach from get employed actually advise against them! For a few reasons-not only are they stressful, demeaning cattle calls, they usually don't result in getting hired and violate privacy(any interview skills/knowledge you have is displayed for competitors) and are a sign the company isn't even aware of what they're looking for. Just received an invite for one of these and declined happily.
If its a panel interview its ok i think. But if its a group interview its bad and major waste of time for an applicant
Turned down a job that was offered to me last week. They really wanted me, but said that they have a hard time filling and maintaining employees for this position and was told that “a timid person is not right for this job...” major red flags. No thanks.
Haha @ "no thanks" - Kudos to you, Christopher, for being able to recognize that a company wasn't a good fit for you. You can't imagine how many people would take the job just because it was offered (ignoring the red flags along the way). Good luck in your job search. I know you will make a good decision for you. Take care. (Keep me posted!)
Well, i was asked yesterday how i displayed excellent customer service skills....My answer drained their colour away, i knew i blew it then lol
Yes, are you planning on having children? I smiled because I'm over fifty and I don't look my age.😀
None of heir business! Lol Oh Lord.
None of anyone's Business.
The very first question my interviewer asked me recently was "Are you married?" which was kind of odd considering it was the first thing they wanted to know...
I agree!
Hahahahahahaha, this afternoon in my country happened to me, but with have I got children? 🤭🤭🤭🤭🤭
What a bad impression from her, her image does not represent their real her
I was watching a lot of your videos and was wondering if you could do a video on the most professional ways to tell a company your not interested in the job while still remaining vague after a horrible interviewer introduction, but they still desire to extend you a job with their company.
Hi there and thank you for leaving a comment. I sure can add this topic to my list and I will do my best to notify you once I've published this video. You aren't the first person who has asked me for a video of this type. Have a great day!
Okay I had a strange interview about 5 years ago when the owner would ask me about why I needed my employee tax paperwork so bad. I was like I need to file taxes and he got angry with me. I waited for 2 weeks and he still was procrastinating so I finally told him I quit.
I am proud of you for seeing this as a sign of a bad work environment.
@@CareerSuccess thank you so much! Yup I recognized it and bounced.
@@CareerSuccess My boss won't give me my tax paperwork. How should I proceed in order to get them??
@@nothingheard As a rule of thumb, NothingHeard, whenever you are experiencing challenges with your manager, try either going to your manager's boss or Human Resources.
I wish I listened to the 'hire you on the spot', it turned out to be a nightmare.
me too
Ouch.. Thank you for sharing. I'm hoping things have improved for you!
One thousand percent on all of this!! I admit that, despite my better judgment, I reluctantly accepted an offer from what I saw to be a toxic company only because I needed income in the immediate. Luckily I kept looking & found an employer with a MUCH healthier environment & Leadership with a moral compass. Needless to say, I ran from that place so fast I swear I left a cartoon me-shaped hole in the wall!
Keep betting on yourself!
"Hang on, can we start over?"
One employer asked me this question which I found peculiar...it goes something like “has any manager given you a bad feedback that was not constructive, where you found personal but not true, how would you respond or how would you react to it?” Even though I explained a few times, it never happened in my past since all my managers were professional and gave great feedback. She wasn’t happy, she kept asking “like never? Anything you recall?” In the end I said “well maybe they did but I either never noticed or they said it tactfully.”
I was recently interviewed my two men, the first one was a manager of a month which was very friendly and got me the second interview right after the first with his boss. However, the second boss was pretty friendly at first, then seemed kind of unenthusiastic. The first interview was more of a conversation, but the second was just me answering behavorial questions and him writing it down. I did get a tour in the 2nd and more information about what I would do working there, but I have a feeling the boss did not like me :(
Hi Maddy. Thank you for leaving a comment. Do not stress. Sometimes, interviewers are just not as engaged during the interview process. I had an interview once with a VP who looked like he hated me. Later...(after I got the job)...I learned that this was just his NORMAL look. He looked like he hated everyone, lol. So, although you want to pay attention to your gut, do not let it unnerve you. Let's wait an see what happens. Keep me posted and good luck!
So, did you get the job?
What about a micromanaging boss or team lead??
Wow! Just had an interview this week for a job. Got hired on the spot along with two others. Now, I am thinking hard about this especially since it was posted on Craigslist.
I'm glad this was helpful!
I was asked personal questions about my hobbies music preference etc. the day after I got offered the job and they were very pushy with me starting so I couldn't give my job a 2 week notice. I got fired 2 days later cause i couldn't catch on quick enough
I'm sorry to hear this, Antonio. The job for you is out there.
@@CareerSuccess how do ik what it is
These signs are 100% on the nose!
I just had #5 happened to me. I just literally applied today and they called me 2 hours before and ask me if I could be at their open interview. They completely overlooked the fact that I have an advance degree. Another thing I noticed was they didn't give a detailed job description and rather gave an average salary to make the job look more appealing to the average job seeker. They never awnsered my email questions and my rule of thumb is if I see 3-4 negative reviews on the company they're not good.
It's so important that we understand our own limits. I'm proud of you for noticing this company may not be the right fit for you!
LOL arriving 15 minutes early gurlll what I see when I am interviewing people
Thank you for sharing!
I was once asked if I would be willing to bark like a dog. It was a telemarketing job and they wanted to know how badly I want the position. I told them I will not bark like a dog and got a bit irrate with them. I left that office mid-interview and ignored their calls.
Ouch. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for this video! I was once asked if my dad was rich?
Glad I could help! That is a unique question for sure about the financial status of your father. Thank you for visiting the Career Success Channel.
Sadly so many jobs meet these red flag signs. I had got tricked into hire on the spot job because I was getting laid off due to relocation but thought raise and way less commute was worth it. Turn out nightmare was looking for new job during Christmas week. Honestly after my new job done with looking. Ready to work for myself.
I'm sorry you had that experience. Thank you for sharing & wishing you the best of luck.
"Do you have children?"..
Been asked that, then told "We are looking for someone with no children or outside obligations...things that might take away from availability for the position"....um, this was for a receptionist position for a medical group years ago...translation: We are looking for someone who has NO life or someone who will drop everything in their life to be available to cover 2 or three positions here in our practice for the price of one...expect to never get out of here before 7:00 or 9:00 pm and expect to be pulled off tasks to cover other tasks we put on you last minute only to be treated poorly for not managing to get ALL tasks for all positions done with in the 8 hr period we alot you that will actually be 10+ hours when you'll stay because you'll know we expect you to without even asking because we will simply act like you should and act nonchalantly as if it's still work time even as 5:30 rolls around just waiting to see if you'll have the guts to bring up it's time for you to leave. We like putting good workers in that awkward position.....then also we will be fully aware even 10 hrs isn't actually enough time either, but we will make sure to make it a point to put lots of pressure on you about overtime and how we dislike it just to keep that fire under your ass, while placing more and more responsibility on you at the same pay as the one position we discussed at the interview when we hired you....and see children might get in the way of all that so...thanks for taking your time and putting in the effort, but no thanks because you had kids even though you are incredibly well qualified😊...NEXT!👀...🙄😒.
Well, just my past experiences as to what those kind of comments translate too because I've unfortunately had the experience of being offered positions at these places and accepted and this was the result. Sad but true....and no I'm not a new graduate or uneducated with no experience. I have experience in much more advanced positions than medical secretary or basic office help and I've worked a several different feilds at different skill, education and experience levels and really the one thing I find to be in common with all set ups where you are working for someone else is that all employers want more for less than what any good quality worker is worth and since their are always going to be people who don't understand that yet who are much more appealing to employers, even when the most qualified person is willing to take the job anyway. The employer will chose the candidate most likely to be exploited for less pay if they feel they can be trained successfully.
If you have no kids, that definitely doesn't mean you don't have a life. Believe me. And those WITH kids are usually the ones with no life lol! Around your doggone kids all the time to not be able to do anything else but cater to their kids.
I got a new job 3 weeks ago. It was a traumatizing experience. Manager made me rush thru my computer training that teaches me how to use the software. Day 3, he’s throwing me to the wolves; I’m answering phone calls and helping customers not having an idea of what to do or say. This mgr would constantly show up 3-4 hours late, sometimes not at all. I’d have to keep calling him asking for help and he’d always answer the phone like I’m inconveniencing him/he can’t be bothered with me/he’s irritated with me. One day I had a line of guests complaining that they all had been charged twice, I didn’t know what to do or how to solve the problem. I called my mgr for help and he blamed another coworker. It was so stressful I started drinking again 😂 It’s like my manager hired a receptionist (me) to take his place or something bc he don’t wanna be there
Great video!!❤️... during an interview the employer asked me outta nowhere if I was Jewish. Because I “looked” it. I felt SO uncomfortable. I said yes I am, why? She said, oh good, I love to have diversity on the team and I love the Jews. I was like......????
You're Beautiful and thank you for this video. 🗽💐💛🐎🗝
Thank you for sharing!
I haven't been asked specifically uncomfortable questions in an interview, but one interviewer kept trying to find out if I was single & kept staring at the "girls" despite the fact I was wearing a business suit & the top was NOT low cut. I stood up, told him I didn't want to waste anymore of his time b/c I knew we weren't a fit, & that me & my breasts would not be taking the job. He turned red & I walked out. That was definitely a red flag, lol!!
Definitely a red flag! What an uncomfortable experience!
OMG! My last boss had all all these warning signs! She showed up almost 30 minutes late for my interview, her cabinet and sample room was disorganized, she asked me if I had kids and was married and she also asked me where I lived. I learned once I was there, the turnover rate was extremely high. On my 2nd day there, one girl was fired and she was only working there for only a couple of months. (she sent the girl to the other room and told us other employees that she was going to fire her before she told the girl). She called in another girl to replace the 1st girl that same day. She only lasted 2 months and ended up quitting in the middle of the day. About 2 months later, the 3rd girl that worked in the office and started to months before me ended up quitting in the middle of the day (she only lasted 4 months total). The 4th girl that she hired to replace the 3rd girl, noticed the fuckery with the owner and office and ended up quitting after only a week. She ended up firing me after working for her 6.5 months for being rude (Yes, I know. Ironic). I can't wait until her business fails. I will be definitely celebrating her failure.
Wow. It is amazing how hindsight is truly 20/20. If you are on your job search now, do you take the time to look for these signs now (because of what you experienced earlier)?
I'm working with a bad employer now. Don't get me wrong they mean well, but yeeeah it's time to go for me.
Thank you for sharing!
I’m currently interviewing and I noticed some red flags from the first interview. First, they mentioned that they were supposed to have someone in the position months ago, but couldn’t find anyone they wanted to hire so they redid the interview process with new candidates. Second, they followed up with me after the first interview and invited me for a second interview- but wouldn’t give me directions to the location UNTIL it was “closer” to the interview day. A day before the second interview, I still hadn’t received directions, so I reached out- they apologized, said they were busy with finals week, and sent the directions. I get to the location to have my interview, and the supervisor isn’t there because of a “family emergency” so I had to interview with everyone else but him until he came back. The supervisor reached out weeks later to interview with him and his supervisor. We scheduled the date, I show up- and the supervisor is not there AGAIN, so I had to interview with a new person without him. Then he reached out to me a couple of days later and said he had another “family emergency” and would like to still meet with me. I hesitated at first, then I responded and agreed to meet. However I haven’t received a confirmation. I feel it in my soul that they already have someone who they’re planning to hire. But the inconsistencies with this company was horrible.
Michelle, you are correct to notice red flags in this situation. It sounds like you are being patient throughout the process, which can be challenging. Emergencies and things happen, which is part of being human. Great job hanging in there on the delayed process. Keep in mind, is this their normal process or is this an exception to the interview process.
Hi thanx for your great advices. Just could you please tell a little more about what means "getting warm body at the position". Because right now I am interviewing with a start-up company who seem very eager to hire me, despite in my opinion I missed to answer some of their questions in best way. This makes me worried if I am about to be hired by a company that is a good fit to me.
Great question! Here's what I meant! Be wary of companies eager to hire you with little to no knowledge of your experience. "Getting a warm body in the position" simply means the organization, isn't focused on the right fit, but rather just getting someone in the position as quickly as possible. There could be multiple reasons for this aggressive movement. Usually when things are too good to be true, there's a reason behind it. Ensure you are researching as much as you can before making the decision to accept the position. It is alright, to decline an offer especially if there are valid red flags.
I was asked if I was married or had children. It was awkward.
I know this video is over a year old but have to share a recent red flag. I earned my masters in addictions counseling last year and passed the state certification in October. I am getting tons of interviews but one place sent bad vibes. First apparently they didn't receive my resume so instead of asking questions they started asking me textbook questions that anyone taking a basic drug class would know. After that I was then offered a job on the spot. Didn't tell me anything about it, just offered it and told me I needed to tell them by Friday (ths was Wednesday). I kept getting pressured to take the job on the spot. So I took it and things came out, such as I would have to work overnights on weekends, and require driving patients to appointments. I should mention that while in school this place was known as a rough place that paid lower than other places and more entry level, so the idea of them hiring me for a more management job was weird. Then they wanted me to start the following week and when I told them I had other obligations was told that I needed to put them first. While looking at reviews it said they have a huge turnover. IEven though I need a job and the pay was good it had bad vibes so I turned it down.
I am proud of you for trusting your instincts & for doing your research!
@@CareerSuccess Thank you. Yeah it seemed off. I've been job searching on and off for over 20 years (the last time about less than a year). and have never run into any of that. I've never been offered a job on the spot making what I would have. The only times I was offered a job on the spot were fast food jobs when I was a teen. I need a job of course but when other places are doing 2-3 interviews and asking job related questions I knew it was off. I don't want to work 3-12am on weekends.
I’ve been asked if I was ever planning to loose weight. It was a interview for a concierge service to a dealership
Hi Sara - I appreciate you being willing to share that. That is never an acceptable question to ask. I'm proud of you for noticing this as a red flag.
Dealerships are horrible. It was a dodged bullet, totally...oh and yeah...could you have pointed out all the beer bellied, hopeless and ashen faced middle aged dudes who can always be found working at car dealerships smoking outside and asked the interviewer if they planned on getting their aesthetics together anytime soon?😊...so rude. Happy you didn't take that one.
😂😂😂😂😂
my first interview after the pandemic was a place that asked illegal questions like 6 of them lol🤣🤣
Yikes!
I have just left from an interview where the interviewer has asked me: If have I got any children? And she has started to tell me my curriculum is a crap and she want to have more things and then, what is the problem that I put in a curriculum my experience and my formation which is specific for that job? I do not think is necessary to tell all your job story, and all my life I supposed I need to put a curriculum things which are necessary for that job, I AM ANGRY TO BE HONEST!
I once had an interview with HP company and a manager were just typing on his computer the 10min which the interview last. On different occasions they asked me about me religion, and because i was in need of the job and I knew my religion was a minority, i said my religion was the one they wanted to hear, so after receiving such “comforting” answer they started off by saying Bs about minority religions.
I'm glad you noticed this as a sign of a bad employer!
For me I'm torn because my boss was nice but at the same time every month I had to ask for my wages. usually people get their pay after midnight but I had to wait till midday the next day. Then I got let go and ghosted completely, they never responded to any of my messages and I messaged on multiple places but nothing
Thank you for sharing!
I was asked what my marital status was which I found odd as it's a job at an office job.
Thanks for visiting the Career Success Channel. It is sometimes an interesting experience based on the skills of the person interviewing.
Lol! I had a lead supervisor breaking my headset while i was at lunch. After years of struggling, I caught her red handed. The manager at my job has no management experience. She worked 1 job her whole life and it was under 5 years. During the pandemic her pretty boy assistant manager laughed at me when i told her the work load was too high and its causing software crashes.

@@CareerSuccess personally, i research my managers on linked in and make sure they have a job history. Its unfair to work for a manager with a bachelors degree whos first job was in management and has no idea how to treat people or what it feels like to work the job they are telling us to do. Some of these jobs are exhausting ans ive had many managers yell at me.
@@CareerSuccess i have worked for my company 3 years. My white coworkers got promoted to supervisors in 5 months. All management and all supervisors are white with the exception of a few white washed hispanics. I am on the lookout for a new job. Minorities dont tend to last long at captioncall, there is alot of racism and i noticed my manager yells at me endlessly but wont yell at other people.
Gosh my most recent job, which I left due to extreme toxicity and questionable practices, was at a so-called family-run business. The place was rife with nepotism! Incidentally the owner-manager belonged to the same ethnicity as me, which I didn't think much of at first, because the team seemed diverse enough at first. Gradually the owner-manager harassed, mistreated, and abused all the competent local workers and replaced all of them with workers who are new immigrants of his own (our) ethnicity, so they'd be easier to exploit and that too on bare minimum wages! Each day was a torture, working for that narcissist. He'd throw us under the bus for his own faults, gaslight us, yell at us using choice words, fly off the handle at the tiniest thing and make us cry, etc. Ultimately I had no option but to quit. And oh, him, his wife, and toddler (with her noisy toys) would be hanging out in the office area regularly, and it seemed more like a noisy daycare or restaurant than an office. Extremely distracting and impossible to work amongst all that. Glad I left that hell-hole.
Thank you for sharing your experience!
Uncomfortable question that I got: If you are planning to get married and if that will make you relocate?
I had an interview today where she was late by 15 minutes. She arrived from a job with 2 employees 45 minutes after their day is supposed to be done. A newish employee waiting for her ride home mentioned that only 2/6 staff hired when she started are still there. There was literally zero interviewing when the boss arrived. I said about 3 words. She said she'd call us to tell us which day next week we'll start. (I didnt even agree to the job). When she calls I'll have to refuse.
I appreciate you sharing. It is important that you make a decision on what is best for you as well. Keep paying attention to signs!
Great questions…….. unfortunately 99% of employers lie about back filling the previous role.
Thank you for commenting in the Career Success Channel. It can be difficult to validate the back fill information provided for certain. There are still some leaders who do provide accurate information.
1. They miss the phone interview. My husband had one set up with a manager and the guy NEVER called him. In the previous "set up" interview, the guy kept interrupting my husband, really didn't have an idea what experience my husband had, and put my husband on hold several times.Yes-- 2 red flags. The third with that place was that they were reluctant to pay even fair wages despite experience. For me, well, here's one. I was called to set up an interview. I was very honest upfront and said, "your ad said 8 am till 4. I have a child and cannot work before those hours and not long after. Are you sure these will be the steady hours? " The woman assured me that's fine M-F it was those hours. Well, I go in for the interview and they start saying on Wed you have to open the school at 6 am but you will get home early that day! I walked out. I said you lied to me. I was honest with you and you lied and wasted my time. Later on that school had one administrator arrested on dubious charges. The reputation of the place tanked. Karma. Dodged a bad one.
Thank you for sharing! It is unfortunate when good people experience bad situations, like the one you have. However, it's great that you were able to recognize the red flags beforehand.
Smh
Good information. But what happens if a person is interviewed by a Search Committee made up of 6 people?
They made me wait for about 15 mins and they called me in later and i was interviewed by 7 persons asking me questions instead of one .
that happened to me. I aced that interview. they thought they would catch me off guard. I was like a boss in that interview because I was 1] pissed that they were late and 2] sat me in front of, in my case 5 people. they offered me the job (not on the spot). i respectfully declined and told them I took another position.
I had a interview scheduled last week & 1 hour prior to the interview I received a phone call from recruitment to tell me the interviewer had a ‘emergency’ and would have to reschedule which I found a big red flag as their was three managers name on the interview. I have a new interview with them today but my gut told me don’t waste your time plus their reviews high turn overs.
You have to know what is going to work for YOU as well.

Was once asked if I have children, years ago when I had only my son. Told her yes and was told they don't want to hire someone with children. 🤨WT#! Offered a job yesterday and then again today WITHOUT being interviewed. called or met in person at all. This company's owner saw my resume after I applied through indeed and texts me a job offer where the position calls for 7 days a week, 10:00 pm to 6:00 am, 500.00 every 2 wks and if I start I have to start immediately, like they wanted somebody (me or whoever else will take it I guess??🤔??)to start yesterday night, well, um..let's see, never met you, not enough $$ for those kinds of hrs and that kind of shift, and it says right on my resume I am currently working another job, where I make more $$ per hr, obviously, gees, and get paid weekly, but the issue is it's less hours so looking for a job with more hours, but um, not 56 hrs a week, working all 7 days at that low of pay, seriously?....and lastly, how can I start the very same day you just toss me a text with the business location, which I know is legit because it's a national chain, and schedul demands when I would need to at least give my current company notice of some sort, I mean at least a day. If this current company was awful to me and the pay and the hours for the new one where just what I was looking for it would be different, but neither one of those is the case. The person sent me another text and it's clear they are desperate for peo peo people, like you say...it feels like they just want a body and with those scheduling demands and that pay I imagine it's hard to keep people, but I really wonder what is going on with some employers these days. I have also encountered a few interviewers who come off rude or yes, ones that let you sit there forever. I just walk out on the ones who have you sitting there forever. I just leave. They won't treat you well once employed with them either.
Kickinrocks926, thanks for leaving a comment. I'm sorry that you've experienced such a poor interview (or actually non-interview) experience. It is great that you were intelligent enough to see the signs before simply accepting the offer. You know the signs now and you will eventually find what is right for you. Good luck! Keep me posted.
I interviewed on the tues. The man who arranged my interview and had been talking w on email opened the door for me, said 'you can sit here it's not time yet' (I was 8 mins early). Don't think he even said hello
I was told 1 Oct is start date in interview, lasted 30 mins
That night I get offer from CEO at 00.15am, now with start date 21 Sept.
Salary offer is 400 less than advertised.
And he's pushing pushing pushing me to start asap and doesn't care that I work a demanding night job that requires 30 days notice.
I'm tempted by the opportunity but it feels so weird. And I'm a foreigner so it's tougher for me.
I start training tomorrow but feel I've been pushed around. I might not sign a contract and just leave it
A job interview is just as much for you as it is for them. You should be able to be comfortable in any new position you take on.
I had a supervisor tell me that they can't get anyone to cone to work . He went on to say they ( ppl who worked for the company ) apparently found a way to live for free.
Hi Jillian, Thank you for watching the Career Success Channel. Sometimes we hear or over hear things in the workplace that aren't appropriate. The best thing to do is to not give a response at all. This let's the individual know how you feel about their statement and that you don't which to engage in the conversation. I hope this helps in the future. Thank you for your comment.
@@CareerSuccess Yes, If a comment from someone who is a co worker to a hiring manager to me that doesn't meet the my personal standards I do not engage further.
money will come how do expect me to pay rent, gas keep working , i left more two opportunities to apply for now feel stuck in debt how do i get out oplease help
I just got pass on a job because the interviewer asked me my age
Well i have been asked most recently by the director of operation how old i am, i had to tell him.
Also during the interview we were 2 candidate, first person that was interviewed was with the hiring manager and the HR, then during my turn, the HR introduced me to the Director that he will be interviewing me, and she had to run to her desk as she got some work that needs immediate attention.
Is that a good sign? Curious
It is common decency for an interviewer to finish out an interview, so this behavior is something to pay attention to. It is not a sign, however, that you are a bad candidate for the position!
Thanks for the response, anyway i did not get the job, cause the HR emailed me today that they have decided to put a hols on the position for now and will contact me if they will proceed with hiring, sounds weird to me, but i have moved on anyway
Sign number 4 is sign number 1 for me.
Thank you for sharing!
Years ago, before I was married, an attorney I interviewed with asked me if I had a boyfriend!😱😮🤣
Yikes. Thanks for sharing!
Recently had an interviewer who was 5 minutes late for an online interview. When she finally came online she was standing over the computer with her coat on. She apologized for being late but kept her coat on for the entire interview. She was not prepared or interested.
What a disappointing experience!
Number 0: The interviewer never shows up for an hour.
Alternatively, your interviewer never introduces themselves.
Brandon, Yikes! I have heard of both occurrences happening. That is definitely an interview red flag!
Lol thats a no. If they disrespect you before you even hired basically a stranger from a street they will care even less once you in
Not me but an old college professor of mine said he was asked if he was gay (he wasn't) in an interview. He turned the job down.
That is such an invasive & inappropriate question!
This has happened A LOT: I was asked if I had plans on having a baby "in the next year(s)"..
*cringe*
Is there on the job training available? 🔭📚
Thank you for sharing!
One asked me if I wanted children and as soon as he asked me. They offerred me the job but I declined.
I'm proud of you for watching for red flags & knowing what is best for you.
I keep seeing if the Interviewer is late that is a "red flag". Not so sure about this. Life happens - unless it is a dedicated HR person, most managers are working interviews into their work schedule. If a client meeting runs over or there is a family emergency for someone at work, would not be a reason to dismiss a potentially good employer or position.
I appreciate you sharing!
I was asked do I have any issues working with LGBT. That was very odd to ask. Of a specific because this organization is specified towards that community but why ask this question?
Cherise McKnight hmm that is strange
How would you respond to a interviewer asking an illegal question? Like if they ask my age or if I am or plan to be pregnant
I would politely tell them you are not comfortable answering the question as it is inappropriate.
Here's one. I worked in a union our employer had a team of lawyers that were paid hundreds of thousands if not millions to exploit every loophole in the contract. They wanted us to waive turn around and meal penalties. Never let your employer get you to waive or give up anything. Always make them pay. Never ever work off the clock and never try to save your employer money. If you're in charge of a project always go over budget.
Thank you for sharing your experience!
I am just wondering...i got today the interview invitation. The email was short, not even saying thank you for the interest in the position. There was just a request to confirm my availability for a technical interview. I responded, confirming the availability and asked if it is gonna be onsite and if i need to prepare a presentation for it. As the answer i just got an email with the link for zoom meeting and no text that answers my other questions. Feels weird. Does it seem as the red flags for you?
It appears that their recruiting team (if that's who you've been corresponding with) isn't the best at creating a good candidate experience. Unfortunately, I have to say to my clients quite often, do not let a busy, rushed recruiter spoil your thoughts about a company because it still could be quite a good company. Focus more on your experience with the hiring manager. I would send a follow up email to the recruiter, however. Plus, I would share feedback about the recruiter (if that is the person you've been talking to) with the hiring manager.
Does asking illegal questions still happen? Didn't think that still happened.
Unfortunately, it does! Thank you for commenting.
Manager does dismiss me a lot. Too much for their own gd
Thank you for leaving a comment. Have you tried sharing this with your manager (i.e., that you feel dismissed)?
He is just busy and laid back is their style. I will ask the other Temps or temporary workers if they get training. Training outside the organisation costs a lot of money and one needs it to grow or compete in interviews.
Be careful of of people who want to hire you and they try to make you talk about yourself that is a bit too personal. Be careful of people who call you on the phone and askf or you to do a 12hr shift.
