Mint video, im not sure why but the M1 samples sound better than the actual M1 plug so cheers mate, coffee bought and im subscribing. Keep doing your thing
Correction: Soundfont format is not technically "open source" , it's publicly available for use but owned by Creative. Also: I forgot to mention that just like the delay you don't want too many lows and highs in the reverb signal, you can see at 9:07 I have an eq filtering them out before feeding the 'verb
RaveGenerator has also a nice M1 Piano Sound (you can find it in the synht tab) - it sounds brighter and has more attack but has less sustain - another good free alternative
Noce video! Love this one! I have one question (It could be a topic that can be for a video), But I hear that you didn't see chain the Piano and kick to get that Pump effect on that is very common in EDM music. How you get that feeling right? I heard that the Kick doesn't clash with the Piano in this example. There is a Sound selection theory behind this or just mixing?
Thanks! It's just an artistic decision really. The side chaining (for effect) wasn't a thing in the 90s, so if you want a more 'classic' feel then it's not needed. That sound is coming back via the likes of Ben Hemsley and Ewan McVicar etc. The sound selection here is why you can hear both, there is no extra mixing that you didn't see in the vid. the kick has no processing on it all. The only place side chaining is really needed is sub bass, anything else is an aesthetic /emotional choice.
With piano house tracks (especially when using the M1 or samples of it) unless you play chords in a really low octave (which isn't a good idea for a piano-led track) the piano chords' fundamental frequencies are way above the pitch of the kick or bassline. I think it's one of the reasons why M1 piano tracks were so popular and relatively easy to produce. By default, the "plasticky" M1 piano didn't interfere with the kick. Rolling off a bit of low end and boosting some high mids (with an EQ) makes it cut through with no sidechain ducking required.
love your videos mate, legend. May I ask a question. It wasn't mentioned in the video and the sound was great, do you not layer pianos? Or is sound selection good enough?
Thanks i don't usually layer no. . Layering pianos typically causes them to chorus, because pianos are not actually 'in tune' when sampled. Pianos pretty unique among acoustic instruments in that they are "stretch tuned" , meaning the higher notes are sharper than mathematically pure pitch and the lower notes are flatter. Not to a fixed standard either. It's all dependent on the length of the strings in the original piano. So they'll all be tuned slightly differently. So any layer produces a chorus effect and personally I feel chorus softens the sound so when I want a punch direct sound I use a single piano, want that's mono compatible (Which is another thing to watch out for as many are not)
"Mono compatible". Meaning it doesn't change significantly when played back in mono. It's common to find sampled acoustic instruments like pianos , strings etc that were miced up to 'impress'. Giving a nice wide sound, that's a great technique for the few people left on the planet with audiophile stereo systems who listen to well recorded orchestral and jazz music, but it's terrible for club music! Many wide sounding stereo instruments collapse in mono due to phase cancellation, making it much quieter and thinner, thus completely changing the mix when played backing mono. Or even near mono. That's important because many clubs still play back in mono, on many listening devices like TVs, sound bars and phones have their speakers too close together to be usefully stereo. The only listeners who benefit greatly will be headphones users, The headphones aren't even technically stereo either, they are binaural , but don't get me started on that 🤣! To sum up, always check your dance music in mono. We have make our tracks work for both mono and stereo playback. (Which is why panning elements doesn't solve mix problems) If you ever get time, at my first live stream making piano house from scratch, there is a part in there where I discovered the reference track was poor in mono and I talk about that more.
There's a lot of white noise in the beat so that helps everything sit, EQ to match the drums so it doesn't jump forward, it may be limited or just a squashed master, also heavy side chain. I don't hear anything bizarre going on
I don't think the official one is . Well It's kind of panned high notes right low notes left + reverb. I can't remember if the actual sample was mono I'll have to check
Another stonking video. I'm glad to have come across your channel, albeit accidentally. Looking fwd to checking out the rest of your posts 👍 What artist name do you release on btw?
Thanks for the hass effect plugin screwing the mids I just realize some of my tracks were less punchy just because of that. I can add to the process You may want to add soothe 2 after the ott to get back some clarity in the mids and then a 1176 after the dducking delay to add glue.
I've never needed a plugin like soothe tbh, after a few hundred million streams you stop trying to make each sound 'perfect' when you see it doesn't make much difference to your audience, and in fact can hurt the track. Instead I focus on the emotional response, it's perfectly appropriate for the piano to 'stick out' in a piano house track! I find plugins like soothe make can put you in danger of making very balanced mixes, which emotionally can be a flat. Certainly as I am always catering for an audience at beginner level, any flat recommendation of any dynamics processing before they have the ear training and monitoring environment to properly judge those elements would be irresponsible on my part.
Quick question: I noticed you put the delay and reverb on your piano bus, rather than a return channel. Any pros/cons for not using the return channels?
Hey mate. Loving your videos, on a bing streak. However, if it’s not too much to ask, are you able to share the delay and reverb custom racks that you’ve setup there? You’ve set them up a bit different way with chains. Just a bit hard to follow as beginner and get the same sound. All good if you can’t. Awesome video.
Yeah lots of people asking! I'm working on it ASAP. Thing is they use 3rd party plugins which I can't redistribute. I'll be showing it in video soon but they are just two parallel paths (chains) and one is blank (for dry) and the wet side is just the effect (like tal reverb) preceded by a volume knob (utility plugin). That's basically it. It's just like a send effect that's all it is. But the reason I do it that way is so when I grab sounds from other sessions I don't have to remake the send effect.
@@BthelickThanks mate, I understand your point. I also understand and appreciate your explanation about the rack. I'll try to recreate it but will also keep an eye out for the video as well. The video will be really useful to us beginners. Thanks again. :)

Oh Yeah samplitude! I had forgotten about that one, it's perfectly valid of course yes. I started my journey as a music tech salesmen in the UK, we sold practically every daw, even outliers like digital performer, tracktion etc, but never sold samplitude for some reason , so I always forget that one. And these days I suppose it's not really on the tongues of most peers in the dance music field either. But absolutely any daw is valid yeah.

And whilst the free processors and instruments are great, I don't think I could manage with only free sample libraries in some genres, I do abuse my splice membership! Having said that though it's more of a speed thing, free samples might be possible if time wasn't a factor.
As I think you're aware, an alternative to messing about with samples is the free Micro Piano VST plugin from Meat Beats. It's very M1-like, but I have a feeling it contains samples from a Roland S-series sampler, which no doubt included the sound because of the popularity of the Korg piano sound. ruclips.net/video/jL7N5NqdDOw/видео.html

@@Bthelick Jup, exactly the same one as you showed in the video. But when I checked the sound of the A1, I was like hmmm, this doesn't sound like it does in your video. Then I checked the B1 and that sounded like an A1 hahaha. I didn't find a solution yet sadly enough.
@@jarne2981 that's annoying.
Try grabbing another soundfont player to check.
I think the DSK one is simple to install from memory
@@Bthelick Thanks for the help :) I'll try it out!
@@Bthelick I just pitched it up 2st and now it sounds good haha, thanks for the help a rookie mistake I guess.
Midi Chord pattern would be nice? - just to see general structure
This is the sound video, the midi was shown in the writing video,

Did you end up releasing this track? I really like it
Thankyou , It's due for release soon yes! Keep an eye out in the usual places 🙏👊
anyone know how to load the Kriminal pack into kontakt? if it is the sf2 file i'm pretty lost there
Do you have full kontakt or kontakt player?
@@Bthelick ah, the player, I got played
Ah sorry I didn't know about that distinction until after the video 😞
@@Bthelick no worries I appreciate your providing many alternates
Great work, very well delivered. I’m curious though, you and others mention other daws for compatibility and so on, as you should, but no one ever mentions Samplitude! Not complaining but just curios. I’ve been using it for more than 25 years and find it all encompassing.
Unfortunately, the current version of Vital has a bug for some users... me being one. Flickering screen, with occasional moments of blackness. Previous version is fine but your bass patch wont load in older version. Hopefully they'll have the bug fixed soon, if anyone knows what I might need to change, do let me know. Thank you
I use 1.5.3 i think it's a few versions back. Try that one if you can
I just bought the KORG M1 plugin and I'm kind of lost. Where can I find that specific piano sound and what is it called? Also great tutorial once again, keep doing what you're doing! 🙂
It is called piano 16'
Is there a soundcloud version of the song? :)
Sorry I stopped uploading to SoundCloud every time I uploaded my own songs they get copyright striked!
@@Bthelick ah that sucks. Is there anywhere to grab the song anywhere else? I actually love it lol
Good question! Beatport will sell it or other stores maybe? Or just email me (bthelick at Gmail com) and I'll send you a copy as soon as I remember what I named it! 🤣
@@Bthelickno luck i guess ? 😂 i emailed you :)
Hey, is the M1 sample website and as well as the use of the other websites safe? Good video and thanks in advance.
safe as in potential malware, or safe as in legal use of the sample?
safe as in potential malware
@@graham6916 no virus scanned no, I've had no problems using for a good while too and the source files are still on my drive
@@Bthelick talking in a legal sense, would problems arise if you were to release a song using this m1 sample? Ik the original is obv owned by Korg, but if you layer this sample and edit it slightly would that allow you to release a song with it (with no copyright issues etc)?
@@ililililililililil6974 we're not at the stage yet where ai can detect a sound origin of a keyboard sample, don't worry.
it's not quite the same as sampling a recording in that sense. Even without a layer, how would they know who owns a real m1 and who doesn't?
did you release the track?
Yes. I called it "common tone". Enjoy!
Work on cubase?
Yes it should. It's all free VST and Steinberg invented the vst standard!
Hi! Can i use this on mac m1 ?
Good question, I'm sure it will run, I just don't know about native support sorry, you'll have to check the websites of the respective plugins.
Unfortunately when Apple move the goalposts the individuals and small brands responsible for free plugins usually suffer most and take longest to catch up.
where i can get full song?
great question! I just checked, looks like It's still in the queue for release , I'll bump it up the order for you 👊🙏
🥰
Do you provide courses?
The YT videos ARE the course!!
in terms of a formal course I haven't made on yet, they will need to be genre specific and I haven't found the time yet.
Let me know what you my YT videos haven't covered and I'll put it towards a future course 👊
You should defo do one, your sound is exactly what I'm looking for. As a begginers I would have 100 percent purchased it. Thanks for the videos mate 👌🙏
You mean the voice? Or the piano house sound? Because I make lots of different genres
Piano house sound
@@AFORADAM1985 ah ok thanks.
well like I say let me know what my channel doesn't' cover , because all you need for piano house should be right here.
sweet video, what's the song?
Thanks I haven't named it yet, but it will be released soon 👊
@@Bthelick Can't wait, couldn't stop myself from bouncing all video
@@franknjayshow The 2min mix is already out, we called it "common tone" in the end.
The other mixes will follow soon.
Teach us how to mix that kind o piano pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Well do you consider this track to sound mixed? Because I do. And everything is just right there in the video. I don't do anything else to it for release. That's the whole process.
@@Bthelick Yes I do, that piano sound amazing, it has the perfect amount of reverb and delay!
im so close of selling my laptop that I payed thousands for and started over with a smaller more realistic laptop and using all your free plug ins for my music and only free sample packs
Haha. It is pretty amazing what you can get away with now. I only have this little hx90 mini pc now. And whilst the free processors and instruments are great, I don't think I could manage with only free sample libraries in some genres, I do abuse my splice membership! Having said that though it's more of a speed thing, free samples might be possible if time wasn't a factor.
@@Bthelick I just want to use your philosophy on only having plug ins you actually use and organized samples. I will work on it soon
Yeah it's differently useful. I've used it in subsequent videos
Thanks for making me aware of the micro piano! Downloaded it this morning and it sounds great
Thank you very much!
I've tried to loa that M1 piano bank on Tx16wx but it totally messed those samples regions... 😂
When it's about Tx16wx I'm a super dumb, I know it...
It looks like a NASA panel to me... 😁
Oh really that's weird I didn't have any issues.
Are you sure you're loading a new sound? It sounds like it's trying to edit an existing one. You shouldn't have to touch the zones page at all.
But yeah agreed, just like kontakt it's an incredibly unintuitive UI.
@Bthelick I think it sbod load properly but...
...it's not.
Just reopened the DAW, opened TX16Wx, loaded the .akp file and all I get is a little messed up sample ranges.
Some samples are not tuned properly, repeating the same nit on 3 or 4 keys...
I'll try to find any update for this sampler...
Thank you!
@@Bthelick Oh, wow, I've just UPDATED my brain...
Problem solved.
Tried a different file - the .sfz .
Working perfectly, now!!!
I told you I am really dumb when dealing with these samplers and files that limit them like '90 video games consoles...
My gear used to be an e-mu ESi-32, an AKAI S-950, and an MPC60, all of them fully expanded. And Roland TR-909...
...in this subject, I was happy and never figured out...
I (literally) threw all of them in the trash, believe you or not...
Now, I'm trying to spend some time trying to make some tracks...
...and everywhere I look I can see people disputing those devices, paying for them money enough to buy a house... 😂
Ah the old brain needed a firmware update did it?
Yeah mine does that a lot 🤣.
That's classic gear alright. I think I would spend more time making it all sync up nice than making the music though!
@@Bthelick "... I think I would spend more time making it all sync up nice than making the music though!..." That's for sure!!!!
Even though you seem to be very talented and know what you're doing, those devices used to make me a lot "insecure" about that sound quality at that "age" people were looking for pristine shiny sounds.
Today I see trunks of money spent to make audio sound like a dirty head, old 100-times re-used cassette tapes, vinyl statics, and rumble...
...go figure!
So, never throw away your gear.
it can become your "treasure" in the future... 😅
im in love with you
