You do realize he provides the chords along with his playing, right? The people punching things into a piano roll (or maybe a tracker, which is how a lot of this music was made way back in the day) actually have to know some music theory, so most of them are going to be looking for the kind of chords and rhythm needed to get the sound.

After all and all these years, I still feel that happy feeling in my body and a little smile is on my face when I hear that M1 Piano sound. That sound was soooo huge and maybe is as big as 303, 909 and 808. It defined an era of music. It is the reason I can't sell my M1REx. It's just fantastic and played percussively even more fantastic. It was for electronic music, what was the Trabant car for the people living in the DDR/GDR. It was what the sun is for summer and snow for winter. It is what petrol and gasoline was for the automotive industry. It made everything so so so much better and was in it's way important for the scene! I love it. If there was a church of music, M1 Piano was one of the gods to send your prayers to. Same for the TX81z Latelybass patch. :-) Graceful! Thanks!
Greetings from Canada, Just wanted to express my thanks for all the content you produce. That early era of house/techno/acid/rave electronic dance music has been the one constant, throughout my (musical) life. While interest in other musical genres have come and gone, these songs from that era are still ones that I can listen to, at age 43, and be transported right back to the floor of the warehouse, club, or field I used to dance upon, during those days gone by. I've always been fascinated with the arrangements, and the way you break down the patterns and instruments, is fascinating. The knowledge I've gained from you, has allowed me to fool around making my own beats and rhythms (strictly for myself...no delusions of grandeur, lol). Because of your musical analysis, I find myself grabbing my midi-synths and jamming on these classic sounds, more than I would say, pick up my guitar and channel my inner Jimi Hendrix (although, I still do that from time to time, much to the dismay of my neighbours, haha). A sincere thank-you, for doing your part in keeping the spirit alive.
Some of my favorite chord progressions are Congress - 40 Miles (which I think is actually a sample from another song, just don’t remember off the top of my head) and Manix! - Feel Real Good, which is a progression from another song as well. Question: have you ever had outputs on your TR-909 go bad? The hi hat on mine has terrible distortion/static and my heart is broken over it :-(
Hey Paolo this is a great breakdown of how to play some classic tracks from the 80/90. I'm the age where like many of the others commenting here it brings back memories
fantastic! I remember my first synth at around 1989 which was a Yamaha DX21..you would tear your hair out trying to get any half decent piano sound out of it. the M1 certainly raised the bar with that piano sound in 1988.
Got this in my high school, and after 30+ years I still enjoy designing sounds out of it. Granted it's no true Analog or FM synth, but lots of time you can get close if you are good. You can isolate out the attack of PCM and then combine with synth waveforms from DW8000 or different PCM loop to create 'synth acoustic' sounds that can only be synthesized by 8-operator FM. It takes a creative mind(not preset player) to fully explore M1's potential !
Love this keyboard. Just bought one absolutely mint with 5 extra cards and original manual for a steal at $250. One of my first in my vintage collection that I just started. Love this channel for classic vintage gear.
Oh, thanks! Love this sounds so much. And also love when you talk about classic house/techno/rave scene. Edit: maybe some more videos with more of M1s organ?
nice video again 🤗👍 there's one thing i missed in this video; in the early rave and techno scene they used samples A LOT.. so what they used to do is they play one chord and sampled that chord on a roland w30 or an akai. then the pitched the sample some what and played that one chord sample on the midi keyboard. that's how they got that short, percursive rave sound 😎👍
The video hasn't even started yet and I already know it is going to be one of my favourite from you! I LOVE these oldskool style videos from you! =DDDD Thanks so much for doing these, I always love how they sound and always learn so much from them too!
Actually the time period when all this super stuff have been created was far too short, Praga Khan, Acen, Prodigy, SL2, and many more - why they do not have so many albums like Sinatra have or so? Well, we got recently few years of other nice and banging music called UK Freeform (Happy) Hardcore, but this was also insufficient.
The part starting at around 7:54 sounds AWESOME, man! I remember programming a "HOUSE PIANO" patch on my 4-operator FM synth Yamaha YS100 back in the days (well...sort of...and just as good as FM allowed it to be). I used it to play the chords of "People hold on" by Coldcut feat. Lisa Stansfield and the chords of "I don't know anybody else" by Black Box. It did the job surprisingly well.
Great song selections! These demonstrations are my favorite types of videos from you. Especially love the M1 techno/house stuff like this! And 👍 for Dee-Lite!! 😊
How interesting. I remember both Dj Bobo and of course Ride On Time, - fun to see how they were made. I just saw the video with the Mirage and Inner City :-)
That was absolute awesome Paolo, thanks for those early 90's house tutorials. I am glad you bring the M1 to the front burner now. Paolo can you show us the cords (tutorial) of the house piano riff in your previous video about Robin S - Show me love. You played some typical house piano riff, but your right hand is not seen what cords are playing. Many thanks!
ride on time, 30 years old and still sounds great.
Still the best house piano riff
All do!
Injected With A Poison is a sadly overlooked classic and a total banger. More ideas in that one rave track than in many modern pop albums
This video will improve happiness levels.
The viewings will continue until happiness improves
7:32 I shouted "hoaaaa ohhhh"
Ride on Time was superb- I especially loved the arpeggiated pluck at 7.55 though
Ahh, Black Box, Ride on Time - my all time favorite!
The thumbs down are people who thought this was going to be a video of a man with a mouse clicking on things in ableton.
You do realize he provides the chords along with his playing, right?

many happy tunes, great job!
Many thanks!
Injected with a Poison was a huge Anthem in Australia during the rave scene, love this video, thanks!
It was big in Europe as well. Thank you for watching!
Also big in Belgium. I ve seen them live a few times. Maurice is a great guy.
SynthMania yes i remember it too
@@SynthManiaDotCom Any chance you could a short video of Pragha Khan - Moonday. It's a class piano tune.
Loved this thanks. ( I'm 53 now so many happy memories)
Thank you!
never have I hit the like button so fast upon hearing the words "Praga Khan"
Love the way Paolo dances with his hands in the pauses! Great video! Good mood straight away! Thank you!
the energy of this music is timeless

There's a rainbow inside your mind!
Not even 1 thumbs down, shows how BIG this sound and Paolo's way of music talk are! You are gold, man! Thanks for every vid you upload!
That M1 piano cuts through anything when you play live. It's distinct tone demands to be heard, and no amount of drums or guitar can drown it out.
Glad to see the M1 finally getting its day in the sun since the 90s... such an influential synth
how does the krome from korg compares?
This is the energy that keeps many of us hopeful. Beautiful playing, thank you sir.
Thank you kindly!

Has to be one of my all time favs - Injected with a poison! Grew up on it, and even after 20+yrs, I still love that track to this day!!! :)

Absolutely love these rave-themed videos. Thanks for making these Paolo!
Hi, Mick, thank you!! Will do more and more :D
Playing Deeelite made my day. Those old tunes got my by so many times. ❤️❤️❤️
That brought back some happy memories from when I was a kid. Thanks!
OMG he's hitting a Korg M1 !!!! :D
Black Box! Thanks Paolo, you are doing a great job with these classic synth tutorials.
fantastic! I remember my first synth at around 1989 which was a Yamaha DX21..you would tear your hair out trying to get any half decent piano sound out of it. the M1 certainly raised the bar with that piano sound in 1988.
Great 80-90 mix....good times...
this channel is so fun to watch all these tracks being put together
Excellent, trip down memory lane.
Oh man, nice patterns. Nostalgic. I love the M1 sounds, one of my favorites key of all time.
Brilliant Paolo! This is making me reconsider my love/hate relationship with techno.i wish my piano teacher had me practice these patterns.

Lovely and instructive as always Paolo. I would love to hear your take on the ‘Detroit Stab’ from Innercity to Dave Clarke.
Pretty sure Innercity used a Mirage for their sounds.
Yeaaaaah!! 90's forever. I adore House/Eurodance of that years. Thanks a lot Paolo🙏
Love the dj bobo part.
Wonderful examples of the percussive nature of the chord structures
Brilliant! Love those house piano tracks. Classics!
Endless thanks sir great tutorial,i have buy the korg m1 workstation for this piano, the sound of italohouse and ukrave is here, amazing classics .
Oh, thanks! Love this sounds so much. And also love when you talk about classic house/techno/rave scene.

The Belgians did the best stabs. Paolo has done some good rave W30 vids too.
Flashback time! Love it!
Oh thank you Paolo! This brings a lot of positive memorys of my childhood.
those were the days for me and those 3 songs especially, and you broke the tracks down so great, thank's mate.
Thank you

Love the Korg M1 piano, but the sequence starting from about 8:26 wins this video. Epic!
Delightlfull Indeed ,Paulo. !!!🎹🎹🎹🎹
Great examples of the eurodance era
Just love your stuff. Sir
Only just found this. Great video. I can play some of these myself but nowhere near as fast or good. Thanks for posting.
Paolo just right on time! Fantastic
I expected Ride on time and wasn't disappointed. Amazing video, as usually.
Like Always, very instuctive! Learning a lot! Thanx for you precious work!
Black Box "Right on time" one of my favorite early 90s house piano tunez, other one is Marshall Jefferson "Move your body".
Great song selections! These demonstrations are my favorite types of videos from you. Especially love the M1 techno/house stuff like this! And 👍 for Dee-Lite!! 😊
very good. I like the way you teach.
