It is THE #1 iconic moment in fashion history from one of its greatest designers with one of the greatest models of all time. Shalom really was destined for this McQueen moment. MIND YOU -- this entire thing was UNREHEARSED. She impov'd everything.

Mmm. The unveiling of Dior’s New Look in 1947 is probably more “iconic” (how I hate the modern overuse of that word) though this is up there. The New Look shaped the course of fashion over the next decade. This is brilliant but no one was walking around with spray painted trapeze dresses for the next decade...

Even more amazing she didn't get to rehearse it. She flew in on the redeye and was simply told to stand on the platform and that it would rotate and the spray-painting would happen. She was amazing. So was he… Breathtaking. Very much missed.

I love how she initially seems to be afraid and trying to shield herself. Then when, that which she feared happens she gives herself over to it. When it is accomplished, she seems to "own" it, get off the turntable (hamster wheel?) and accept applause for the wonderful piece of art.

And he actually just copied Manel Torres. In 2010 he created this material and made videos/Ted talks about it.
"A Spanish fashion designer has developed the world's first spray-on clothing that can be worn, washed and worn again.
Manel Torres joined forces with scientists at Imperial College London to invent the spray, which forms a seamless fabric on contact with the body.
Torres took 15 minutes to spray a T-shirt onto a male model in a demonstration today, ahead of his spring/summer collection at the Science in Style fashion show in London next week."

He's a genius. Artistry from a different perspective that cannot be used in words from the model's perfect facial expression and crude painting. This was too perfect a performance to have just come out of the head of a young man in his 20s in 1997, and it is unlikely that such an impact will come out in the future.I was moved to tears for the first time when I saw this video, and this is why I still respect and love Alexander McQueen the most 12 years after his death. I loved you, i love you, i will love you Alexander mcqueen. Rest in piece.

Pure creative genius and fashion as art and performance ……the robots were balletic, graceful, menacing and rapacious. The dress was utter simplicity and perfection in its scale. The graffiti the ultimate symbol of modernity and the explosion of applause by the audience, rapturous. And of course the model was an actress, not just a model. Perfection.

Artistically one of the best if not up there with Yves Saint Laurent,Coco Chanel and Schiaparelli. He is missed and I'am totally playing the stories Lee would have made all these years. I believe that Lee thought he was done with fashion and had basically shown all he could. It was time for him to go.
