    Couple of ideas for you to consider trying.
    1. With sugar washes, try using a different type than the refined white. Brown and raw should provide a slightly different taste experience.
    2. Try doing the stripping run and instead of using water to proof it down to safe levels for the spirit run, use a fruit juice instead to add a bit of difference again to the taste experience.
    I know it's more faffing around, but it could well be worth it. Currently working on a similar setup (mango and raw sugar). So far, so good.

    I agree with Chris (see comment below) - I enjoy your videos mate - and they have become part of my regular Saturday am routine. However - I completely understand that you must scratch your head once in a while and wonder if all the headaches making the videos is worth it.
    To me it is - you're one of my favourite stilling channels - and your work, humour and creativity is very much appreciated! :-)

    I've always enjoyed your videos, and I hope you don't stop!
    Perhaps you could consider making some content about brown spirits as this seems to be what gets more viewers.
    Same with Gin, there's not enough content around recipe development and flavour pairing/balancing.
    Just my two cents.

    HS, Sorry to hear you're going to wind down the frequency of these posts. You do some great videos that I have moulded into my processes for both spirit making and flavourings. I agree with heythisisnotadrill below, gin recipe and development is a huge untapped area. Even if you do not make another video, these that you have invested your valuable time in will stand the test of time and be referenced by many of us for years and years to come. Do not under estimate the impact your making on the community. Keep on shining mate!

    I have mentioned previously that I knocked off your Kale recipe. Mixed with white sugar, distilled lazily once through a T500 (90%) I have found it to be a quick painless event. I have so much "clear" stocked up, and for the sake of variety, I'm messing around with a friggin coconut. Anyway, for me, getting a courier part-time job keeps me out of the shed and made to stay upright. Unrelated, this Ashes we our sending our Ladies and our blokes. Plenty of drinking hours ahead albeit in the early parts of the day. Step away, get some balance, and keep shining you pommy bastard. Happy days mate.

      @@highly-spirited Well I wimped out and didn't use the sodium carbonate in my run. The reason being is that the label said sodium carbonate anhydrous and I felt uncomfortable with the anhydrous party. I googled it but couldn't find a clear answer if it would be safe or not. But...this was my first mash following birdwatchers recipe with the tomato paste and bread yeast. I did my first time stripping run as well and then the spirits run. Hands down the best shine I've ever made! With my reflux still I got 190-192 proof but more important was the total lack of bad smells, or smells in general. I'll never not do a stripping run again! I am going to do a turbo yeast comparison including a stripping run just to see if that stripping run was my needed answer all along, or if its the bread yeast that really makes for a great neutral shine.

      @highly-spirited  Год назад +1

      @@chuckdock4436 i believe the anhydrous refers to ‘no water present’, BUT you did the right thing. If you’re not 100% sure, then don’t do it.

    I'll still look forward to the odd video mate. Your experiment of mixing with coke shows why most people won't use their good scotch to mix with coke. For drinks you may consume neat however and having neutral to mild flavours (Vodka, Gin, Bourbon, Southern Comfort, Limoncello, Cointreau etc) your good spirit will be perfect. For the stonger flavours like Black Sambuka you can easily get away with a single distillation of Turbo.

    put a drop or two of maple syrup and vanilla in it and you have a very cheap rum and coke. I did 4yrs. in the Navy and drank my share of "jet fuel". had to make it drinkable. I watched a couple of episodes of " The Detectorists". that's some funny shit. now that you have extra time on your hands maybe take up the hobby. I'll have you know I have a outstanding collecting of bottle caps and pull rings.

      And I’ve kept an eye out for a secondhand metal detector, but as yet, never taken the plunge. And your ‘finds’ aren’t selling the attraction very well for me to go and get one either 😂 It might have to wait as a retirement hobby though.

    I have a turbo yeast, that was put through an Air still and it has that yeasty flavour to it, ran through carbon it goes. I tried double distilling 2 bottles of the manky tail stuff that was 20% ish and it tasted way better for that. I should double distill a few of my other bottles of the strong stuff, watered back down in the still.
