This symphony is absolutely noticeable. There are no originl technical features in it which could propose Villa Lobobs as "inventor of ....'. But there is a generosity and a franckness of melodies, harmonies, orchestral combinations ....... which make it a masterpiece in itself. The most wonderful movement is probably the slow one. The symplony is rather concise. Its duration is about half an hour, whilst the 'Amerindia' (N°10) lasted about one hour (twice more).
Einfach wunderbar!
Heitor Villa-Lobos pushes us into the forests and jungles, through day and night, through rain, heat and cold. That's why his music kills me: the Amazon forest is dying and so his soul, and so mine.
"Besides"....? Sorry I don´t follow you. If you want to compare Villa Kobos with Copland, there is no such non sense in my mind. But each composer one way or the other is/was inspired by a theme or music idea of a fellow member, composer or musical trend. And sometimes the same style "blows up" within the same time frame. Ex. Brahms was clearly influenced by Schumann, as much as Schubert by Beethoven. And so what ? Brahms, Schumann, Beethoven and Schubert are masters. Identifying here an there a slight tendency or "label mark" of a composer as a direct or indirect influence of other artist is the source of art inspiration. And sorry, let´s leave "nationalisms" aside (not beside). Greetings from Portugal.
I don't hear Copland but I do hear some progressions that are very similar to the kind you hear in Howard Hanson's symphonies. Either way, this is a splendid piece.

Bela peça brasileiríssima!
Maravilha a obra desse mestre...

5:55 - Adagio
14:18 - Scherzo
15:58 - Molto allegro
A typically fine work by Villa-Lobos, with an original 'adagio' and an engaging 'scherzo'
Intense with enthusiasm and with relaxed themes.
So much fun out of this world.
Wonderful slow movement.
bom demais.
👏👏👏👏👏🇧🇷🇧🇷❤️
great
great, thanks

The Amazon is not dying! Villa-Lobos spirit is very much alive!
One health promoter
Nice job!
