Nope! Just got back from NYC a couple of weeks ago and felt very safe! Honestly, it was better than it has been in the past. They had a recent initiative to get the homeless off the streets and into shelters and many of them took the city up on it. It was also cleaner than it has been in a while ... even the subways. We had such a great time and are already planning our next trip back!

Depends on the area. Some parts of Brooklyn, Bronx, and Queens is pretty bad. And some parts of Manhattan. And Carmine's is a chain, next time go to Little Italy area for some Italian food.

I actually work inside One World Trade, all the way up on the 67th floor! Glad you paid your respects and went to the museum. I am actively avoiding the subway, mostly if I am alone. I got targeted, harassed, and attacked on the subway on the way to 1WTC about two months ago. Locals understand the safety situation in NYC right now and how it is NOT safe by any means. Please don’t give false impressions to others and deem it safe after two days, I am so glad your experience has been good and safe but please continue to be aware of your surroundings at all times. I’d put the expensive camera away on the subway and on the platform, that could be asking for trouble for sure, especially at night.

THIS 👏🏼👏🏼 as someone who actually lives in New York, you can’t pay me to get on a subway. I will drive everywhere. I don’t wear my engagement ring on the subway, if I have a bag it’s a small bag and I keep it in the front of me at all times. Always looking around me. Never standing near the platform, people will push you onto those tracks or slash you in the face in broad daylight. It is not safe. You can’t say it’s safe only after 2 days being here.

It is tough and you need to be careful like anyplace. I love NYC, maybe more than Disney because I grew up here and there is a wealth of history there. I hope you do comeback to NYC. Glad you had a good time, Kyle. For a city of its size and population, New York City really isn't any more dangerous than other major cities with questionable areas to avoid. You have to assess your surroundings and make smart decisions. Walking through a dark alleyway at night alone or even with another person isn't a smart idea no matter what place you visit. You place yourself in a position to be potentially mugged. Homeless people on trains have freaked some people out by being approached or with some weird behaviors they engage in. Look ahead, mind your business, and you should be fine. Comfort levels vary, so I know it's easier said than done for some people. I'm from Louisiana and interned out there for months and had no issues. Lived in East Harlem (El Barrio); ventured through every borough, day and night, alone and with a group, I was fine. You just learn what neighborhoods to avoid like any city in the world, and you should be fine. And FYI, gas prices in Manhattan really don't matter unless you are in the transportation industry since most of the residents have a metro card where they take the bus or train to get around. A car would be an unnecessary expense unless you live deep in Brooklyn and Queens or maybe further uptown.

I like the idea of living there more than actually living there. And, now it's way too expensive and all the grittiness is gone. 2 things I miss the most: Zabars and bagels.
I'm glad you're enjoying it. As far as bikes: Most people who live in the city don't have a car. Cars are for rich people and those from outside the city who commute in.

But something I found interesting is that Kyle did not say anything after leaving the 911 Museum. I'm wondering what his thoughts were. He of course was very young when all of this happened. Just use common sense and STARE at everyone; MAKE EYE CONTACT and people don't bother you. At 2am I stand near any other people I can find on a subway platform and start talking so they know I am "OK" "so where are you from?" and "yeah, just got out of work myself" The one time I was worried was 7am (on a Sunday) on a subway platform in Paris; I found out later there had just been a "mugging" on same spot minutes before.

Hi Kyle was there in February and found the subway ok as long as you follow the rules. Look confident at all times, don't act like a tourist IE don't get a map out or have expensive cameras or jewellery. Avoid empty carriages (they are empty for a reason) be careful late at night, especially women sadly, and finally don't go too far away from the usual tourist or busy places. Oh if someone asked for some change never ever give them any it encourages them and probably goes on alcohol.

I guarantee every comment talking about the danger of NYC is from someone who doesn't live here, and is glued to the news. I live in Flatbush Brooklyn and there have been some more anti social behavior noticed since the pandemic, but it absolutely does not feel any less safe.
If you're in Manhattan you are very rarely going to have any problems whatsoever, worst thing will be someone yelling offenses at you, in which case just head down walk away.
Also wanted to note: love your vids Kyle! Been great to cure the boredom during the pandemic and some!

I have lived in NY most of my life and the subways are very dangerous right now. You are lucky nothing happened to you. The buses are safer. Lincoln center is where the famous Metropolitan Opera House and the NYC Ballet is located. If you come back to NY you might enjoy eating at at the Old Town Bar 45 E 18th st. It was in an episode of Blue Bloods. Also the famous diner from the Seinfeld Show is at Columbia University at broadway. Tom's Restaurant. The #4 bus stops right in front of it. China town is fun. I agree with others that The Music Man would be a better choice.

The thing about NYC is you just need to be aware of your surroundings. The crime rate is statistically lower than many cities including Orlando (I’m from there and I feel way safer walking around NYC). It’s more of a perception of feeling safe because in most places you’re in your car and not interacting with people. Just don’t be a dumb tourist and get conned.

I was raised through elementary school in NYC. You have to realize your in a city of 8 to 9 million residents which consist of 5 boroughs. Chances are your not going to be experience crime in a city that large however it is a fact that crime is up and I last heard by 43% according to a national news station. So even though crime is elevated you might not notice it in a city so dense and expansive. Another thought midtown Manhattan is not a crime ridden area either just saying. Glad you enjoyed your trip.

Thank you Kyle for stating there's a misconception about NY. It's a great city and we have great people here and our food is fantastic. So glad you came for yourself so you could make your own judgements. You literally visited all the lit spots. And most of the people telling you it's dangerous are most likely not Natives. Wasn't born here just live here.

Dangerous? You should've been there in the 1970s. Yikes! Pimps, hookers, junkies, criminals all over. Tourists avoided 42nd St & Times Square. Very few areas people felt safe in. The city was very dangerous, dirty, & bankrupt, etc. All the cool hip areas you see now were either rotting dumps or war zones.

Your view on NYC is correct. If you want to find bad stuff. Homeless, mentally ill etc. They're plentiful. You'll find em. Especially around Penn and by 7th and 8th Ave. Be cautious and you'll be totally fine. Dont listen to the drama queens. NYC is the best! Glad you guys enjoyed...def stay longer your next trip.

My personal opinion on the “is NYC dangerous” topic. I’m not saying it isn’t, because that’s not necessarily true, but I do think people’s fears of the city are inflated after the events of 2020. I don’t live in NYC but do visit multiple times per year and the only times I’ve ever felt unsafe are walking around and on the subway late, late at night (like after midnight late). But even then those are few and isolated incidents. Use your common sense, keep to yourself and you’ll most likely be okay.

I’m not seeing New York’s dangerous it’s great for tourist you just have to watch yourself but there’s so much to do and you just scraped the surface you didn’t go to any museums and there’s a lot of them so there’s a lot more for you to do in New York and you did see a Broadway play you should Stay a week you always bring a smile to my face good job Kyle it’s great to see your friend Taylor and your sister Alexa I live an hour and a half from New York City so yes I’ve been there.

To be fair I’ve never thought of NY as unsafe ! We always felt safe and really explored , we didn’t however feel safe in LA until our third visit ! ( we arrived very late after driving down from SF and picked a dodgy motel, the room next door was raided by lapd at 0200, our first visit )

  • @phantomvideowatcher

Here’s the thing: “dangerous” is subjective. I felt pretty safe when I visited NYC a few times about a decade ago. However my travel companion and I had to practice common sense at night. When you come to SF, the same will apply.
The 9/11 memorial is a powerful place.
I think that place is just famous for being an amazing place to take pics. Has been famous for a long time for that.
Lincoln Center is a prominent performing arts venue.

New York City is just about as dangerous as any other major city. Even smaller cities can be very dangerous. It depends upon the moment. I heard of one RUclips influencer who had moved to Florida because he thought NYC had become too dangerous. Yet, people reminded him that even Florida and many other places throughout the world have been getting more dangerous, due to the economic effects of the global pandemics. Welcome to post-2020.

An ordinary tourist doing ordinary things is perfectly safe in New York City today - it's only those who look for iffy things that can get into trouble. And Lincoln Center is the cultural hub of the city with The Metropolitan Opera, New York Philharmonic, and other earthshaking cultural things.

Looks like a fun visit. You definitely need to stay for at least a week next time so that you can explore places that are off the beaten path. Regarding the subways, we're not using them because we are still able to work remotely and it can still be dodgy down there, especially at night. Have a great time in DC. Keeping my fingers crossed that you got to take the Acela down to Washington.
