@@alfredasiedu8512 Tell that to Franco. Most people don't really know why. But it was because of race and nationality, that it all started. Yes, they did then became a nationalist club, only allowing basque players in the club. How do I know? I spent almost a year, in Bilbao, and made some good friends, but, that doesn't means I have to say they aren't racist. Spain itself it's racist. I give you another example - look at Barcelona, and neigbouring teams story, until they finally allowed black player in their team. You get to know about places and history when you travel there. Being in Norfolk, I descovered several things about Norfolk, I didn't know. The same about Bilbao and basques.

I'm from Bilbao, and I have being a member since I was 2 years old. I got my members ID. Bringing all the race topics into play is such an American thing, here we don't care, his name is IÑAKI, he was born here so he can play for Athletic, simple. The main reason it has being mainly white is because Spain is a country with 80%+ white so what do you expect. The vast majority are going to be white by statistics. If you want racism to stop, stop making everything a race topic.

As a black person, I strongly believe Athletic Bilbao should maintain this policy for the next 200 years and beyond. Demographics will change with time and so will the race composition. To maintain identity, they should continue to stress Basque birth right as a must and local Basque upbringing where possible. They are truly the definition of developing home grown talent and that is why they have never been relegated from La Liga. There is no need for them to invest in ridiculous transfer fees for expensive players like Ronaldo, Messi etc. They are maintaining the financial health of the club with the resources they have and they will always have a supply line of Basque talent.
The only way Athletic Club will suffer relegation is if greedy individuals get into positions of power and destroy the club's culture and identity. And yes, as a black person, I don't think this policy is racist. Its probably one of the best policies ever crafted in football.

Arsenal have 3 potentially world class players; Saka, Smith-Rowe and Martinelli. 2 of them grew up knowing how prestigious Arsenal are and grew an affinity as they grew up with Arsenal. If Martinelli reaches his full potential at a time when Arsenal are hopefully a major player in Europe again but Madrid come calling he'll be off straight away just like Ronaldo did at United. Saka and Smith-rowe are more likely to want to fight to make Arsenal great. Your ignorant retort didn't deserve a response but there you go, hopefully you understand.

Since this video came out, Malcom Adu Ares has debuted for the team, making him the fourth black player to suit up in an official match. Junior Bita and Alemu Plazaola look like they can make the first team in the next 5 years. At the u16 level, theres Abdoulaye Maiga and Ardaitz Villorejo (half Afro-Colombian) and a bunch of other guys. Theres even an afro-basque kid from Bilbao who's now starring for Villarreal's youth team. By 2030, it really won't be rare at all for Athletic to field players of African or other non-Basque heritage. Its just that until 25-30 years ago, most of the immigration to the area came from poorer regions of Spain. Ernesto Valverde was a non-Basque "immigrant", for example, just one from the Extremadura region who arrived with his parents as a small kid.

Easy to explain if you were not always looking for something to get offended by. Burnley is a very small town/city with a 0.2% population. They very rarely even sign players and as the comment above you mentioned which you failed to understand, they only did sign their first non-English player in the 2000s. Also does Lennon being light skin make him less black? If that isn’t enough, they have a very dark black player named Joel mumbongo. Take a look at their roster alone, they have only 7 non-English players currently and even of those 7, about 3 are Irish. There is your answer

Like I said the town of burnley has a black population of 0.2% and rarely makes transfers so it’s much more logical than you make it out to be.

I love the idea of clubs having limitations that requite them to maintain a tie with the namesake of their local community. There's a bit race baiting in this title though - I don't think the club or region is any more racist than the rest of Europe. The short story is AB only sign players from the region, and the Basque region hasn't seen much immigration of blacks (if they limit black immigration due to one's blackness, than yes that would be racist). From my experience living there 15 years ago, I don't recall seeing many black people (especially those who could speak Basque, or Spanish for that matter), so the ratio of black players on the team vs the community seem about the same to me

The Basque Country's identity is not build about skin colour, is build arround culture, languaje and tradition, many African inmigrants speak Basque fluently..no like many Spanish inmigrants who never learn Basque..so for us if you born and rise here, you love our land, culture identity and languaje..you are one of us! And yes Willians brothers are just the beggining, in the future we se Athletic Club players whit Arabic, south American or sub saharian roots..and maybe chinese or American to..wats the problem? They are Basque..the only colours that matter are the club Colours..Whitte & Red! Thats all! And this years is a new player Alvaro Djalo, is really good! Also African father and Basque mother borm in Madrid rise in Basque Country who was playing in Portugal...so the "new" Basque reallity is here and is fine! They are Basque no matter colour

It was never about race. Also, that part talking about black people being "co-opted" into speaking Basque/Catalan and being a part of Basque/Catalan nationalism(?? Everyone, regardless of race, is expected to learn the local language. That's just common courtesy.

If Ngolo Kanté can be French & Figueiredo can be Angolan, why can't Iñaki Williams be Basque? There are black Swiss people & white Tswana people. If it walks like a duck & quacks like a duck, it's a duck.
