man, these old 70s bands CARED about the freakin notes. Those harmonies going up and up before the solo are just one example of the care those people took with music. Queen is another example.

the songs were not manufactured. they were labored over until they got them just right. there are still some groups out there that take that kind of care, but by and large it's the producers who write the songs and then create a sound for hired singers (sort of like they did with the Monkeys originally - though the Monkees could really play and sing). Today, you just have to have a great look for video (you know the old saying: "you've got a face made for radio"). Christopher Cross was a MAJOR singer songwriter, but he didn't have a face for video and he disappeared when videos came along. Plus, they just modulate the voices of people so much that there's no telling what the singers really sound like.

@@traincollector Experienced songwriters were hired to write songs for the Monkeys, such as Neil Diamond. Also, music producers can be capable songwriters but, then, I think of Ed Sheeran's recordings so, point taken

It's March 2024 and like an old friend, The Things We Do For Love, pops into my head to great effect. I think I might take a slow roll down 10cc memory lane. As a kid, I remember hearing this on the radio and then going to the library and taking out the album multiple times. I think I taped it on my Dad's stereo. Great music, great musicians, liner notes and fantastic album covers by Hipgnosis!

Lucie Poshe I would've LOVED to have seen 10CC perform! Eric Stewart used to be with Wayne Fontana & the Mindbenders in 1965 and I loved them as well! Eric did the lead vocal on "Groovy Kind of Love" because Wayne Fontana (frontman) had left the band but Stewart stepped in and sang that song. So I was crazy for Eric even before 10CC came along! I have "I'm Not in Love" in my iTunes library and I've listened to it many times!

Abusive teachers and bullying kids made school in the 70s an absolute misery for me. I learned nothing but fear and how to fake being sick.

Blessed to have been born in the 60s and enjoy a variety of music over the years. As of this moment we’re dealing with the crises of the coronavirus. The part where they say, “Feeling like a part of you is dying…” I feel like that right now. I’m a recent breast cancer survivor and over the past few days one of my friends that was a big supporter died of a diabetic coma and two friends have recently been diagnosed with cancer. And again I say, this is on top of what’s happening with this coronavirus, March 19, 2020. So I needed to hear this song to bring me back to a special place of comfort. Peace and blessings to anybody that read this comment🙏🏾💕

We took so much for granted in our youth. When I listen back I hear and appreciate how masterfully the music of that time was written, arranged and recorded. The brilliance of it was lost on my youthful naivety. Amazing vocal harmonies matched or bested only by the likes of The Beatles or Queen.

I don't think your term naivety applies to you; you just can't look back on things until time has gone by. I am 51 and can tell you I hardly listen to music on radio because really nothing has really happened musically in the last twenty years. Rap and Hip Hop was one of the biggest downfalls in the music industry and artists who could actually sing and make music were overlooked. Today music performers need back up dancers, back up singers, light shows and any other gimmick you can think of.

This song came on the radio when I was almost done and, being a big fan of 10cc during my school years, I decided to hear it out before leaving. Needless to say I didn't go home. The song gave me time to realise what I was doing, so I bought a coffee and sat there longer googling for the help I needed. I loved this song in the 70s and I really love it now.

When my first son was born I would sing to help settle him down. This was one of the songs that popped into my head and he always seemed to calm after hearing it. Tonight I played it to my fourth son. 10CC will live on forever

Excellent music from my youth! Right now I am finishing up 6 months work of xmas stockings for my grandkids and daughter-in-law. Five months of needlepointing the canvases and one month of cutting and sewing them all up. This has been my theme music to get me to the finish line. Thank you, 10CC, for this gem!

People... I'm beyond middle-aged now and many young ones will think that I am unlucky. But when you can remember this being released and played on the radio, when you owned the vinyl and lived every moment of the 70s era, well that's just damned lucky.

I remember this from when I was in the 8th grade....walking around the house singing it. At that age, you have no clue how painful love can truly be. Oh the things we do for love.
