the songs were not manufactured. they were labored over until they got them just right. there are still some groups out there that take that kind of care, but by and large it's the producers who write the songs and then create a sound for hired singers (sort of like they did with the Monkeys originally - though the Monkees could really play and sing). Today, you just have to have a great look for video (you know the old saying: "you've got a face made for radio"). Christopher Cross was a MAJOR singer songwriter, but he didn't have a face for video and he disappeared when videos came along. Plus, they just modulate the voices of people so much that there's no telling what the singers really sound like.

@@judithjohnson6203 Born in 65. If I had a time machine I’d go back and relive all my best memories! Music is my life, and all the songs I loved back then have a beautiful memory to go along with it.
Blessed to have been born in the 60s and enjoy a variety of music over the years. As of this moment we’re dealing with the crises of the coronavirus. The part where they say, “Feeling like a part of you is dying…” I feel like that right now. I’m a recent breast cancer survivor and over the past few days one of my friends that was a big supporter died of a diabetic coma and two friends have recently been diagnosed with cancer. And again I say, this is on top of what’s happening with this coronavirus, March 19, 2020. So I needed to hear this song to bring me back to a special place of comfort. Peace and blessings to anybody that read this comment🙏🏾💕
You're still here and the pain you feel will go a way, the pain is there to tell you; you're a live...this will pass it's what lies a head that will be interesting....I was in Grade School when this song was came out..."You lay your bets then you pay the price"
@Tracy Allen. Wishing you well. It is great when music helps speak about our emotions. I hadn't heard this track for at least 30-40 years, but as I listened to it, all the words came back to me without hesitation! Hoping your situation improves, best wishes to you.
Music is still just as good. Two things have changed: 1. Where to find it (direct from the musicians, not on radio or memory lane) 2. You have changed. You have lost your youth. Stop being so rude to the people who now have their youth, you jealous crotchety old fool.
We took so much for granted in our youth. When I listen back I hear and appreciate how masterfully the music of that time was written, arranged and recorded. The brilliance of it was lost on my youthful naivety. Amazing vocal harmonies matched or bested only by the likes of The Beatles or Queen.
Perfectly put. I listened to their stuff unenthusiastically as a kid - mainly because my older brother liked them and I had no choice. But now their stuff seems exquisite to me.
I don't think your term naivety applies to you; you just can't look back on things until time has gone by. I am 51 and can tell you I hardly listen to music on radio because really nothing has really happened musically in the last twenty years. Rap and Hip Hop was one of the biggest downfalls in the music industry and artists who could actually sing and make music were overlooked. Today music performers need back up dancers, back up singers, light shows and any other gimmick you can think of.
Four years ago I was sat in a cafe eating egg and chips with my only thought being that, once finished, I would go home and hang myself. This song came on the radio when I was almost done and, being a big fan of 10cc during my school years, I decided to hear it out before leaving. Needless to say I didn't go home. The song gave me time to realise what I was doing, so I bought a coffee and sat there longer googling for the help I needed. I loved this song in the 70s and I really love it now.
Glad your Still here every life has meaning much love to you sending you a hug from Michigan if you are a dad Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there...
I love 10cc, had many of their albums and CD's...the things I did for love? Married my high school sweetheart and we are still going strong after 48 years...❤
Never understood people getting made fun of for being older. Being older just means you’ve experienced more, accomplished more, have more knowledge and have done things younger generations only hope they can accomplish one day. I’m a proud Gen Xer and experienced an amazing decade growing up in the 80’s, but I absolutely LOVE music from the 60’s & 70’s Great music lives forever!
I was born in the 80s but so badly wish I was alive for the late 60s into the early 70s. That's where my heart lies, the clothes, the art, the drugs and of course the music!!
Nice memories..I was 13 years old when this song came out. Great music was made back then. 10cc, Earth, Wind & Fire, Fleetwood Mac, Commodores..Simple times🎶❤
I was 14 at that time but because English is not my first language I didn't understand the lyrics. Now I am listening this song again and it is even better because now I understand the lyrics. You are right, the music of that decade was absolutely fantastic. May I add some more? Dire Straits, Supertramp, Earth, Wind & Fire. Great music, life was indeed less complicated or it seemed at least.
My God they just CAN'T make music like this today, and "I'm not in love" is one of those songs thats just as fresh today as it was when I was a fifteen year old boy when it came out. Imagine todays music. When a song dies on the radio nowadays its just dead and gone. Fourty years later and this song still makes my feet tap and my head sway! Bless you 10 cc
Adrian Gould I'm already 58 and I blame lack of musical education in school, consequently I watch Later with Jools Holland to look for good new music.I used to watch The Old Grey Whistle Test when I was a teenager, there's too much flung together dance music as pop music now.
@@JBofBrisbane I don't know. My parents liked my music back then. Genesis, Led Zeppelin and the like all found a home at my house LOL. To this day my 73 year old mother still sings Carpet Crawlers (although she really shreds the lyrics to hell, but you gotta love her for tryin').

Excellent music from my youth! Right now I am finishing up 6 months work of xmas stockings for my grandkids and daughter-in-law. Five months of needlepointing the canvases and one month of cutting and sewing them all up. This has been my theme music to get me to the finish line. Thank you, 10CC, for this gem!

Unmatched vocals and harmonies! Honestly Queen is probably the only other capable of such excellence! Bravo 👏
I think Queen was inspired by 10cc. I think 10cc were a bit earlier than Queen. But your point is well-taken.
Agreed!
I saw Journey twice, 1981 and 1983 tours. Their harmonies were unbelievable. Ambrosia is another band with fantastic vocalists. Too many others to mention the more I think about it.
@ Yes there are many and then their is the best..The only thing Journey had was Mr. Steve Perry. Once he left so did the great music and harmonies!
@jayman860 So true!
Cooking all the meals the last six months for my wife with cancer. The title of this song came up in conversation.
Just one more of the Things We Do for Love.
Kevin Cogan that is so sweet.. blessings to you and your wife!!! 😉
Rip 🙁
Hope she is doing well
Awesome man. You rock!
thinchrisful The FAQ kind of question is that?, come on man don’t be an ass.
Eric.....what a versatile guy. Lead vocals plus playing guitar AND keyboard all at the same time.
School days back in the 70's, great time for music and being alive,...

Born in 64 too. Best music
1964 baby to. We're heading for the big 60!
JohnnyBGood11 ... Yes, thank you. I too was in grade school when this song came out. Here’s to better days ahead🥂🙏🏾💞
I hope you have a good treatment clinician. You're quite young still.
@Tracy Allen. Wishing you well. It is great when music helps speak about our emotions. I hadn't heard this track for at least 30-40 years, but as I listened to it, all the words came back to me without hesitation! Hoping your situation improves, best wishes to you.
Music is still just as good. Two things have changed:
1. Where to find it (direct from the musicians, not on radio or memory lane)
2. You have changed. You have lost your youth.
Stop being so rude to the people who now have their youth, you jealous crotchety old fool.
10CC had so much talent…totally brilliant
We took so much for granted in our youth. When I listen back I hear and appreciate how masterfully the music of that time was written, arranged and recorded. The brilliance of it was lost on my youthful naivety. Amazing vocal harmonies matched or bested only by the likes of The Beatles or Queen.
David U need a spanking BOY???
Go and eat shit david
@@bms8360 Don't feed the Trolls!
Glad you decided to stay longer😊
Very inspiring story.
Glad your Still here every life has meaning much love to you sending you a hug from Michigan if you are a dad Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there...
Oh wow, the Amazing power certain music has on us! So glad this came on the radio at a time when you needed it the most ❤
So glad you decided to stay! Hugs to you! 🤗🤗🥰🥰🙏🙏
I love 10cc, had many of their albums and CD's...the things I did for love? Married my high school sweetheart and we are still going strong after 48 years...❤

This tune really brings back the '70s for me. I'm glad it has so many views.
And they make fun of us boomers, we had the best time ever the70s. Best music, i feel so blessed to have grown up in such an amazing era!
Absolutely!!!!
is there anything else or is music the determiner of "the best time ever"?
I guess im technically a millennial but yeah I agree atleast with music. 90s was kinda cool too tho
Never understood people getting made fun of for being older.
Being older just means you’ve experienced more, accomplished more, have more knowledge and have done things younger generations only hope they can accomplish one day.
I’m a proud Gen Xer and experienced an amazing decade growing up in the 80’s, but I absolutely LOVE music from the 60’s & 70’s
Great music lives forever!

A great, great song...great lyrics, production, look, everything...another eternal hit from the 70's...
I can remember being in the back seat of my mom's car as a really little kid hearing this and other songs from the 70's. Greatest era ever.
Haven't heard or thought of this song in decades! I lay down tonight to sleep and this song pops into my head! So grateful for RUclips!!
This song popped into my head after decades. Had to come take a listen.
You looked at Life in Netflix too, eh?
I know the feeling.
I recently found my old 45s in my mother's house. This was one of them. Oh the 70s were the best.
So lucky I was in this generation so many classic songs and bands it was a great time to be in
My God they just CAN'T make music like this today, and "I'm not in love" is one of those songs thats just as fresh today as it was when I was a fifteen year old boy when it came out. Imagine todays music. When a song dies on the radio nowadays its just dead and gone. Fourty years later and this song still makes my feet tap and my head sway! Bless you 10 cc
Two words that song - absolutely fantastic - the harmonies are beautiful
The whole "oooh you make me love you" bit is awe inspiring, literal chills. Great use of tambourine too.
I am 58 in August this year and it really takes me way back when music was great not the shit they turn out today.
I'm sure my folks said the same thing the first time they heard Suzi Quatro. Funny how we become our parents, isn't it?
Adrian Gould I'm already 58 and I blame lack of musical education in school, consequently I watch Later with Jools Holland to look for good new music.I used to watch The Old Grey Whistle Test when I was a teenager, there's too much flung together dance music as pop music now.
@@JBofBrisbane I don't know. My parents liked my music back then. Genesis, Led Zeppelin and the like all found a home at my house LOL. To this day my 73 year old mother still sings Carpet Crawlers (although she really shreds the lyrics to hell, but you gotta love her for tryin').

Such a great band from the 70's, who released some unforgettable classics, and arguably the greatest love song/ballad ever with I'm Not In Love!

When my first son was born I would sing to help settle him down. This was one of the songs that popped into my head and he always seemed to calm after hearing it. Tonight I played it to my fourth son. 10CC will live on forever

Wow, those are big shoes too fit in.... I'll agree!
People... I'm beyond middle-aged now and many young ones will think that I am unlucky. But when you can remember this being released and played on the radio, when you owned the vinyl and lived every moment of the 70s era, well that's just damned lucky.
Just about the perfect pop song
One of the best songs of the 70s.
I remember this from when I was in the 8th grade....walking around the house singing it. At that age, you have no clue how painful love can truly be. Oh the things we do for love.
Was thinking the same thing. I was in 3rd grade singing this..had no clue how complicated life could be.
This song is absolute genius.
This is simply "off the charts" musically! You can hear the Beatles all over this one! Ain't nuttin' wrong with that!!
