    For the 50 year old guys out there...tell them you got alot of experience new and old experiences but you are highly adaptive seeing what trends and ways of troubleshooting works and what doesn't. So whatever comes up in the job if successful you'll be able to hit the ground running and progress quicker making the probationary period more enjoyable and less stressful for them.

    This is tremendously helpful! I wasn't sure until now but I finally realized why I wasn't offered a job a while ago using the STAR interview technique. I focused too much on the past stories and I left too much room for doubt about my past experience being applicable.

    Wins EVERY time - sounds unlikely; however, unexpected failure when everything looked so "blue sky" is a question I thought no one bothered to ask. This video addresses exactly that and provides not only an answer but even offers hope that there is a practical solution.

    OT: It occurs to me that the question "tell me about your biggest failure" is a great chance to do some damage control, and set a positive narrative If you've been fired from a recent job or have reason to believe that an employer is likely to give you a negative or lukewarm reference, that would be a good target for your answer. So you might say, "my biggest recent failure was during my last position when I thought things were going well, but my employer and I were not on the same page. Even though my immediate supervisors were happy with my work, my employer felt differently and I didn't see it coming. I learned the importance of good communication and checking in with my employer to be sure I am focused on the same priorities as her." (Or whatever positive spin you can put on your situation, including what you learned)

    I think this session pinpointed the most important tip during interviews. Thanks for so much Andrew. I’m thinking now how I can simulate the situation to the potential interviewer in Germany using my lifetime experience in Asia. It’s quite tough. Would you be able to give me a piece of advice that can stimulate my ideas?

  • @TheBushyhead
    @TheBushyhead 6 лет назад +3

    Hi Andy! I wanted to give you a background on my current situation. I have applied for a job and they require 5 years work experience and/or college education. I have 4 years of solid work experience but the company is insisting I have 5 years before they move me forward. I'm heartbroken because I had gotten so far in the interview process, met the manager and finished the background check, but its not looking sunny! They love me at the company, the recruiter gave me stellar reviews and the manager is constantly checking in. I'm mostly upset because I was always told great companies will hire you regardless. MY question is, would it be appropriate to ask the recruiter if they can make an exception for me? would this tarnish my good standing? Also wanted to add - I’ve been in the process now for 3 months with this particular company

    • @andylacivita
      @andylacivita  6 лет назад +6

      Jasmine, this is a great story and thanks for sharing. Any company that wouldn't make an exception for you--assuming you aced the interview, are very qualified to do the job and so forth--is NOT worth your time. Any company that's that rigid is NOT a good company. Imagine what it would be like to work there..."Sorry, we can promote you because you haven't been in this position of 2 years, and so on." That are giving you a preview into what they're like. Also, the fact that you've been engaged for 3 months tells you something too...and it's not good. Move on and focus on other companies. If this company really wants you, they'll call you back.

      Also, I suggest you watch "What Employers Look for in a Resume" and get Andy's resume template.

    Wow, thats quite the pronounced Northern Cities/Great Lakes accent you have there. Lets see ... Central Michigan, is it? Maybe Lansing?

    "One Tip that Wins Every Job Interview" Video Length: 1hr 14min

      The teaching portion was less than 20 minutes and I spent an hour answering their questions. But, if you want the tip in 3 seconds, shift the discussion to the future. If you know exactly how to do that, there’s no need to watch the video. Hope that saved you time!

    I interviewed with two people that were 20 years younger than me. I look good for my age! How do I combat the ageism? I projected energy but I am unsure???

      @andylacivita  6 лет назад +1

      Toreh Bahrami Hi Toreh, I would definitely check out my video called how to overcome age discrimination in an interview. Energy is on way, but there are two other tactics you need to employ as well!
