Appreciate your channel man, really great to see you master run some of the all time games that I grew upwith. Actually just got done watching Festers Quest and you posted this
We paved the way for guys like Arcus. I don't know of a single person back in the 80's to have played this well other than the devs/programmers. Most of these tricks were not known and took decades to figure out and work out. I played this game for years and years when I was younger. Finally beat the game after years of playing. I am guessing if I was able to take the knowledge of this video and take it back in time and study each frame by movement, we could do this. Granted it would take lots of memory and skill. We have the blue prints all laid out before us. Trying to remember all the moves is akin to playing guitar or any other instrument. Arcus gets into this zen like state and plays like a pro! The rest of us have to spend months upon months mastering these tricks and then there is the luck of the draw on many of these speed runs. But still, imagine how impressive this would have been back in the 80's to pull this off?
Dude beat the game in 1 freakin guy! The only way I beat this game was the classic Konomi code and got those 30 lives. However we didn't know about safe stand zones. Pause tricks and great Bzzzzzztzz's. I don't think just anyone could this even with all the knowledge of the videos. Might be able to help someone beat the game without cheating. But this guy is top notch pro!
Saw the Summoning Salt doc on the history of the speed records for this game. Crazy how fast some of the speedrunners were able to tap the trigger button.
As a kid I beat this game more times than I remember but never at that speed!! Amazing! Watching your timing and technique makes me want to try a few runs on the old NES.
The way he handles the second half of stage 6 without the invincibility icon is incredible! The whole run was great, but that part in particular was amazing.
Keep truckin bud you will be big someday. Start putting ASMR in your titles I bet your sub count doubles. This is literally the best asmr I fall asleep to you every night, you have such a calming voice and demeanor. You've become a comfort for me it's very peculiar
The world needs more Arcus RUclips uploads. The only way we will achieve world peace is more Arcus RUclips uploads. Arcus you hold the power in your hands.
Another impressive run, Arcus. I've played this game on and off for over 30 years now - I remember Friday night sessions with my best friend back in the 4th grade, 1990. I still play it to this day.
You are a legend, you make it look soooo easy!!! Btw you are the only person in the speed run community I can tolerate... the rest are are some serious socially awkward things I’ve ever met
I still have the NES cart, One of my all time fav games only it was probotector here in the UK - the music is awesome! We used to play 2 player with the 30 lives cheat and die SO many times! Arcus you the man!
00:00 isn't this the place where the level end skip was found but hasn't been able to be duplicated yet? I saw a video by the designer of one of the Mikey games and he said the programmers will program level warps when their game crashes under certain circumstances to get past the "certification" process to get published.
This is maybe a dumb question. But what's the trick with the crazy turbo shooting on bosses where Arcus holds the controller in a weird way. Like what action is he/are you doing to get it to shoot so fast?
I loved this game back in the day and I still love it now. I'm in awe of how quickly he shoots his weapons. No matter how quickly I mash the buttons, I can never shoot that quickly. Noob question, but how does he do it? Especially against the bosses.
You know you have some skills when you can make games like this look easy. Fly through them with no fear always moving and always shooting. Knowing where to stand and where to bzzztzz correctly. Where to pause and where to drop stop and roll! You did this with 1 freakin guy. Pretty amazing! We all did this together! As back in the 80's as a kid I was paving the way for guys like you Arcus to come along and show us all how it is done! To be fair, we didn't know any tricks other than the code to get those 30 lives. And still some folks couldn't beat the game. It was a testament to being able to beat the game on just 3 guys. No easy feat back in the 80's. And no easy feat today. Even in light of being able to study these videos move for move. There is still luck of the draw to be had.
No shit lol. Without the code the game was hard. I was born in 80 NES it was the first game on the system I got besides Mario/Duckhunt packin back in 87 Love the system to death bc of games like Metroid, Legend of Zelda, Mike Tyson's Punch Out,RC Pro Am, Bionic Commando, and Contra to name a few. System had a lot of classics but back then you had to get good at everything that you had because it seemed like you only got a game at Christmas and on your birthday at least at my household anyway lol.. Thank goodness there was a video store owned by family down the road that would let you rent NES games for $3.99 for 5 days it was a blessing for sure.
Who determines when the timer starts for these runs? I always figured it would be when you press start. I am always skeptical of emulation with these. Would like to see speedruns use real hardware.
Glad to see Arcus shocks himself on the base stages too. Don’t know if he does it as a strat or just for fun, but I did this ever since I was a kid because it made the guy look like he was raising his hand to answer a question in class lol
Contra is a weird one... if you’re good at it you practically do a speed run by default. Even as a kid it only took me 15 minutes since there’s basically just one way to go through each level. Was fun watching you shave it down to the bare minimum time with confident play style though! I saw a few tricks I will try next time.
He is the Bob Ross of Nes Speedruns, i mean that in a good way! Love to Bob Ross R.I.P
This guy his such a unique and relaxing personality. I love it.
Me: Can't beat this game without cheats to save my life.
Arcus during a blazing speedrun: "It's a little warm in Tucson today."
yeah i was so bad i would even use up my first 30 lives before continue
I love how he always says "WE did it" and not "I did it". It feels like we are all part of this !
I just realized that! The internet doesn’t deserve someone as awesome as Arcus lol
Yes, we are!
ikr!!! love it!!!
Arcus looks like that cool uncle that gives you beer.
Especially if it’s your first
That's funny bc my uncle looked just like him - hat and all. And he drank a lot of Busch beer in the '80s. He passed away 15 years ago.
@@robloxvids2233 Sorry to hear that bro
@@robloxvids2233 Did he pass you a busch?
Except arcus would give you coffee instead of alcohol because he is that wholesome.
The chill atmosphere the skill and the genuine love of the game is what brings me back to these videos.
Contra is a classic NES game. And clunk. Good Clunk.
THAT was a good clunk.
This is an Arcus speed-run that I simply can't pass up. Lots of fun memories playing this game two player in grade school.
Amazing speed run thanks for the content Arcus!
Arcus and Contra: When Legends Collide...
Appreciate your channel man, really great to see you master run some of the all time games that I grew upwith. Actually just got done watching Festers Quest and you posted this
Your runs are always so compelling. You are always a joy to watch.
Wish I had you as a childhood friend, then maybe I would have beaten some of these games when I was a kid

I never knew I needed a something so bad until I got Arcus playing Contra.

@ZCS 🤣
It's not just about mashing, it's about mashing in rhythm to keep max bullets out.
@@TheJadeFist I know, but some of the speedrunners for contra have been clocked at 15+ button presses per second.
Thank you arcus, very cool!
As a kid I beat this game more times than I remember but never at that speed!! Amazing! Watching your timing and technique makes me want to try a few runs on the old NES.
That's intense! Amazing as always, Arcus! mash mash mash, and... Klunk! 🔥
Old Konami Games have such a good sound on those old cartridges! Amazing to watch this good job!
The way he handles the second half of stage 6 without the invincibility icon is incredible! The whole run was great, but that part in particular was amazing.
This opening is unironically hilarious. Amazing how massive your comedic talent it

Great run. Hard to believe it's even possible to shave another 35 seconds off of this...
This is by far the most Arcus video I’ve ever seen.
How can you not love this dude.
Fantastic run Arcus!!!!!! One of my favorite NES games. My personal best is 12:23
Dude your the best NES player I've ever seen play these games you have posted!!! With video proof at that...
My Saturday night is now complete! I always look forward to Arcus!
I just recently found this channel wow this guys speed runs are amazing
Lol the crunch from the arcus treats always cracks me up.
Awesome run! Best I've ever seen!
Arcus a capella is one of the reasons I keep coming back to this video.
Great run, this is my 2nd favorite NES game of all time. Anyone know why he quickly pauses at 8:10? Is it to reset the cycle of the flames?
Yes.
Ive gone thru this game almost 10 times in a row without dying. Love contra! :)
Arcus always gets a like from me before the video even starts playing;)
Same! He is my ASMR!
So much fun to watch. You make it look easy.
Love these kind of speedruns, no glitches just pure skill.
I never played this game before. Is it hard? Seems like he didn’t get hit once. 🤔
I was wondering when the NIntendo Killah was gonna do Contra!
you are such a pleasant delight, which is very much what I need right now. thank you
I still have the NES cart, One of my all time fav games only it was probotector here in the UK - the music is awesome! We used to play 2 player with the 30 lives cheat and die SO many times! Arcus you the man!
The Bob Ross of gamers. Here's a happy little clunk.

Just crushed my childhood in 10 mins! Like the Bob Ross of speed runs.
This dude is straight beast at old nes. Its insane to watch.
"We need you to destroy the vile Red Falcon and save the universe!"
"No problem. Give me like ten minutes."
Was hot in PHX today too... im up near Cave Creek. Not looking forward to the oven months...
Great run. Also always glad to come across a fellow Arizonan. And we both use the same hypertap technique.
My man Arcus is at it again. Heck yeah! U just made my day.
Мы такого парня в детстве звали в гости, чтобы он нам прошёл трудные уровни. А он даже не вспотел, прошёл всю контру
Just casually beats classic NES games real quick that you never could beat
Me: well that looks easy
*Also me* : can't get through level one without dying
This is maybe a dumb question. But what's the trick with the crazy turbo shooting on bosses where Arcus holds the controller in a weird way. Like what action is he/are you doing to get it to shoot so fast?
Is like a 🐈 treat but for humans...crunch..crunch...Mmmm...good boy Arcus - Arcus
WHAT a good boy, Arcus. GG sir!

Love how he's so chill about it
Goodnthing he got that extra man on the last level!

You got me hooked on Toblerone with your zelda run
Arcus, stopping alien invasions in just north of 10 minutes like a boss.
Arcus snacks will now be my official gaming snack! Clunk...good clunk!
I had like 2 years of my childhood occupied by what you just completed in 2:45 min
We in there! Whoooo ahhhh made it thruuuu ahhh!!!
You’re the MAN Arcus man
Straight gangster.
Most brutal NES code.
Arcus: Hold my human cat treats. 😂😂
What a guy.
What a channel.
Arcus looks like that type of guy that's probably a world record speed runner or something...
@ZCS I'm guessing my thick layer of sarcasm didn't digest with you...
Are you going to the Tucson Arizona Gem Show 2021?
Arcus is the Bob Ross of speedrunning
Arcus treats! Get them while they last! If you don’t get them, you won’t be able to mash, mash, mash big time!
🤠😂
@@HIROsilverstar 😂
Ah my main man Arcus! I love your videos so much. When do you stream?
Anyways, I'd love to get to see whole streams if I only knew where and when.
I have to check it out myself further; however, it's likely on the Twitch app and searching for Arcus channel there
Arcus streams on Twitch every Monday through Friday starting at 3pm EST.
wow! this was my all time favorite game growing up! I was never this good LOL

We did it !! Arcus the humble speedrunner cowboy. 👨🌾
I can’t believe this is the same guy who was featured in summoning salts video as the best speed runner for that nes ninja game.
This guy is the "Bob Ross" video gamer.
You are awesome Arcus. Can you share in video your nes setup?
Just found this guy, and he has a great vibe.
Great run. I just PB'd with a 1254 a few days ago. Are you going for WR?
is there any situation you would want anything other than spread shot in this game?
Here’s a question. I was able to beat this game but only when using a controller with a turbo. Is that considered cheating?
@Artem Andreev same...
One of my favorite all time games... Any chance you can start speed running Kabuki: Quantum Fighter ?
Who determines when the timer starts for these runs? I always figured it would be when you press start.

Arcus is The Dude of speedruns... but that's just like.. my opinion, man
Liked, Subscribed, ... CLUNK

Nice work man. Well played.
I feel like you could be a Zack Galifianakis character. It's fun watching someone beat all these games I was too terrible to beat as a kid.
Those splits have a very nice gradient from red to green.
The snow level is the greatest video game song of all time.
Rygar the cave soundtrack in my opinion
No way dude how'd you run an extension cable all the way out to Chichen Itza?
Good job
Dude, that stage 6 was sick AF!
*"What a good boy, Arcus."*
😂😂
This guy speed runs literally every NES game.
