They’re amazing feats of engineering. Ground wasp nests are huge mostly under the ground. I love this Ben.

Yeah and pretty agressive🫣 Mostly they stay arround the nest in 5m radius… when disturbed. I hate Them all!!
But have to give Them credit for taking all that soil out, when making Ground nests!!
Wasps are actually important, and Can Take thousands of 🦟🪰Out every day !

Wasp nests like that aren't just a paper LIKE material, they're ACTUALLY made of paper. The wasps chew wood pulp into a paste and apply it in layers to their nests. Wood pulp broken or cut (chewed) into short fibers mixed with water laid in a thin layer is how WE make paper, well one kind of paper anyway..

!!!!!! oh this is a TREAT to see, i love wasps so much!!
fun fact: unless you or someone else peeled a bunch of grey papery material (envelope) off the side of the nest (unlikely, given how it's shaped), this is very probably the old nest of some european paper wasps! most likely a colony that overwintered one or two years, given by how many nest cells there are; european paper wasps tend to have under a hundred wasps in a nest, and this is enough cells for probably closer to 300!!

Wasp nests are made from a combination of materials, primarily:
    1. _Plant fibers_: Wasps collect and chew on plant fibers, such as wood, bark, and stems, to create a pulp.
    2. _Saliva_: Wasps mix their saliva with the plant fibers to create a sticky substance.
    3. _Water_: Wasps add water to the mixture to create a workable paste.
    4. _Soil and minerals_: Some wasp species may also add soil, minerals, or other materials to the nest for strength and stability.
The wasps then shape this mixture into the desired form, using their mandibles and legs to construct the nest. The nest is typically paper-like in texture and can be:
    - _Umbrella-shaped_ (e.g., paper wasps)
    - _Ball-shaped_ (e.g., yellowjackets)
    - _Cylinder-shaped_ (e.g., mud daubers)
The nest material is incredibly durable and can withstand various environmental conditions. Wasps may also reuse and repair existing nests, adding new material as needed.
    Some interesting facts:
    - Wasp nests can be incredibly strong, with some species creating nests that can hold up to 100 times their own body weight!
    - The unique mixture of plant fibers and saliva makes wasp nests resistant to decay and insect attacks.
    - Wasps are skilled engineers, with some species creating complex nests featuring separate compartments for eggs, larvae, and food storage!
If wasps had a lathe and resin they would take over the world!

There is one thing that you should have done....the wasp that you found in the nest should have been used. You should have suspended it a half inch or so above the nest as if it were going to enter the nest.....suspended animation.
A thought for the next time.
Also, underneath, you should have carved a small concave area for a finger to release the battery hatch easier.
    Overall, very cool!!!
