I've become totally fascinated with this aircraft. Looks like an OV-10 Bronco and a Skyraider had a baby.
I love the concept of modern technology thrown in a turbo-prop to make a low cost light attack aircraft. In essence not so different from what was used way back in ww2, but with modern sensors, avionics, computer-guided weaponry, kevlar internal armor. It's a thing of beauty.

But when is necessary to use the A - 10 powerful cannon, only A - 10 can realize the mission.

Most of the super tucanos were flown to Uzbekistan by their pilots to escape the Taliban. One crashed with a Uzbekistan MIG-29 and both the tucano and mig crashed but the pilots were unhurt. Uzbekistan having good relationships with US said it will return the aircraft to the US.
Edit: it appears Uzbekistan has 10 of the 19 super tocanos from former afgan airforce. The Taliban seems to have captured one and the other 8 were destroyed by ground crews before capture.

Some pictures tell otherwise, with Taliban fighters posing on captured Afghan Super Tucanos and Mil 24 Hinds... Some pilots were held hostage also.

Afghanistan had 19 super tucanos and Uzbekistan has stated that 22 fixed wing aircraft and 24 helicopters fled to its country. Most likely the aircraft flown to Uzbekistan were a mix of tucanos, Cessna caravans and piliatus PC-12.
Most likely the Taliban doesn't have many if any pilots captured. As Afghanistan airforce already had a massive shortage of pilots and was using mostly foreign contractors. The Taliban has put out a call for afghan pilots to return. What appears to have happened is all the afghan pilots fled with their aircraft and those flown by the contractors were abandoned.
@Intergalactic Dust Bunny most likely they will be donated to US allies who already operate these aircraft. Probably Columbia or Nigeria as these 2 countries already has US bought Tucanos. The US airforce wouldn't want them as it already doesn't want the A-10. Airforce thinking is that it's budget should be spent on air superiority and precision bombing. Close air support is to be conducted by helicopters of the army and marines. They been trying to kill the A-10 for years now.
@@turkey2003 that's a very good point. Terrorists don't deserve an air force and they don't even deserve pilots. More likely, nearby Pakistan or Iran would send trainers for them to have an air force again... or even China and Russia since they have vested economic and strategic interest in Afghanistan's untapped resources.

I remember way back when I was working at CFB Winnipeg, this or its sister aircraft was being considered as the RCAF's new primary trainer. It was minus 25 degrees C when they rolled out the aircraft from the nice warm hanger, 30 minuets later four Brazilians and their aircraft shivered their way back into that nice warm hanger, the engine in the plane just refused to lite.
Don't blame it ... -25 is no place for anyone or thing ..... esp from Brazil !!

Besides Americans were planning to leave for many years (and should not have stayed there in the first place), Trump just didn't manage to do that while in office. What nobody expected was how easy ANA will give up, there is nothing one can do, when people are not willing to fight for their country.
My country also lost some soldiers in Afghanistan, since we are US allies and participated in that campaign.
Too bad these are not in operation anymore, I would love to see them strafing ground targets like WWII fighters.

На мой взгляд, это идеальная техника для мелких боевых операций в джунглях, и совершенно неподходящая для работы в пустыне и в горах, когда современное стрелковое оружие и ПВО могут разнести всю боевую формацию, которая будет беззащитной в открытом небе.

A HAWKER Sea FURY COULD STRAFE a Convoy with 50 cal and rockets at 650 kilometers per hour and do 788 kilometers per hour at high altitude. TALIBAN DEFENSEs are for slow moving vehicles of 250 kilometers per hour or less ike attack helicopters.

All the real people out there in Afghanistan be it men women and children everyone are telling how basic human rights are violated through various platforms and media.. recently saw a video where a number of women reporters were sent back from their work places and told to be at home..their freedom to go out have been scrapped..burkha is made compulsory.. education will be done only on basis of madarsa standards..under age girls are forced to marry Taliban terrorists and make them a factory of manufacturing babies..and you are saying all these are just lies and propaganda..widen your thoughts..you are the one who is believing in Taliban propaganda..i am telling what is been shown and the real talks.. recently head of police forces in Afghanistan was killed brutally in public by shooting him multiple times and the video has gone viral.. don't say you see nothing..hear nothing..a snake is a snake no matter how many times it sheds it's skin..just think about the coming generation and current generation of children in Afghanistan how they will be affected by all these violence and seeing people with guns everywhere and forced to join them at early age
