    Hatamoto is not an honorific title. It is a high Samurai rank as others have pointed out. To hold that rank in Japan the person must come from a Samurai family or be Samurai. Blackthorne is neither. To give his rank merit and honor if you will with substance and not become a joke. Fuji was made his consort (wife). Fuji is from a well known Samurai family. By them marrying it therefore adds legitimacy to his title.

    Fujiko at no Time, was serving for Torranaga. She surely obeyed not to do Harakiri, ordered by Her Father in Law. But i think you should know, after the Half Year with Blackthorne, She gets Her Will. She didnt obey, She traded. Like She wanted from the Getgo, White Tabbis, short Sword, End. And see Son and Idiot of an Man again. He better gets covered wherever his Soul is hanging out now.
    I remember in the Book, Mariko were making Fun of Fujiko Chan in her Mind, bcs the Swords are been shamed by Her man, with his dumb Actions, and so arent really still worthy Family Idols. And on Top, She disrespects Fuji`s dead Father, an in Her Eyes noble but idiotic Samurai, who did step into an obviously Trap to get His Family wiped out. Ah the Book! Even between Fuji and Mariko its more like an Chessgame of 2 Combattants, even they giggle together all the Way. I dont want to spoiler , it depends how True to the Book they stand, how Fuji goes along in the Story this Time. For Example, They already did alter the Training of the Regiment in big Facts opposite to the Book. Surely not for the Worse, i like it.
    The Actress of Fuji is great, i agree with you all:) She really let the Figure come to Life, much more then the Lady back in the 80`s.

At least thats what John thinks, i dont remember at that point if we did get an insight of Her mindest to this Point. Fun Fact: Blackthorne one Time compare His Wife in England and him beeing private like the pairing of Rabbits, comparing it to play the Game of Clouds and heaven even with Fujiko, and even more idealized same Happening with Mariko. I don't remember the book explicitly saying that John slept with Fujiko. However, at some point Mariko told him he had a duty to give Fujiko a son, and John seemed to agree. They did definitely grow fond of each other, but in the book Fujiko still insisted to follow her original plans, though we did not explicitly "witness" it, as the book ended before that happened, with Toranaga planning to find a new wife for John.

      @Lollygagger-k4p 10 месяцев назад +3

      The original was good - for made for TV series at th etime. But it had horrible musical score, and Chamberlain always over-acted his scenes. The Japanese cast was great.
      TV production has come a long, long way. That's why the best series only produce a few episodes per year - cost. Vikings, GOT, Marco Polo, Band of Brothers, The Pacific...series like that are very detailed and expensive, and the result is much better than the 1970's. Many scenes in the original Shogun looked like they could have been an episode of Matlock, or Murder She Wrote. The canned intro and outro music between scenes didn't help. It's the quality of Filmography that has put realism into productions.

    • @misterRDF
      @misterRDF 10 месяцев назад +2

      @@Lollygagger-k4p Really, it doesn't change my point that much. Production values are higher nowadays, sure, but I prefer the pacing, acting, and closer story beats to the books, and the characters are more likable. I disagree that Chamberlin over-acted, but even if he did, his character wasn't treated like a buffoon in that version. Mariko is basically unlikable in this one, totally missing her gentle strength, especially after the beating scene, etc., etc., etc.

    • @forddon
      @forddon 10 месяцев назад +2

      The original used the innovative gimmick of not having subtitles, but as a result the Japanese side of the story was mostly missing. This production is trying to present the Japanese story, but they seem to mangle every major plot point. As far as modern production values...Most of the scenes in the original were in bright sunlight, most of the same scenes in the new version are in fog or rain, CGI works better in fog.

    • @misterRDF
      @misterRDF 10 месяцев назад +2

      @@forddon Regardless, the personal interactions are just better. In particular, that they took out what Mariko (after her husband beat her)said in the new version really sucked. Both in the book and the original series, it was perfect. This version broke character badly and was just bad.
