Rules:
- This is a low level run of zombero's hardtype mod: www.romhacking...
- The aim is to keep XP gain as low as possible without affecting my sanity.
- Hard mode, obviously
- No stat boosting items
- All other game mechanics are fair game!
Last part. It's been smooth sailing for a while but these ones really up the ante... getting ambushed by any of these while you're dungeon crawling is no fun at all, especially in a LL run.
FIFTH KALPA
Pixie? (0:18) - Hoo boy, this is another fun one. If you lower her stats not only does she auto-Dekunda but she can even go full Mot and cast Beast Eye multiple times, so it's best not to bother. Best bet is to bounce her ridiculous Zio spells back in her face. She can use Mediarahan when she's on low HP so try to take her out quickly (didn't check the exact threshold for this).
Beelzebub (3:04) - This mod is such a meme. The Mothmans are kind of a non-issue as long as Panic Voice doesn't mess you up, and they actually give you some time to set up some buffs. The main threat from Beelzebub is Primal Force, which he didn't even use here. Otherwise he's pretty tame, and with this setup he loses his turn whenever he casts force/elec magic.
WORLD MAP #7
Garuda (6:55) - Seems like it might be intimidating with that first round (Dragon Eye AND Beast Eye?) but is destroyed by force repel. Not much HP compared to the other FKEs at this point in the game either.
TOWER OF KAGUTSUCHI
Ongyo-Ki (8:58) - Seems to be scripted so he doesn't use Heat Riser every round, thankfully. Keep up with his buffs and keep Tetraja up.
*After so long without fusing, I finally caved and made some bespoke sets for these last few battles, which are definitely the most threatening in the game*
Michael (12:26) - It's all about surviving that first round +3 Megidolaon/Deathbound. Debilitate isn't quite enough here, ideally you want something with War Cry or Dekaja. He seems to give up on casting Tarukaja after a few rounds which makes him a lot less threatening.
Shiva (15:17) - Yeesh, this is a pain. He always opens with Allure but never uses it after that, which makes it safe to switch Wu in. From round 2 onwards he will cast Antichthon twice before choosing other offensive moves. Good job I had all those Luster Candies. The main risk here is double Antichthon on Demi followed by Megidolaon, which should be unlikely but... cturne.
BANDOU SHRINE
Vishnu (19:50) - Even with full buffs Last Word can deal over 600 damage, but he never uses it on his first turn. Having fire and expel repel can make him lose his turns before he can cast it. Phys drain would be good as well but I didn't have it on this file.
That's the end folks. Yep. I will definitely never touch Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne again. No siree. It's over. No more.

Quite interesting how Zombero decided to put Endure on so many FKE but not Enduring Soul (lowering the initial hp value while doing so, it gives an overall bigger bulk and it feels more threatening)
Yeah; I'm kind of surprised that this mod doesn't even have Enduring Soul at all; would've been a useful skill for Demi-fiend, even if it was only available for him and some (mini)bosses/FKEs (since you can refresh demons' Endure by swapping them out and back in).
@@steam-powereddolphin5449 Ha, yeah, Enduring Soul would be so exploitable as an ally skill in this. I believe the skillsets for most of these encounters are just based off their learnsets when you get them as allies anyways.

How does Unshaken Will work in Hard Type? Does it make the target less susceptible to Aliment attacks and maybe instant kill attacks? If so, does that mean theoretically God's Bow can 1-shot Jack Frost?, Pixie?, and Ongyo-Ki, assuming the skill still functions the same way as Vanilla?
Also something to note, at 1:06 Pixie? cast Makarakarn using her first Beast Eye turn, then cast Maziodyne which bounced back doing damage to herself. It seems that Makarakarn in Nocturne only take effect after the turn swap.
Re: Unshaken Will - yes, that is how it works (75% resistance to Expel, Death & Ailments) but God's Bow has also been nerfed to be a mega damage attack. The way damaging light affinity spells work in Nocturne has always been disappointing and unfortunately hardtype does little to change this (still useless vs. bosses)
Re: Makarakarn, this is correct, BUT counters will not affect a demon who has cast Tetrakarn that turn, it just says void. So I guess it's specifically a property of bouncing damage (I assume bounced physical damage would still affect a demon with Tetrakarn up)

Er should've done a pastebin but I'm in a rush, copy that into notepad or something. I think I identified the new hardtype skills myself, it may not be complete but anything that's named reserve may well be a hardtype skill. There's other stuff like how Makakaja is Cadenza now and I think Trafuri is Fast Retreat, but you can probably figure those out.

@@JimReaperSaysUnsubscribe I feel like Zombero should've given Demi-fiend a light-damage Force skill that is basically Wing Buffet under a different name. It would probably have been most appropriate to have it replace Tornado on Hifumi, set Tornado to the power level of nerfed Prominence, and placed it on a stronger magatama.
Also would've been a decent opportunity to port over some (more) skills from that game that shall not be named...

Yes, I'd already farmed them during the run for the bosses. The only way to get the gems in a LL run is from the shop with lucky tickets... so yeah, it takes a long time.
