I'm from the north and live in northeast Florida. I love the all year ability here and I do a lot in the predawn hours everyday. I just move my hours around. My utility bills are not that bad and the property taxes are less than my home state.
What part of the Northeast? I grew up in Fort Walton Beach and Navarre and Destin. It is great there is no snow and we can be outdoors every day of the year. We can fish, scuba dive, bike, boat, golf and play tennis every day (unless there is a hurricane). 😊. Then I need to mow the yard before the rain will have it grow 3 more inches
@@gainesvillefloridaliving I live in Fleming Island (other side of the river from Jacksonville and south of the western portion of the city). It's 40 degrees this morning so predawn will be cool (especially a motorcycle ride). This is the hour shift I referred too. Even in the places where it's said there's nothing to do that I've lived I was busy the whole time (military moved me to some places you would hate, but I was ok with it). It always comes down to this..... it's what you make of it. I've lived where there is absolutely nothing, yet I also stayed busy there too. Talent trumps entertainment always as it's basically 24/7/365/all weather/all places/ alone or with others. People that need to be fed will be hungry often.
@@brianatkinson6600 Fleming Island is beautiful. I agree with you. I can keep myself occupied and find things for other people to do 🤣. I’m all about teach a person to fish vs feeding them.
I looked at the outside temp just now and it is 95 degrees 😳. We have an AC company coming out tomorrow to fix an AC. The bill to replace starts at $6,000. Praying for a fix instead
Thanks @moneypower572. Ive been to Ft Lauderdale and Miami many times but never knew about Hallendale Beach. I look forward to having a weekend get away with the family there and checking it out. 😀

lol! Honestly you get used to the heat. The good side is there are only 16 days a year on average that get to freezing. There is no snow to shovel. If you love beaches, being outside, and being on the water then Florida is the place to you. What part of Florida were contemplating?
I see why your electric bill is so high. A wall of windows and a loft bedroom? Sun blasts through those windows, heats up the air and the heat rises, right into your bedroom.
@@tintmasterjv I wish I owned that house in the background. As an investor we only purchase single story homes, 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom, 2 car garage close to the top employers so they are desirable to renters. AC’s have to work hard when the temps are 100 and trying to cool to 74 for 5 months a year. It is what it is 🤷🏻♀️
I haven't heard that one before but I will make a note to remember it. Wow, 20 years? Not sure. I do know we have many buyers coming to Gainesville for college and some don't leave. Personally I work with a lot of buyers moving up from Miami and West Palm. They tell me it is to raise a family, escape the traffic and crime, just an all around better way of living. For the Ocala market many buyers moved for retirement. For the Orlando and Tampa markets my buyers moved for jobs. I can only speak to my buyers as to the reasons they told me they moved. I guess people still like Florida.
I took my metal detector to the beach on my last visit to Florida, and was able to greatly expand my collection of roofing nails, bottle caps, corroded AA batteries, and broken eye glass frames.
I’ve lived in Fort Walton, St Augustine, and live in Gainesville now. These are the top reason my sellers tell me they selling and leaving Florida 😂. I may not like everything about Florida but what place is perfect. And the pros outweigh the cons everyday
I told my grand-daughter to travel to Florida for spring break, but she said it's a long way to go "for skin cancer and a Slurpy." Why are young people today so much smarter than we were back in the day?
Lol. I think I'm in love with your grand-daughter. I agree, people (locals and visitors) don't take care of themselves regarding sun and skincare. And for the slurpy...love them but had to give them up (way to many carbs/sugar). Still I wouldn't live anywhere else. I love everything about the Salt Life but I embrace skin protection. I also don't miss the change of seasons or shoveling snow. Thank goodness heat and humidity and bugs aren't for everyone. Where do you live now?

Air conditioning ruined Florida for us native Floridians....

If you're a snowbird from November to April its ok. Drive your car back home in April. Boric acid usually takes care of palmettos.
