      I was just thinking - this is what the manufacturers should be making I had no idea until recently that the pro was almost unplayably noisy, I can cope with the slim but it can still get annoying at times for those who like silent running... I must admit that the slim and the pro are the nicest designed consoles of all time, most consoles being ugly af - the PS5 probably one of the worst - but this is the sh*t I want one but not sure if I can pull it off or be bothered to buy the parts.

    • @AmpSkillz
      @AmpSkillz  4 года назад

      I don’t really understand the logic on blocking the side vents, but I’ve seen others talk about it... the new fan will keep air flowing in to the system and out through the stock heatsink. The vents on sides don’t seem to affect that at all except to allow additional heat to escape. I put adhesive foam strips inside the case around the circle I cut for the top fan so that seals it in enough I think.

    • @barber161
      @barber161 4 года назад +1

      Thanks for the reply, sorry I didn't see the list at first.
      My idea for blocking the ports on the side is to pressurise the system using the fans. This way (in theory) the clean air will come in, circulate and push the hot air out of the rear with more force. As you stated, they are redundant now the fans have taken over.

    @jahir1204 4 года назад +5

    Great work! The cooling on these units stinks and the way it cracks performance is sad.
    If you don't mind me asking:
    1-Why did you go with 140 and a 120 instead of 2x140mm or 2x120mm fans?
    2-With both fans running off the same circuit, isn't there a risk of burning out the circuit due to resistance or draw? Don't know what the specs of the original fan were though.
    3-What was the room temp when running the test or do you know what was the non-modded temp just to have a baseline.

    • @AmpSkillz
      @AmpSkillz  4 года назад +2

      JA EC
      A 120mm fan fits over the cavity for the stock fan on top perfectly. I could’ve used 140mm I suppose but it just wouldn’t be as efficient at pushing air through that space and then into the primary heatsink for the system. The 140mm fan on the bottom basically is just blowing air over/around the ram heatsinks and finding its way out of the bottom of the unit however it can, so I figured bigger was better.

    • @AmpSkillz
      @AmpSkillz  4 года назад +1

      JA EC
      Non modded temp is usually around 52 on these units, but I keep my system tucked away in a small hidden cubby hole I made for so it was over heating constantly. I also leave it always on.

    • @AmpSkillz
      @AmpSkillz  4 года назад +4

      JA EC The system controls the fan speeds using voltage based on how hot the system gets. I have both fans plugged into that same connector so it’s controlling both fans that way. I am assuming they are not running at a full 3000 RPMs. I have never heard them speed up, which I assume is because the system has never determined that it was necessary to cool the unit down more than it already does on its lowest voltage. The stock fan would constantly speed up or slow down and it was very annoying

    • @AmpSkillz
      @AmpSkillz  4 года назад +1

      The fan that I have placed on top is way more powerful than the blower that was inside the unit previously. Everything is essentially sealed off, so the air is still blowing through the the heatsink and then out the back vent like it is suppose to, only much faster/stronger/cooler than it ever was with the stock internal blower. I assure you, the APU is way cooler now. I did this modification because it was overheating, and it has never overheated since the modification and I don’t ever turn off my machine

    • @AmpSkillz
      @AmpSkillz  4 года назад +4

      They both (suck in) air. The air from the top fan is funneled through the large stock heatsink for the processor and then that hot air is funneled straight out the back of the console. That’s how it’s made. The bottom fan simply sucks in air to cool the RAM and to some extent provide additional cooling for the entire unit on the bottom. The console is separated internally between top and bottom sides. If I was to make the bottom fan (blow out) air, then that air wouldn’t come from the top fan, it would have to be sucked in from the sides of the console.

    Hi, this is a good video and you are a good mechanic lol I have 3 questions and you are busy, so please reply whenever you have time:
    1. Is that aluminum foil inside the console? What is it for?
    2. Do the fans blow the machine or they sucked heat out of the machine?
    3. If they blow air inside the machine, what about the dust?

    • @AmpSkillz
      @AmpSkillz  4 года назад +1

      1. It is aluminum foil tape. If/when you remove the stock fan You will need to block the bottom of that space to make sure air flows to/through the PS4s heatsink. I removed (cut off) the metal plate on one side of the stock fan and then used aluminum tape to fill in the holes, then I cut out space for the semi conductors heatsinks. Then I screwed that metal plate back into place without the stock fan. I added foil tape to my parts list.
      2. They suck air into the PS4 which has vents to release heat.
      3. I added the mesh to reduce dust, but dust is always a problem with any system that has fans no matter what you do even the stock PS4. You just need to keep an eye on it.

    Ok, but I don't understand why are both fans running on max RPM? With 120/140mm fans they only need to go around 300-500 RPM. Add some potentiometers to control RPM's. New XBX Series X will have only one 140mm fan and it will be enough to do a job.

    • @AmpSkillz
      @AmpSkillz  4 года назад +1

      EMK who said they are running at max? I doubt they could be running at max speed. The system controls the voltage to speed up or slow down the fans as needed based on the system temperature. When powering on system it starts at lowest voltage and goes up as needed. So far I’ve never heard or noticed it speed up because it stays cool. I bought and have the potentiometers for it, I just never felt like I needed to add them.

      The top and bottom are completely seperateted. Theres no air passing through the system from the top to the bottom so that would be pointless. The top fan sucks in air and pushes it directly into the main heatsink and out the vent on the back of the PS4. The bottom fan is sucking in air right under the heatsinks I’ve added to the ram.
      If I were to flip the top fan around or reverse it, the system would Overheat immediately.

      @@AmpSkillz thanks I own a ps4 slim, already drilled a hole in the case where the fan is , removed that silly shield in top of the stock fan and inserted an extra fan pushing air downwards to help airflow , used a be Quiet series fan for complete silence, is not enough it needs something stronger replaced with a noctua nf a15, now is better, that there's a major heat in the bottom owing to ggdr5 memories, already thought of making a hole underneath plastic and shielding and perhaps put it on top of one those notebook coolers that have fans, but I never draw power from the Ps4 always external voltages, really what a rubbish as always cooling system playstation put on their systems I remember ps3 same crap, so thin console with lots of heat inside

    • @Viggen66
      @Viggen66 4 года назад

      @@AmpSkillz one other possible solution for slim model is to drill an rectangle hole just in top of the heat sink making it expose to the open (plastic and metal shield) , and insert on top a 140 mm fan, which by its huge size can draw air both to the fan and heatsink at the same time, improving so much the air flow, my only concern is the psu, opening the heatsink will make the air flow on the back of the console or just to the bottom? I doubt the extreme heat from the heatsink helps cooling the psu somehow, but this solution can cool down the slim considerably and make wistle quiet.

    • @TheRandomname951
      @TheRandomname951 Год назад

      When running cool they probably get more “consistent” fps. Soooooo meaning if max fps is 60 the fps will tend to stay around high 50’s to 60 instead of dropping to say 40fps and then going back up to low 50’s because of excess heat.

      even if it were possible, which it really isnt as they are soc`s. it would be a waste putting an rtx in a ps4 as the cpu would be a huge bottleneck, not to mention inadequate power supply and terrible thermals of the ps4 chassis . also you would have to be rewrite the ps4s os and then youd only get a single player experience since going online would probably brick it.
