  • Went down to check out a cool chopper dealership, and answer the question "Is the Harley-Davidson Sportster powerful enough for the freeway?"

    Hey ZozzerRidez, my beard was the same RED as yours IS now! Now it's all white, is nearly down to my belly button, almost makes me feel like I should be riding a "Geezer Glide" motorcycle from Harley! Am hotly interested in the 883 only. The wind therapy has really helped me through some heavy stuff. Thanks for a great video presentation of the 883, and, keep up the platform of "an 883 is not too small to enjoy riding"! Doug🦁🐻🏍️👍🤓🧸

    I smash the freeway everyday to work.
    85 is comfortable after 90-95 it's a bit scetch.
    I only go 10 miles though.
    If I was going farther I'd get a bigger bike tho.

    Thanks for the video! How is it on the highway in the sense of does wind easily push you around on the road or does the bike's weight handle pretty well on the highway? I currently have a Honda XR600R that when around 65-70mph the wind is powerful. Then again the bike is 271 pounds wet according to scales recently.

    • @ZozzerRidez
      @ZozzerRidez  2 года назад

      Without a fairing above 65-70 you do catch a lot of wind. I now ride with a fairing because of how often I ride freeway speeds. The bike is about 580lb wet and stock I believe, so it's not so much the bike but your own body becoming a sail and making the bike move.

    So its not nearing top speed at about 70mph is it?

    • @ZozzerRidez
      @ZozzerRidez  2 года назад +2

      Not at all. You can cruise 80-85 all day, my only complaint is the lack of passing power at that speed. On flat ground it can go over 100. Might take a minute to get there, but it can do it.

    Why would it not handle highway speed?? 😕

    • @ZozzerRidez

      Freeway* California fwy traffic moves at 80 on average. Passing power becomes a concern up there if you need to git.

    Strongly disagree... As a mechanic for 10 years I can assure you that it is not good to run any engine close to it's limit rpms for a long time at all times. Yes, you are forcing it and lucky your engine is lasting that long.... Not to mention gas consumption. You would be much better off with something with slight more power or a 6th gear to relieve the engine a bit... Or an engine that is capable of generating higher rpms. Not to mention the safety factor... If you ever get in to some kind of situation that you need more speed and power on the freeway, you are screwed... Specially living in LA. Very misleading video, people can get hurt. Not bashing on the 883 BTW... Great bike, just not the Ideal tool for everyday freeway use. A cruiser with at least a 1200cc or a sport bike with at least 500cc (revs high and usually has more than 5 gears) would be the best tool for everyday freeway.

      I don't recall saying it was either "ideal" or the "best". Only that it can, and it handles it just fine. 80 mph fwy is not near the limit of an 883. I just finished taking the engine apart and after 21,000 miles it still looks pristine, absolutely no issues. As for gas milage it's a roughly 100 mile range for a 18 year old bike. The give or take is miniscule. I've mislead no one.
