Took a long thought about showing my face to my audience because I didn't want to have to worry about what people think what I looked like but I also am getting tired of constantly shying away from the camera. So here it is! Hope it doesn't take away from your viewing experience and you will see more of me more naturally because there are many topics I want to discuss off the bike. This week's topic was about what it is like to ride the Iron 883 on the highway because this debate has been going on forever and probably never die. If you had or have an 883, let my viewers know about your experience on the highway!
@@aucklandsadventures 😌thank you! Though if I had an uni-brow, I would've shown much earlier because internet respects the beards and brows 😅. Happy new years brother!
I rode my aunts 99' 883 a lot when visiting family in Ontario over the years. The 400 series highways she was wound out just to keep 110kph. Definitely white knuckle experience. The 1200s are no different, pre 2004 that is. I think it's the hard mounting, gearing and high rpms that give the uneasy feeling at higher speeds. Other than that, the bikes I'm familiar with can run with the big boys... just not as comfortable.
I relate more with creators that show their face. Great decision! I’ve spent countless miles passing trucks at 80+ MPH on my old 883. Definitely not lacking power, but yeah, not the best bike for trying to overtake any vehicle. Quick tip: put a 2-frame constant power crossfade at your audio cuts. That will get rid of the click you hear because of the cut. Have a happy new year, brother!
I have no issues maintaining higher speeds like 80mph and passing vehicles but I cannot rapidly accelerate from 60mph to 80mph+ like I did with the softails or the ducati. That was when I realized the power difference and how it could affect my riding when I am in trouble. Only issue with those bikes is that I will do stuff that will get me in trouble 😈 Those audio clicks annoy the hell out of me! I am not familiar with the terminology 2-frame constant power crossfade but I will look it up! Happy New Years Joe!
The Iron 883 is quite capable up to around 80mph which is within nearly all speed limits around the world. It’s easy to keep up and pass cars which is all that matters. If you were to ride a lot on the motorway (freeway) you would probably need at least a small screen to help defect some of the wind blast at higher speeds. Good video keep up the great work, I’ve put pic on instagram of my old Iron as made me think of him!
Exactly! Passing cars is my only goal but I still prefer it having a bit more high end torque to accelerate out of trouble on the highway. Everyone who sells their iron always wants it back or remembers only the good times 🤟 happy new year my friend
Awesome Decision! Yeah, I really can relate to your points outlined. Riding from Ontario to BC with an Iron 883 I definitely wished I would be more comfortable but totally manageable. Keep up your awesome content. Can't wait to see more!! Happy new year !!!
I think you made a good decision showing your face as it's definitely easier to relate. Also, riding my Iron 883 on the highway is doable but definitely not my favorite. I also have to say I liked your video about the death wobble, it was very informative and helpful. Keep up the amazing work!
Thanks Jennifer! I am so glad a lot of people are feeling it with me showing the face. I thought it would come off super cringe haha. I am planning to make a second video following up with the death wobble just because there are some facts I mentioned on the video that are not recommended by some riders in the comments! Thanks again and happy new year!
i never had a problem with my 2016 iron 883 on the highway and I do a lot of highway riding. After 6 years I did choose to put in the screamin eagle 1200 kit which will take my iron to 80-85hp with my exhaust and almost 80 foot pounds of torque. Can’t wait until I ride the bike in the spring with all the extra power.
Oh man, time will go soooooo slow until spring! Hopefully the weather clears up a bit here so I can film some more rides or else I am just wasting $$ on insurance 😫
@@KSMotoCafe true that. I live in NJ so we only get about 5 1/2 to 6 months of riding. At least half my time during the year is paying insurance for a bike I don’t ride 😔
Got on a 2 hour ride with my 883. HD tweaked my rear shocks and Saddlemen seat which made my ride livable even with my back problems. I don't ride like an a-hole though. It was fine at 75. Even on those instances I "accidentally" did 85mph, it was solid. I did compromise with installing a memphis shade fairing just so i won't have to fight wind push at speeds just to stay on the bike. That's a story most naked bike users live for. But not me. What I can tell you about is the rush when doing split lanes. It's f-ing awsome to keep going (though at a more sedate speed) between stopped cars in traffic on the freeway. This is a common thing here in California. At rush hour, some freeways (ha! some indeed) are like parking lots with people just sitting there in their cars waiting for the traffic to move an INCH. Dublin to Livermore traffic on 580, well, I've even spied on some drivers watching netflix on their frickin phones. So going through those dead stopped cars is a rush!! Oh, forgot to tell you, I only started riding last November '21. So split lane riding is VERY new to me. And it's legal here in California!
I live in central texas w a 2020 883 stock. I live off a main highway and have no problem getting on and off the highway. 80-85 mph no problem. My first bike and it will always hold a special place w me.
Good to see you Kris!! I agree the 883 is great for solo riding or with others that do not want to go fast. My Sportster worked too hard when l went on long rides with the big boys and l did get tired. Moving up to the Heritage was a wise decision for me, it was easier on the bike and a much more comfortable ride.
The 883 can go on the highway for spurts but I didn’t find it very appealing. Lack of a 6th gear also gave me a bit of ring in my ears after a while. One of the many reasons I jumped over to a LRS. I will say tho that I miss the iron and might come back to it some day.
Bruh your channel name has you destined to go back to the Iron! Either that or you are supporting the 🦑 nation from Game of Thrones! haha happy new years buddy!
Happy New Year bro 😎 I ride solo as well, but I thought my 883 was under powered for passing on 2 lane highways. I didn’t like it above 90 mph and it is a 5 speed as you mentioned. Oh, nice gas cap! 🤙🏻 Steering Dampeners will help for sure
Happy New Years Rick! I love that gas cap! Thank you so much for gifting it 😎. I hit 80-90mph for few daring seconds to get that thrill and then I ease off for the fear of possibly going into a death wobble or getting a ticket hahah. But that acceleration from 60 to 90 takes a long time compared to the softails or your Pan America!
A face only a mother can love... nah just kidding. It takes big Kahuna's and commitment to go all in. Congratulations and... you look familiar! Ps. I don't know how you manage so much... you must have an amazing wife!
LOL 😆 now you can spot me around Victoria and randomly come up and say HEY IM JOEL! Also yes my wife does great work putting up with all the chores I don't do because of this "work" hahah
Hey buddy, yea I ride my 2021 883 on the high way here in Florida. The drivers are definitely a major concern. It could use a wee bite more power and a sixth gear, but to me, that would take some of the excitement away from the experience. With the drag bars, the bike will need a Dart Fly Screen.
haha yeah man I guess the year of 2022 is when every one is coming out. I heard Blockhead will be doing it soon too lol. Feels so much better and I can produce better content!
I ride my iron 883 on the highway quite a bit and haven’t had any issues at all…..yet??? But I usually do about 70-75mph and definitely never more than 85mph. I just don’t feel confident enough on the 883 to go any faster than that. Would be nice to have that extra power though! But the 883 is perfectly capable of doing the highway……not exceptional, but not a problem either.
lol damn so glad the crawl became more manageable after the mackenzie interchange was completed and covid traffic. It has gotten worse lately but not that bad

I think you’re safe here.
