Too many people hating on this bike. This bike does exactly what it is supposed to well. It’s not crazy fast, it’s not crazy powerful. But, it’s a fantastic cruiser, handles superb, and has enough power for what you want it to do and the customisations are almost endless. It’s a great bike for what you want it for. If i want a cruiser i don’t look for a KTM duke, if i’m looking for a off-road bike, i don’t go for a Kawasaki ninja.
That said, there are better alternatives out there. IMO: The Indian Scout 60 is way better bang for the buck .(More HP, more torque, better handling, less weight, same price) However, customization options are better with the Iron 883. Anyway, horses for courses and beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Walked into one of the Harley dealerships in my town (Tulsa, Oklahoma. USA) with my wife who told me we were just looking 👀. Walked out the owner of a brand new 2020 black denim iron 883! My first “real” motorcycle! I had been riding a 2004 Honda silverwing scooter for a couple of months which is nice but the Harley is just a different game! Love my 883! I did order a windshield for it🤷🏻♂️. Coming from the silverwing with that big windscreen I just had to have one on my iron too.
You'd have a better chance surviving trying to stick a Cobra pipe up that bull's tail side than telling some of my buds that they're riding a "girl's" bike. Fantastic bike and great review ... and no pockets! Thanks again.
I’m 6ft 3, some people say you to big for the bike, some say, it looks good on me. Overall, when you stop at a red light and there is a mirror of a building to your right, you look pretty damn sexy on it, and the fit looks nice. For the Tall guys out there contemplating, don’t, and go buy this Beauty of Bike.
Hear hear. Minimalistic everytime. Character too. In my 40 years of riding, never ridden one. Its sacrilege! Quite fancy a go on the more cafe styled Roadster 1200. Argh!!! The sportster always seen as an "entry" level or "girls" bike. That's my issue with alot of hd riders in my area being snobs and scoffing at the little sportster. It's success over the years has enabled HD to develop the rest of the range. It's a classic. Great review 👍
Recently part exchanged my 94 blade that I had been riding for the last twenty years for a 2018 883 Iron. Getting old now (67) and thought it was time for a change. Love it to bits. Yours is the best review I have seen so far. David (Bognor Regis)
Awesome video 👍🏽 bright sunny day with awesome background shot. I have 2018 iron with a bunch modifications done:- miniape, forward control, custom made seat, custom made sissy bars, now planning to put 2 into 1 exhaust and some good suspension. Now my iron feels totally rad and comfortable 👍🏽.
After watching the video, a couple of times, I realised this is my bike. I bought it as an ex-demonstrator, last December. It's a great bike for someone making a return to motorcycling after a long break ( a 38 year break in my case ).
Nice review again, guys 👍 Love this bike. Of course there are lots of people who say that the sportster family is only suitable for girls, lawyers, dentists....but thats bollocks in my opinion. Man, the "Evo"-engine is working in it, so it has the nice rumble and all the character a harley should have. And on these light and nimble bikes it is possible to perform "real motorcycling". If you've got the "1200 superlow T"-configuration, it is also possible to do longer trips. I just talked to an older fellow (aged 67) a few weeks ago, who rides longer trips on his 1200 T. Unfortunately the sportster family will not be available anymore next year......what a pity!
Michi S. Thanks Michi. Very interesting comments as always! I wonder what Harley Davidson will replace it with; it could be the making or breaking of the brand
River Rocky Grey is nice, I'd prefer a green. I've always loved the profile of that engine from the left side. I would add a 3.5 gallon custom tank and shoulder level set of bar risers. The bike is full of character, enjoy and hang onto it for as long as you can.
I like my cruiser-engined MT-01 back home because of its simplicity. I really like Sportsters. I'd have one, but this exhaust is too noisy. Just checked the price of this bike here in Thailand: 11,975 GB pounds for the black; the colour one is 12,475. So a fair bit more expensive here. The 883 would be great for these roads, but the nearest dealer is around 120 miles away. No real problem as I know they're really reliable. Good video, although Darcy's voice was rather muted.
I have got an iron 883 and it's really cool. I love it. Everyone loves it. Surely sometime I want a bigger faster bike but, really, it has plenty of power even in stock form. I still haven't put an exhaust on it. I have been meaning to for ages but can't justify spending my last $$$ on it at this stage 😁 Good review, guys.
My favourite small Harley. Fun and stripped back riding suiting our B roads especially well. Only let down by a real lack of performance tuned or not...the power gains are more de restrictions of mid range via lifting eu emmissions controls than true performance tuning anyway. Always thought that Harley would do better making this one with the 1200 engine too which mildly tuned has so much more shove. I had my 1200c tuned on the dyno for 76bhp and 78 lbs ft of torque which made it entertaining! It would be great if we could have specs in feet, inches, mph, lbs-ft and bhp instead of Euro speak metric for all us over 50s. The one that winds me up most is mpg expressed as l/100km which is just meaninless to most of us I suspect! The 883 Iron in matt green and the xlc1200C in gloss black and chrome are two of my all time favourite sportsters.
Yes they are fabulous bikes. Good points about the tuning. We give the figures that manufacturers put out. We used to convert them but with inevitable errors we got fed up with people pointing it out. 👍🏼👍🏼

I keep coming back to the iron 883 though because it just looks and sounds the best out of all the entry level cruisers. Even though people rag on harleys a lot, this bike is definitely popular for a reason! Truth be told though, I'm nervous to even go test ride one since I learned like 5 months ago and that was the first time i've ever been on a bike. Anyway, if you want to do it, I suggest doing it. It was the most scary, yet fun thing i've ever done in my whole life. And i've done a lot of crazy shit.

Arrrg
Yes it’s definitely going. We are definitely in a position to get the inside info but nothing concrete yet. I’d buy one if you want one now because whatever replaces it may not be as charactersome
G'day from Australia gents, Beautiful Country side I must say. Thanks for the great info, I might have to invest in one of these. I'm torn between this and the Indian Scout bobber.
When talking about comparitve weights and length of Harleys, the guy missed an important fact :- center of gravity. A Sporty has a higher center of gravity and can feel 'top-heavey' even compared to a big twin but it's horses for courses as Sportys do respond quicker when thrown about in spirited riding. All Harleys are big heavy old beasts but if ridden like a Harley then they can be great fun and unless you are being stupid they are OK, but they are not sports bikes.... they are much more comfortable to boot. I have surprised a lot of people by how I can keep up with faster, lighter more agile bikes.... when I point out that I know how to ride ANY bike and not just the easy sportbikes people seem upset about my comments. I have two Harleys - a sporty and a dyna, both making over 100bhp and they are great fun BUT they ain't Ninjas and I don't try to ride them like thet are !

@@MrDarcy-OlMan How much does it cost to get Harley to change the pipe system if one wanted a louder bang for the buck? 0 on a stock Iron is pretty depressing lol. I guess there are a few options for each model, but does pricing also vary from model to model Im assuming?
@@drsparwaga exhaust prices are pretty much the same for most models. I’d recommend not going for something like short shots as they are very loud but aren’t good for the bikes performance. Vance and Hines twin slash slip ons are great bang for your buck and they’re loud whilst maintaining good back pressure.
@@rogerchambers1309 Thats fair enough, but my point was that those shocks are not stock on that bike, and as this was a review, it would have been handy if they were pointed out because the bike probably rode better and changed they're overall impression of the bike. BTW, I really like the roadster, but I'd want the bars off the Iron 1200 for a more standard Sportster stance. I think they'd go great with the better suspension and clearance provided by the roadster.
I don't think it's a girls bike at all (probably because I own one). I think it's one of the better looking and sounding harleys... it's also more reliable than the bigger harleys...
I know I'm 2 years late but if the channel is ever struggling maybe you should revisit the ol man in a skirt riding an iron 883. That will surely push the viewership up, that kind of thing worked pretty well for the Kardashians 🤔😂.
nice review , nice colour , yes you both might look big on the bike , but if you fit , it rides nice and feels good so what ;; also keep doing your tests without the stupid overpowering music most people seem to think is the norm .. please
I have a 15 Iron; maintenance has cost less than my old Honda I replaced with the HD as everything is handled during servicing and services are reasonable at my local dealer. As for costs, depends on where you are but 5000-mile dealer service here in Florida ran me 245 USD and at 10K miles the rear tire needed changing for 150 USD, also just put a new battery in for 130 USD.
Watched your licensing video, it’s just awful what you have to go through there legally. Having to detune a bike just to be able to ride it. Feel for ya.
I just bought a used 2019 iron 883 with 3000 miles on it for $6500 USD.. Good simple engines. easy to work on, and easy to rebuild when the time comes. You can also upgrade them to 1200cc, 1250cc, or 1275cc and make really good power out of them for a reasonable amount of money.
Still no lbft for torque and it’s American 🇺🇸🏍 😢 Needs twin discs up front and then I’d consider one, but seems expensive for what it is as an entry level HD 🧐 But seems their best sized model for UK roads 🇬🇧 #StaySafe 😷
We will get there with the lbft were stacked up with reviews already done. Double front discs a good idea but they’re axing this in EU soon but I don’t know about USA
Unbelievable that people can't drive without aids nowadays, all my life I've drove motorbikes and never needed a computer to help me stop, it's ridiculous! 🤦♂️
not an iron fan (I actually own a ktm, so, very different), that's not what the 883 is about it's like when someone puts gigantic rims on an big old american car, its not going to be fast, it's not going to drive well, its just a matter of style
It's a lazy design and a complete waste of money. The 1200 isn't exactly high tech but isn't quite as embarrassingly slow as this. Ride an old cb500 and you'll be suprised with the torque.
Nimble bikes don't transmit anything in reality. It is not that their high tech, they just lack something. A Harley-Davidson might not be that "high tech", but it sure does pretty well what it is intended for (cruising on a mountain is pretty effortless; not needing more than 3000 rpm to be pushed hard) and it feels alive. Have you ever ridden a horse? A H-D sounds and feels pretty much like a horse. Just saying.

I really want to buy an Iron 1200 but I'm hesitant incase an upgraded model comes out next year, then again if I wait I might miss out entirely. Arrrg
Yes it’s definitely going. We are definitely in a position to get the inside info but nothing concrete yet. I’d buy one if you want one now because whatever replaces it may not be as charactersome
@@MrDarcy-OlMan Thanks for the advice, I'll try and get one
Dave Bostock cool. Let us know how it goes. If you’re in the UK, Sycamore Harley Davidson have ordered 11 in!
The only problem is sustained speeds on the Motorway. It really is an in town cruiser.
Yes ideally
I run 85 MPH on a stock 15 Iron on the US interstates without problems, the bike is smooth and comfortable at this speed.
great vlog I have one of these and have done a review but love the format of your channel its quite unique.
CRAZYLEGS ON A BIKE! Thanks buddy! Yes we love the Iron 883. 👍🏼
G'day from Australia gents, Beautiful Country side I must say. Thanks for the great info, I might have to invest in one of these. I'm torn between this and the Indian Scout bobber.
Thanks Bud! Did you also see our Scout review? That might help
I was also torn, I went with the iron 1200.

It's been probably 30 years since I rode a Sportster. The air filter cover got in the way of my knee. Doesn't look like much has changed. lol
Stu Glenn the air filter still gets in the way! 😬
Do you guys operate a harley dealership or something? How do you get so many bikes.
Darcy works at one!

Love the vids.
Nice break from US vids on bikes.
👍😉
BTW, that 883 sounds SICK!! 👍
Thanks buddy! Great to hear your feedback 👍🏼👍🏼
...I’ve only just found your channel, you have some interesting stuff. Over here in Oz, there seems to be a certain demographic of women (it rhymes with bike) that ride this. I’m 6’5” and have been riding for 40+ years, I’d be interested to see the big fella test the 2020 Kawasaki Z900RS.
Anders Michaelson Glad yo found us! Your comment made us chuckle! We are always looking for different bikes to ride do keep watching bro
On a scale of 1-10 how loud is it? Seems every video I watch it doesn’t do any justice.
I’d say a 5. Stock being 0 and 10 being straight pipe
I love the sound.
Yes it’s very distinctive
When you hear that blind folded you will know it's a hd straight away
This is the a iconic sound of hd's
Onez yes 100%
That would be my choice for a first Harley 👍
Yes great choice!
Great bike guys cheers 👍🏻
Thanks yes it’s really good indeed actually
Great video, but is no one going to mention the humungous aftermarket shocks?!
Thanks bro. No I guess not!
They’re stock HD...same on my Roadster
@@rogerchambers1309 Thats fair enough, but my point was that those shocks are not stock on that bike, and as this was a review, it would have been handy if they were pointed out because the bike probably rode better and changed they're overall impression of the bike.
BTW, I really like the roadster, but I'd want the bars off the Iron 1200 for a more standard Sportster stance. I think they'd go great with the better suspension and clearance provided by the roadster.
@@ewganhoff I'm in the process of putting scrambler bars on the Roadster...interestingly I saw the same shocks on a 1200 sporty the other day.
I don't think it's a girls bike at all (probably because I own one). I think it's one of the better looking and sounding harleys... it's also more reliable than the bigger harleys...
Color aside, what do you recommend. Vance and Hines 2into1 stainless upsweep or the cobra 2into1?
Interesting, they are both very close tbh. We haven’t actually heard the upsweeps on an iron in the flesh to I can’t pass full judgement.
Great review. Really good. Those exhausts should scare the s out of these cows! Excellent
Maxi ALBERTO Thanks bro! Yes the cows weren’t keen!
What about the farmer?
splodge 57 Tbh the animals are used to vehicles and weren’t actually bothered.
sorry but you made me chuckle when you gave the mileage in imperial and then the the tank capacity in that metric nonsense 🤣🤣🤣
Pretty normal to use Miles and Litres in the UK. We only use gallons when looking at MPG for some reason.
That pipe sounds mad :)
Great review guys. Can you make use of other microphones? Especially Mr. Darcy is hard to understand in some takes.
internetcruiser Thanks buddy! We were struggling with gusts and it was playing havoc with the levels.
I know I'm 2 years late but if the channel is ever struggling maybe you should revisit the ol man in a skirt riding an iron 883. That will surely push the viewership up, that kind of thing worked pretty well for the Kardashians 🤔😂.
nice review , nice colour , yes you both might look big on the bike , but if you fit , it rides nice and feels good so what ;; also keep doing your tests without the stupid overpowering music most people seem to think is the norm .. please
Thanks buddy. The Iron is actually bigger than most bikes. Yes we only pit music over short clips where appropriate but generally not at all
Launde Abbey?
Yes well spotted
My favourite Harley 👍
Thanks yes they are the best selling Sportster
You make a gsa look small 😎
There’s not much out there for taller people sadly.
Boys.. where ARE ya doing this review? I NEED to put it in my gps. It's stunning.
It’s called Launde Abbey in Rutland. They’ve got a coffee shop there too.

Can anyone help me with How much the service and maintenance cost will be for 10000 mile a year daily commute.
Thanks bud! Yes it’s ridiculous! Nanny State here!
@@MrDarcy-OlMan don’t worry we’re on our way there, a lot of stress currently. Anyways, keep up the great work 👍.
How much does one of these cost?
Can only buy second hand now 👍🏼
I paid 12K AUD for a 2017 ex demo at the time if you ask your dealer they will look into getting you a quality 2nd hand unit
He looks like a giant and he should wear a skirt once.
The sound ist just amazing. Will it survive a track day?
👍🏼😁 Yes I reckon it would easily survive a track day
One day...

"either gender",lol,it's a minefield nowadays.
How many genders are there?
Thanks for entertaining review👍
I should have said all genders really! No problem buddy!
Did you sedate those sheep? Ha!👍
Still no lbft for torque and it’s American 🇺🇸🏍
😢
Needs twin discs up front and then I’d consider one, but seems expensive for what it is as an entry level HD 🧐
But seems their best sized model for UK roads 🇬🇧
#StaySafe 😷
We will get there with the lbft were stacked up with reviews already done.
Double front discs a good idea but they’re axing this in EU soon but I don’t know about USA
So, security features are distracting now? 🤨 Is mind-blowing that it doesn't even comes with ABS.
It does come with abs, every model after 2016
Unbelievable that people can't drive without aids nowadays, all my life I've drove motorbikes and never needed a computer to help me stop, it's ridiculous! 🤦♂️
The less gimmicks they have, the better, for me.
Poor sheeps 🤪
They weren’t bothered tbh, no more than any vehicle passing by
The older cb500's have more hp and a lot lighter. Bit of a joke the 883 is
But not nearly as much torque and at 8000rpm or something, so completely different. Harleys are about torque and at low rpm for effortless cruising.
not an iron fan (I actually own a ktm, so, very different), that's not what the 883 is about
it's like when someone puts gigantic rims on an big old american car, its not going to be fast, it's not going to drive well, its just a matter of style
Arie Alberto It’s not really designed to be fast and that’s not what people buy them for.
Clown.
It's a lazy design and a complete waste of money. The 1200 isn't exactly high tech but isn't quite as embarrassingly slow as this. Ride an old cb500 and you'll be suprised with the torque.
Too expensive, too loud and too much vibration... the world of bikers have moved on to better designs
It’s got so much soul though. 👍🏼
Too loud and too much vibration?
Beta.
