  • Drowning is the leading cause of death among children 1-4 years old in Bangladesh, claiming the lives of 12,000 children annually.
In an effort to confront this public health challenge, Bloomberg Philanthropies funded the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and local organizations-including community daycare centers-from 2012-2017 in order to test different drowning prevention strategies.
In this short film, meet Adnan Hyder, MD, MPH, PhD, program director of health systems in the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and director of the International Injury Research Unit.
"We at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health are not just interested in developing a solution," says Dr. Hyder, "but we also want to be partners in implementing that solution so that real lives can be saved around the world."
