Oh and my first ever batch of 25 meat birds (Cornish cross) ship Tuesday, so great timing on the video, it was a good refresher. Also ordered a Kitchener drum plucker from Amazon. All the better rated entry level pluckers are out of stock everywhere, so be warned any of y’all looking.
Hi Saundra. Chuck finally let you in the video. You know what would be interesting, videoing Saundra what she does while you’re out doing chores. All in good fun. Bless you for all the hard work.
Great video, thank you. If we try out turkeys this year for the first time: your video has been the inspiration ;-) ! Best regards from Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada!
Hey guys Not sure how long of extension cords your using just check to make sure that they are hopefully 12 ga with 1500watts being drawn the length and gauge comes into play... Let her have fun She is bringing smiles to your videos
You guys are awesome! Just ordered your brooder plans and plan on building us one out. We are currently using 2 black totes from Tractor Supply and they work ok but I think ya'lls brooder would better suit us. Thanks for everything you do and all the knowledge you are sharing!
That Cornish cross is boss. It was my first meat chicken. 2 over ate young and died. Ones legs stopped working before it was a year old but I grew to incredible size. The other two lived longer didn't have leg problems and again produced massive amounts. These chickens free ranged with my leghorn and though they preferred grains, they were excellent grazers. Overall very healthy and sweet temperament.
The new mic’s improved your audio 1000%! 👍 The roof on the giant brooder looks pretty heavy and appeared that it wants to twist when you opened it. Would attaching a 2x2 strip vertically every 3 or 4 feet help stiffen up the plywood and stabilize it when opening? The new chicks look great zooming all over the brooder. Turkeys are growing fast! They always crack me up running in a single line, flapping their wings but no flight. Glad to see Sondra getting back to her sassy self and making a appearance. 🤠
Problem we have right now. In Arizona we are having heat advisory October 7th. Brooder is at 105 during the day. 3 waters inside the birds are 5 days old and panting.
Great video guys. Love to see the grass starting to green up and hearing the peeps of the new chicks. We’re starting our second year of having just chicken and eggs at the market and doing all our own processing packaging. We’re going to try to do a run or two of turkeys this year and I wondered, when you mention having ground turkey and turkey sausage, are those products you process and package yourself? If so I’d love a video on that process. As well as some insight on how you part up a whole turkey. We have processed a couple for neighbors but never broken them down. Thanks for what you do and any info you can lend!
Where the heck do you live that you are allowed to process and package yourself without thousands of dollars of equipment, machinery and sanitation devices? Where I live in Canada, the provincial government basically requires all of the above plus a dedicated indoor area and a license. In other words, the only poultry producers that can afford to process the birds themselves are factory farms. It's brutal.
@@esperago Most of the US has a small poultry producer exemption. That allows farms like mine and Chuck and Saundra’s to process and package poultry so long as it’s under a certain number of birds (usually 20k). It still is thousands of dollars of equipment if you want to do it at any scale, just a little lighter on the regulation size. Also in almost all cases can’t be sold over state lines.
@@TheWesAshcraftShow God Bless the USA. I'm Canadian but should have been born an American. So many regulations up here. I need a poultry license just to raise anything over 200 meat birds a year. Im jealous of your freedom.
what breed of hen did you mention you were getting? Not the cornish but the other one. I am looking for a breed that does well on pasture. Need good meat bird that is good at foraging. Love your brooders :)
you mention that the more chicks you have the less time you can have them in there...what is your time frame say if you had 30 chicks? How long should they stay in there? 3 weeks or less?
I just ordered the Cornish cross this morning. I couldn't get get many as they have been selling fast. What is the problem you had with them? I had to order some ginger broilers too. Any reviews on those? I am a meat bird newbie. Always eggers for this country girl up til this year.
Just curious where do you order your birds from? I usually raise and butcher 150 Cornish a year. Been thinking about doing some turkeys again but the price up here in the northeast are ridiculously high for turkey peeps. Thanks
We get a kick out of your videos. It comes across as if you're the first people to discover agriculture and animal husbandry. It was said back in the day, "These young kids think they invented sex." Good luck. What you're doing is fine, but completely unsustainable.
I love Sandra's laughter and fun attitude. We need more of her in your videos.
We'll get her in some more. She has been neck deep in her off farm job since the first of the year. She'll free up some after tax season is over.
@@SheratonParkFarms I do not envy a person who gets put into the pressure cooker of each tax season. Hopefully she will get through it just fine
Yes sir. It certainly tries her nerves. She thinks April 15 is a bigger holiday than Christmas because it’s over then (mostly). Appreciate it.
The new mics are fantastic! A real game changer.
Thanks! Agree it is much better.
Sound quality is spot on. I appreciate the investment.
Thanks! Appreciate the feedback.
The sound is much much better

Yeah she finally made in. Don’t know that her napping all day would be interesting. 🤣🤣 just joking.
So glad Sondra is feeling well, nice to hear her chuckle. Be well, best wishes to you and yours.

Thanks Chuck...I just ordered the brooder plans! Tim in northern TN
Thanks Tim! Hope they are helpful. Appreciate your support.

Thanks for the feedback. Yeah, we are going to work on the roof of that to improve it some.
Love your videos, one suggestion with your big brooder. The hinged roof looks heavy because of the shingled roof. A metal roof might be lighter .
Great info as usual.
Good stuff 😎

We just are finishing them up. We’ll do another video in that brooder and have the plans available.
Love meat chicks

Thanks. New mics.
What style bulbs do u use with hogslat heat lamps, thinking about buying some and notice they have round face or hardened dimple face for bulbs
We use the regular red heat lamp bulbs. 250w I think they are.

Hey guys enjoy watching your videos. Just was wondering how do you do the processing on your chickens? Do you donut yourself? Thanks!
Yes. We do it ourselves here in the farm.
Great vid. Simple questions: who did you order your chicks from and what wireless mics did you add?
Chicks came from Hoover Hatchery. We usually order from Freedom Ranger. Mic: amzn.to/35cd8Om
Would you spell the name of the pasture chickens (the ones other than your new meat chicks)- I would like to know more about them please.
They are Freedom Ranger Color Yield. Good luck with them. They do great for us. Appreciate y’all watching
What about feed requirements for chicks and do you do any additives like Ferrell?
We buy a good quality chuck started that already has the minerals in it.

Where do you purchase all your chics
Before I buy the plans, can I ask what the footprint dimensions of the small brooder is. Want to get an idea on space needed.
How long do you keep the chicks in the brooder? You may have mentioned it, but I wasn’t sure I’d it’s based on size and space.
We leave them in there till they are mostly feathered out.
Who do y’all order your birds through?
Where do you order your chicks from?
These came from Hoover Hatchery. We usually order from Freedom Ranger. Hoover has good chicks.
Do you or did you ever ferment the feed before feeding it? Supposedly much better feed conversion. Please reply. Thanks
you mention that the more chicks you have the less time you can have them in there...what is your time frame say if you had 30 chicks? How long should they stay in there? 3 weeks or less?
Where did you order your Cornish Cross from? I haven’t had much luck with active CC chicks and lost several in the first week.
Is it true, its good to put peas and Oregano in their water? To help them.

I got 30 buff Orpingtons to raise for meat chickens so I could incubate and hatch my own eggs are the buffs a decent meat bird
If i have cornish crosses i use em for pets
Do you process your own chickens?
Yes. We do them here in the farm.
