Hey, I'm building a Primal Rage arcade cabinet using the Saturn version. The joysticks I ordered all have square gates by default, and I was considering modding them into circle gates like the original arcade cab. Are you using a circle gate on your stick and do you think it makes a difference for special move execution?
Great question! I have used square, octagonal, and no gate (or circle). For my taste, octagonal and circle are both fine for Rage. It's what I'm used to and that might be the deciding factor for you as well. What makes a much larger difference is the lever itself: ball or bat top, resistance, and throw distance. I like heavy resistance, so Industrias Lorenzo is my go-to, as compared to many Japanese sticks that have a light touch without modding. If you prefer characters with double inputs (eg. Nearly all of Vertigo's specials double-tap a direction), then using a short-throw lever like the Seimitsu Nobi is a consideration. Otherwise, a standard throw lever is fine for everyone else. Thank you for the question!
