- this package tray fits 68-72 chevelle and 70-72 monte carlos, maybe other years too
dimensions are at the end of the video
just an idea on how i made a rear package tray for my 70 chevelle
thanks for watching and please subscribe
1970 rear speaker grills were rectangular and were a one year only design. They also came with the 4 corner threaded studs attached. Very difficult to find these days. Enjoy your channel. I like the fact that you’re not afraid to tackle certain projects.
Those are indded the correct speaker grill covers for GM A body cars 68-72. My 72 Monte Carlo has the same ones.
As the painter the first thing I think when I see Raw wood is to put an oil primer on all sides and edges to prevent any moisture entering the wood. That could cause any warpage
Great video. great job getting to the point. Appreciate it.
Great video! Can confirm 100% A body Package trays are complete trash. I have one in my 69 442 completely warped, I will be making a new one following your tutorial! Thank you!
Friking awesome.. Need to do this to my 63 caddy...
Awesome! Thank you
Great job man looks great!!
your vids were a big help to me with my 66 El Camino. Appreciate getting good ideas from a guy with so much in common with my own situation.
Thanks for your videos ! You're my "Go To Guy" for videos for my 1970 Pontiac Lemans. Your speaker boxes are missing the clip that is supposed to be in the middle. It spreads when it is pushed onto the speaker magnet, then clamps onto it. The box will actually be snug to the bottom of the shelf and directs the sound up into the cabin space.
Great video! I followed your instructions this week and made one. Looks great, inexpensive and fit perfectly. Thanks.
Nicely done
I was like, I hope Chris has a video for a package tray!!!! Yes, Thanks Chris
Wish I could send you a picture of mine
Thank you, Mr. Chris Craft another good Chevelle instructional video
Thanks for the easy instructions
Great job and video, Chris. Best I have seen on this subject. I have a '70 Monte Carlo and bought one of those after market reproductions with the mesh covering the speaker holes. It doesn't look anything like the one that I took out. The old one didn't have the wings at each end while the new one does. I could not get the son of a gun to fit. Until your video, I wasn't aware that the ends fold up. My car is 47 years old and apparently someone had replaced the package tray with a homemade piece. Talk about learning the hard way. Now I have to figure out how to bend the end flaps up because I don't see any guidelines or perforations.
even with nothing in the car it is hard to put in.. good luck and thanks for watching
Great job thanks for the video!
Just subscribed to your channel Chris Craft. Dude your videos on the Chevelle has helped me numerous times in putting my 71 Chevelle back together from just a rolling frame and body. Your awesome dude and thanks for making these videos and helping all us out
The boxes used in the trunk under the speaker was usually mounted by G.M . with a stud (threaded) and a push clip. It's purpose was to reduce road noise entering the car by the speaker. On my newer olds the speakers mounted with a bracket, and the stud was a part of the bracket. My guess is the chevelle would be different.
Another great video, thank you Chris
Two thumbs up bro,you nailed it!
Those are original GM speaker grills, they used the same ones in many different models including 70 - 81 Camaro & Firebird as well as the Chenille.& GTO. That really was the go to grill for most of the 70s GM cars with the exception of the Cadillacs of that era. Hope that is helpful.
I believe those speaker grilles were correct starting 1971. The 1970 grille should be rectangular with the same mounting studs. I researched this a few years back when trying to find a pair for my 70 monte.
interesting.. the ones in the video did come off a 72 Monte Carlo
Chris Craft yeah. Just ebay search 1970 speaker grille. They will pop up. Pretty expensive though because it was a 1 year option.
Nice work homeboy ,my 70 Monte needs one just like yours. Much better than OPGI.
Great job!
Wow... most excellent!
Can I make this but without the wood panel? My car has a metal shell and the current piece is just fabric with some foam on top.
nice work Chris
Hey o have a 70 Monte Carlo. Are you willing to make me one?
The speaker grilles on my 72 look the same
Thanks man, making one from your dimensions! Appreciate it!
I have just seen your very interesting video! I wonder what you call that sheet metal part below your rear package tray in English. Maybe "rear package tray panel"? I have seen names like the "seat shelf" or "trunk divider" but I guess that is rather the vertical part behind the rear seats, correct? My dictionary says "rear bulkhead" but I am not sure about it. Thanks in advance!
trunk divider panel
@@chriscraft77022 Wow, what a fast response - Thanks a lot! By this you mean only the horizontal part or the vertical part behind the rear seats, as well? I work for a car company as an English translator so this is extremely helpful for my car body vocabulary.
that’s what I call it.. I may not be the person you should be asking 😎
Yes, the one I ordered from Classic Industries is straight shit!
its a paper
Chris Craft thinnest paper ever!
wouldnt it be cheaper to buy one?
i did buy one..and it was cheaper.. price and quality.. it was trash
@@chriscraft77022 ah ok. i’m just gonna buy a 20$ one until i have the money to restore my car, i just bought a 72 as my first car
@@454ko3 yes, buy one.. if it goes bad use it as a template to make a better one.. make videos on your build.. ill sub
