what about hum or buzzing coming from the amplifier? could that be EMI?I have 3 amps that are having that problem. I did not have that problem before?Thank you.Your son rocks! wish I could play like him I am just a beginner.

The potentiometers require lubrication. You'll need to lubricate them with DeoxIT F5 after you've sprayed them out with your choice of electronics cleaner. Do not use WD-40. If the grease was flushed out you'll feel that rough turning action. You'll want to keep them internally greased to also help prevent corrosion.

Way to go teaching kids how to play and repair things. My son is almost 16 now and I have tried my best to do the same with him teaching him how to repair engines and electronics. He plays guitar also and his amp has developed a light humming sound when turned on. So thank you for this video and we are gonna look for the problem this week. !!

The humming could also be gunk on the strings, a grounding issue, electrical or radio interference, or another mystery cause

I recently bought a Crate GT212 120 watt beast that has what I believe is a grounding issue (after watching this extremely helpful video) and some pots to clean. The amp has tons potential and I plan to fix it! It was great to see a father-son tech team. My father used to let me climb on to the bumper of his vehicles at the age of 4 too see him working on them and do regular maintenance. Your son will appreciate this video more as he gets older. Wish you both the very best!🌎

I have a Dean Markley K100B. I purchased new in 1993, the signal seems like it's starting to need time to warm up before it will actually play consistently. I've sprayed dialectic spray were I can. I've played different guitars thru it so its not the guitar. Any Idea's? Does solid state need time to warm up ? It plays well after about 15 minutes of warm up. Let me know. Thanks.

Hi. I have a beautiful looking tweed SS amp, 35 Watts and 10" speaker. I've had it from new. I always thought it sounded warm but over time I've had to increasingly cut the bass and mid to almost off and boost the high to max. Even then it sounds very muddy. I only use clean channel but issue is apparent on drive channel also.
Is there a particular component I should be looking at to address this? I am an electronics engineer.
The amp in question is demoed by a popular RUclips guitarist and sounds much brighter so I'm pretty sure mine is "faulty".
    Cheers

i'm glad dads like you exist. cause I've rarely seen a young person even interested in rock music, much less playing guitars. Its all about the DJ's and electronic music and autotune. A lot of kids underestimate how hard it is to actually make music because its so easy on a computer. Most music these days are made with the eyes and looking at the positions of notes, rather than what it sounds like

    • @Frewster
      @Frewster 4 года назад +4

As someone who does both it's kinda funny to hear someone say this.
I find it much easier to pick up a guitar to play some notes and figure out melodies. But when I want to produce something I gotta pick a voice, or waveform, set the right dB, think about compression, and what other effects I'm gonna use, and do all the percussion, etc., Ad nauseum.
So in the great words of Jesse Jackson
"We know that music is music, all of our people got a soul, our experience determines the texture, the taste and the sound of our souls"
      It's all relative I guess.

    Hello Mr Tampatec!
    Thanks for your nice video.
I was facing some problem with my own amp, which is a similar model. (Valvestate
VS 65R) Two capacitors were changed, along with a 12ax7 tube and I was pretty sure the
problem was solved. (Nothing wrong with the tube, except it is old. So I
replaced it with a Russian electro harmonix, cause I was searching for a better
sound for my amp. By the way if you have any tube suggestion to make, please do…)
I finally assembled my VS 65, but now there is an audible buzz while it is on... It is a
bassy sound like note, not a hiss. It is not that loud, but the amp is not so
silent any more. If I unplug the jack from the amp's input, it is quite silent,
even if I put the volume knob at high levels. I hope I'm not bothering you, so
I'm asking: Is this sound possibly coming from the new pair of capacitors that
    I've changed?
The specs of the old ones were 50V 2200μF and 85 o C, while the new ones are of bigger
diameter and a different heat tolerance, which is now 105 o C. They also have
the OX and 4(2) marks on them, which I don't know what it's about.
I also noticed, that the old pair of caps was steadily fixed on the PCB with some thermo-glue, which I didn’t put while I was replacing them. Does it have any particular role
in this case? I would appreciate if you could enlighten me a bit.
    Kind regards
    John

This is a common symptom of 60 Hz (or 50 Hz) hum. The connection to ground could have been inadvertently affected.
Note that there are only a handful of manufacturers of tubes, and they all provide very similar quality tubes. The resale companies simply provide QC.

I have a Vox Beatle amp and when I turn it on there is just a loud hum. I took the guts out and noticed one of the ceramic resistors in the power section is hot to the touch. Could this mean the power transistors are bad? I did a visual scan and found no burned parts. I think the power section is bad because there is no interplay with the preamp at all just a loud hum. What do you think and where should I look? Thank you, Charles

I have a fender power chorus. The volume surges after about 20 minutes of playing. Any ideas what causes this? Can't seem to find an answer. Thanks!

Very nice video, man! I have one of these, and had one of these issues. All fixed!
Do you ever use the "Preamp out" and "Power amp in" for pedal loop? I'm trying to use it, but there's a pop noise everytime I hit the switch from the pedals (like an amplification of the switch). Besides that, it works great for modulation pedals, especially with the Valve channel. Do you have any tips of how can I fix the pop noise? Tks

Appreciate the helpful video's. I'm hoping for a little help. I have a randall rg100 G3 plus. It is a valve/ss. The distortion channel works fine. But the clean channel not so much. It will light up when I switch channels but none of the knobs, other than master volume will work. I don't know why?

I have the same amp and will try this but one thing I need is the on off switch which is busted ..but one knob causes a static noise which I hope the spray will fix Ty..

What about a bad diode? What would that cause? My amp has power, buzz through speakers but no audio when trying to play..
This was after soldering a capacitor back on to board that had fallen off due to bad solder joint..

idk if my issue is damaged pickups or damaged amp. but on certain pickups the sound from the amp becomes very very muffled as if a pillow is placed on the speaker. what's the issue and how can I fix it?

usually it's the cable connection or amp. might have blown speaker sounds like so check speaker.
