Lance & Wyatt head out to Sunset, Tx for a lead on possibly one of the rarest milk trucks in existence.
Scavenging through a huge classic salvage yard with over 3,000 vehicles. Lance & Wyatt lay eyes on a 1940 Chevy Dubl Duti. After a little bit of research, the guys determine this is an extremely rare find, and possibly the last one in the world.

It's quite refreshing how polite everyone is to one another.
This one is extremely rare and actually may be the very last one of its kind. it should be preserved in stock form and NOT rodded or left in patina but actually restored. Step vans are catching on and going up in value and this one has the potential to really be something if actually restored and painted. its not like youd have much invested in redoing the interior as there is no upholstery other than the drivers seat. You have the talent and the sources for finding parts to do this one up right which will not only give a nice profit but will be actually saving a piece of history that cant be replaced. Give this one the respect it deserves.
I agree with you mate, DO NOT HOT ROD IT!
todd denio nah bag the hell out of it 🤙🏻🤟🏻
Keep er original !!!
todd denio - I agree completely, this one should be brought back to pristine original and then appreciated for the rare old beauty that it truly is.
I would agree, it’s a simple restore from the standpoint of the austere interior. Obviously there’s a lot of body work to to do. The rear doors are askew, that’s a bit troubling if it’s not just hinges. I’d try to stabilize the body with some interior bracing to prevent any racking. Gingerly lift the body off. Get the engine & tranny out and get them rebuilt if feasible. Put the hooks to the frame, have it and the wheels sand blasted, with the proper media, especially the body. Powder coat the frame and wheels, then start the reassembly of the chassis. With the braced body I’d try to get floor squared around inside and out. Get them both primed and the underside under coated. This would also include paying attention to any and all vertical bracing going up the sides, to at least 12-18” above the floor. The metal is really thick, though I’m sure rust has reduced that a bit, looking at the passenger side upper A pillar. I assume the panels are spot welded on though there may be filled joints? I wonder if the panels can be drilled and removed to get all the rust out? This is such a promising build that’s been rescued in the nick of time. It going to take a lot of love, time and patience. But yes, long post aside, keep it original! Just my thoughts, and yes I am the king of over kill. Blessings to all! Merry Christmas.
i really like the owner of that salvage yard, seems like a good dude!
There's a truck like this in Fox Lake Illinois the grill is a tad difference but the same style
I follow you. Love what you guys do. I just turned 16 Dec. 10th 2019. My father owned a 1930 milk delivery van Chevy. He used it as a fishing , hunting van. After fixing it up. He sold it for 30 thousand dollars. I loved that van. And any old vans like his I love. And I plan on finding my own someday. Rebuild it myself.. ( still learning stuff lol ) and plan on using it as a mini camper van for exploring.. So.. I hope you make it original not a rat rod or cop top hot rod... I'm a Barbi girl not living in a barbi world..lol
Am I the only one noticed pops shoe untied and him not giving a care in the world lol... I love these two dudes. I would give anything to have a relationship like this with my dad
I agree....I could have saved countless hours and money in learning... from my dad instead of trial and error... Maybe not ....He probably would have spent the whole time saying stop working on that P.O.S. ....u could be working at NASA right now and buying brand new cars.....
yep, in the northeast nobody is calm like these folks... good ppl
@@rustywrenchprojects4171 my dad wasn't around much. He worked for uncle Sam...always gone. We always had what we needed. Except him

its all for the movies . they have issues like the rest of us losers .
That brochure that came with it, is invaluable since there are no other pictures you could find on it- at least you have a blueprint now of what it was like new!!...amazing find tho!
I recommend restoring that, no customizations. Just keep it Stock
Factory mint, if possible.
We both know there not going to do that. It would be to logical
QuestionMan well I mean no matter what they do it’s a cool van id like to see it semi custom not slammed or anything maybe lowered 2 inches or so

Love, love, love that you include the purchase negotiation in the video with pauses and all!
I have to say that your dad is non talking man :-) He´s really cool. In all videos you talk so much and dad is observing with easy
he doesn't say something until there's something to say
I was at my dad's house and he's into old cars and old stuff being restored and we were watching your channel and I've just fell in love with the channel and i have a passion in old cars
I can only say one word, GREAT, well maybe two, REALLY GREAT! There is nothing like, TRUE PASSION, just GREAT!
Gentlemen. Stock to the bone, please. No patina, no rat, no motor change or lowering. You know it makes sense given its rarity. Be as harsh on the rust as you can and really make sure it will survive well for years to come. What a find! Hope you have a great time seeing this thru. All the best!
Super excited that you've found a rare gem and have the ambition to give life into this old Chevy! God bless and will continue to watch!
That salvage yard is proof that The Happy Hunting Ground truly exists! Incredible collection!
I share your excitement over this truck: Such unique nd cartoonish styling, can't wait toseewhat you guys do with it.
Just good Ole boys making deals on their passions! Sure am glad there's people that love doing this!!!
You need to call it The Owl. Big face large glass eyes little beak.

That's pretty good!
Fellers this is pretty strange to me....Cause the milkman we had would come by every week with fresh milk had one of these.....l remember it very well....Because for 5 cents l would get a little bottle of chocolate milk...Man was it good..!..Also that old Nash you all passed by my dad had one for years...l loved it....To me being a small boy it looked like a School Bus inside lots of room inside.....It had a very Strange thing going on with itself....When we would sit down for supper in the afternoon....It would start itself no joke...I know this sounds strange...But hay that's what was going on with it....The first time it did that dad thought someone was trying to steal it.....He got his gun and went outside and looked inside and stepted back....Cause no one was inside on that hot summer day...All those many years ago...I know this sounds like a lie but this is truth...Anyway this is a awesome find....Thanks very much...PS what is going with engine swap in the old Truck ???
Thanks for the return text...God bless you fellers....This old man loves to see stuff like this...Cause when l was a boy this stuff was new for the most part...!
Thats a fun story. Electrically its not hard to believe. It must have had a flat battery quite often. Cheers
I believe you on the truck starting its self. I had an 82 suburban with a 6.2 diesel that would start cranking on its own. Im sure it would have started if it hadnt been so cold and the glow plugs werent on. Scared the bejeebers out of me the first time it happened. I also thought someone was trying to steal it.

Look for Kermit Weeks, Fantasy of Flight on RUclips. many of the planes you miss will be found there in flying condition. And Kermit says he wants to be him when he grows up, who could blame him, he's truly living his dream!
Woow I hadn't seen a 1940 Chevy step van like that one before u guys @ ( Turnin Rust) find another super rare germ.
You should keep this stock because it’s so rare
Agreed!!!
That's the plan! It's a 1 of 1.
Also this one should be actually restored and painted not left in patina. This is too rare of a piece to not treat right or to chop up.
@@TurninRust Even though I'm a rodder and can already picture it modified, in this instance I totally agree.
Here's another thought though:
It wouldn't be hard for someone with a similar body to replicate this van using the front grille etc from a donor Chevy. That way we get it both ways: A restored original and a "repro-rod" version!
Bag it and enjoy it! What’s the fun in it sitting in a private collection for no one to see
He is a lucky guy being in this with his dad. I'm a freak about old cars and have more than I will ever live to see restored. My dad and I were at two different ends of the world when it came to my old cars. I saw treasure he saw junk. Lost my dear dad in 2014. I miss him every day.
you know Lance, you come across as a very personable guy, you are always respectful and non- judgemental with those you meet, the world needs more like you.
Surprised you correctly recognised the Morris Minor cars you saw in this junk yard, made me smile hearing you call them clown cars, how about doing one up as "Joker"
Some vehicles by the nature of their rarity need to be restored to original condition. We car guys owe it to history.
From my experience, we buy a lot of pickups for my work. Just talking to the ole boys for a decent amount of time and listening to their stories can drop the price in half 😉.
That gentelman knows his stuff, hes rarer than van is.😉thanks you guys, and also our new freind with a couple of rigs he might want to sell. Thanks for thinking ahead all of those years ago, just for a day in the distant future, today is that day. Crazy. Peace my brothers.
All of those beautiful old cars and trucks may look rough but they have so much more potential to be something even better than a new car.
Restore it to its original state like back in the 40.
Blessed and truly highly favored to find this rare gem 💎 diamond in the rough for real🙏🏼👌🏼
Some new ten ply truck tires ,disc brakes ,New up graded motor,a new check book,a lot of elbow grease and paint ,many man hours ,but it's worth restoring ,never seen one like it.it's very cool
I did a complete rebuild on a 1950 216 c.u. motor. The rods can be rebabbited and the rod caps have several shims between the rod cap matting face and the rod. When the bearings start wearing the oil pan can be dropped and the rod caps bolts loosened so you can then pull 1 of the shims out of each side of the cap. The shims are usually around.003 thick and they usually have 3 on each side of the cap for a total of .009-.010 possible adjustment. When the cap bolts are tightened back up, the rod and crank clearance is back in specs. This can be done about every 25,000 miles. When the last set of shims are pulled, it's getting close to the time to get the rods poured again, but you're talking "maybe" 100,000 miles. The main bearings are adjusted the same way. When the molten babbit is poured into the rebuilt rods they use centrifugal force to make them round and true. The 216 is a fun motor to rebuild and parts are still easy to to find.
OMG…Just found this channel…fell in love instantly…truck is cool as hell…can’t wait to see u get it running…new sub…😊😊😊👍👍👍

I like your Jesus hoodie , I took my 53’ 5 window for “my” 1st ride, never been in one, (100% original runs great) I had to press a button on the floor to start this truck (wow so nostalgic!). While I waited for the engine to warm up I realized I was being transported back in time smells of the original interior, the sight of the gauges was a blast from the past. It was a pretty special day taking a ride out in the country parked by a river and I thanked God for His Son And I looked over to the passenger side and I swear He was sitting right there with me Jesus that is LOL pretty special day God bless you guys. Merry Christmas thanks for doing what you do.
The only future i can see for something that is possibly one of a kind is a slow full on restoration.
I agree.
@dale gribble the reason they look more interesting is because the design came from the mind of a living person, which gave them character. These days, the designs come off a computer program designed to give low drag and high fuel economy, which means they all look the same ... same = boring.
Hey love the sweat shirt brother.and it's a rare truck for sure ,i hope one day see it on the road..
I’m broke but one day mock my words imma buy one of ur builds. I love what y’all stand for. I prey y’all get your own show bless y’all and all y’all do.
That salvage yard is incredible. Nothing like that here in Australia, as most of the old vehicles were crushed decades ago. It's really hard to find old cars now and parts are like hen's teeth with prices to match.
It's hard to come by a place like that here in the states to.
"Vee-Hick-Ull" 😂😂😂
Really cool old truck! Even if that 216 is toast, I’ll bet you can find a later 235 that’ll get her back up and rolling! Now let’s see you work your magic!
Wow what a cool place! "Field of dreams", you said . I think that sums it up! There's enough there to keep ya'll busy for years. I'm really enjoying your soundtracks. From the cool intros to the highlights throughout. The music is telling the story as you see it unfolding on your screen. Like the song playing during the 'ol gals upwards climb out of the weeds and up onto the trailer. Loving it!. Great story so far. I think this gem is in good hands!
I appreciate y'all. That delivery rig is sweet. It was waiting for y'all all those years.
Great video guys. You guys deserve a million subs. Keep up the good work!
I like the way Lance negotiated the deal in a very polite way......what a Good buy indeed .......
There is one of these sitting up in Saint Francis Minnesota. Owned by a former friend of mine. Just rusting away, sitting by the side of the road with a big Goofy agricultural sign on it.
Also, there's a bunch of old style food and maintenance trucks for sale by my work if you guys are interested.
watching 2 calm gentleman negotiate a price is wonderful
That was better than going to a car show
That ol guy reminds me of Carl Childers
it's kinda emotional watching as that old van leave that yard knowing its going to get a whole new life.
Sah-weet find. Man I think this is the first time I've got to watch the trailer in action. Wow!!!! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for another great episode...
this seems highly produced for a youtube channel lots of edits, multiple camera angles, music that's original or paid for through a license, looks like a show that could be on cable... either a talented and dedicated grp of people putting this together for the love of it or it's costing big to get an episode done... kudos
good channel if I wasn't clear :)
Just 3 guys with alot of passion for old vehicles!
Lance & Wyatt are the brains of the operation, knowledge, and builds!
And i have a background in film/editing. It all just works extremely well together!

@@TurninRust Awesome work guys, you amaze me with the quality of work and care you all have for these old beautys. Thanks!!
It's better than anything on cable due to the lack of manufactured drama or fake time constraints. This is great stuff.
I'm excited to see it running and fixed up. Good find Turning Rust!
One thing I would love to have once again that will likely never happen, is to get another best car I ever had in my life from 1972 to 1974. It was a blue 1964 Ford Galaxie with a 390 ci engine with a black interior. From 1972 to 1973 I took a 1500 hour course in auto mechanics. I did some tweaking with the carburetor and the distributor timing to my Galaxie and got more power and since it had a positraction differential I destroyed many tires doing burnouts.
Well done boys keep it up By the way love the sweat shirt
Oh my God, I can't wait to see that one done. Subbed.
Lance, spent most of 40 years driving step vans we had 10' 12' and 14' Chevy and GMC chassis with Grumman bodies. I started with a 10' 1967, 4 speed in 1970. Like you never seen a 40, really cool can't wait to see where you take it !!!
Glad to see more content from you guys. Love the builds!
I TOTALLY appreciate a Man that would wear a sweat shirt that says "Jesus" on it not once but 3 times! I hope you're Christian and it's not BS. If so I admire this channel even more! This is such a RAD truck and I can't wait to see what you all will turn it into! BTW I'm a Ford man so yjis is saying a lot! TY ...Newk from Kentucky

We had milk truck delivery until the early 70's when I was growing up. There was a little junk yard in our area that had at least a dozen old milk trucks in a row out back. Bums used to camp out in them so you had to be careful going in them. They definitely weren't this type, but this one sure brought back memories.
I love rusty gold but gotta say that’s one sexy duramax
Such a rare vehicle would need to be restored to a certain extent . especially with the truck nose. Even though the US didn't enter WW2 until 1941 the bigger corperations were gearing up for War production from 1939 so the van was probably considered to be of little importance compared with GM's other projects such as Chev military pattern trucks and GMC 6x6's.
The US didnt show up for WW2 untill 1942 and civilian cars were sold in 42 over here new cars stopped in Sept 39 when WW2 started.
If it's actually that rare it should be restored , but anything you guys do is better than sitting in a junkyard. Awesome video as always.
We have huge plans on a full original restoration!! With it being a 1 of 1, we wouldn't dare do anything crazy. lol
@@TurninRust That's awesome man , can't wait to see it, thanks for all the amazing videos!!!
I'm pretty sure those were still around as milktrucks when I was a kid in the early 60's (I'm 63) in N.Y. and upstate N.Y. too. I remember them because I thought they were so cool. Such classic old time
styling. 👍🇺🇸
Love the sweatshirt. My one question is how you. Kept it clean while meandering through a salvage yard. You may find that in 1940 the US was starting to become the arsenal of democracy . The changeover to war production was getting into first gear and certain vehicle productions were being laid to the side and your stepvan was probably one of them.
Love the cars wish I could come with a wad of cash and bring some back to New Zealand, awesome also in Jesus we trust

I absolutely love the small changes you all have done with the way you're shooting the episodes. I noticed it especially in this one, I liked how as the seller and Lance were talking about the cars and the super cool van you guys bought, You guys continued talking as photos were coming up of the vehicles and how the frames would switch back and forth as Lance made his commentary. The overall formatting that Wesley is doing is fantastic. The music isn't too loud between takes and he captures so many cool camera shots and story line. You guys are growing and it's really cool to watch it. You guys are definitely my favorite channel. I apologize if I seem too forward I just speak from the heart and my passion for vehicles. Keep up the great work Turning Rust. Marry Christmas and God Bless.
This is really a 1940 Chevy divco dubl-duti milk truck
best sweatshirt ever man, God bless =)
excited to see the progress on this one. My brother was homeless for a stretch and lived in a box truck that doubled as his mobile mechanics shop. Super cool!
I recently read an article on Wikipedia about the Pak-Age-Car, which was a 1930's delivery van, made by the Stutz Motor Company until it went bankrupt in 1936, and then by Diamond T Trucks until 1941, when Wartime needs ended production. It says that 3.500 were built, and only 10 survive. If Chevy only made 100 of their Dubl Dutis, yours IS the only survivor, assuming that math holds up. If so, I look forward to seeing as close to a factory restoration as possible!
God's blessings be upon you and your family, Amen
I’d love to no the history on it I’ve always wanted a divco milk truck
I can't believe you got that old van running ..you guys had me happy watching it
They're rare now because they were used up and scrapped in the 50s to 60s . Many were turned into sheds and storage buildings.. But they built several thousand of them for all kinds of service companies and delivery sevices. I had a 1941 Ford 1ton Bread van complete with a good engine. Stripped it off the frame and made a hoist truck out of it and a storage shed out of the truck body..
