I cried at the ending of the Italian campaign story. Going through all that to find that his brother was already dead. And the fact that it was told from the perspective of the soldier as an old veteran telling the story after the fact... makes you think about how hard it must have been to be a WWI veteran even years later.
“He never got older. And here I am still... Who decides such things...?”
Rip
I felt very emotional when I saw that story, it inspired me to visit the real Monte Grappa war memorial.
The lost generation
My grandparents went through WWII as kids/teens, and lived in a country that never took part in the conflict directly. My grandmother still gets teary eyed talking about Jewish refugees having their coats repaired for free by her mother because they were unable to pay.
The people who never saw war, be it on the frontlines as soldiers or as civilians living through it, will never know what it was like. And I pray that a day will come when nobody will know what it was like anymore.
I remember my first time playing was on the couch with two of my friends, taking turns with the controller. When that intro text came up, “You are not expected to survive,” we all went silent. Like, impossible fights in FPS games aren’t new, but something about the game outright saying “You will fail. That’s the way it is” is just…wow.
I'm still dumbfounded on why you didn't win the scores from BF1 a lot more often. From enchanting, to inspiring, to ominous and moody, the scores pretty much captures a soldier's mind during/after a battle or even before entering the war itself.
Yeah I have 166 hours. And even watching this video, hearing the score, songs, themes, it brings tears to my eyes. Just thinking about it now brings tears to my eyes. They are just so beautiful and well done. I think part of it is that those 166 hours of all the happy memories of me and my friends come to mind when I hear these songs.
Hell I remember just sitting in the lobby together after a good game and we all had the same song (Zajdi Zajdi) playing and we were all just sitting there in silence just shocked by the awe of this song. And afterwards we were all speechless for like 30 seconds and we were like “wow”
I love BF1. And I hope the battlefield 2042 has a team just as good and dedicated behind it.
We will remember them.
I loved the placement of the music during “The Runner”
Like, australian man did his job
This channel is severely underrated
Little do you know where it would be 1 month later....
@@callmenerd4747 or seven months later
@@CherryBotV2 seven months and 8 days later
1 year later still the same
I severely agree
The hats the australians wear are called slouch hats, they had an upturned brim so a rifle could be carried over the shoulder easier. We still use the hats today for remembrance day and ANZAC day.
As someone who had family that served for the United States in WW1, it’s always great to see this war get representation. It’s always drowned out by WW2 because it’s easy to tell who the good and bad guys are, whilst in WW1 the sides on whether they’re good or bad are much more blurred, much more of a gray area.
Are you sure it was easy telling who was the good guys in ww2 because the allies also committed war crimes as well including bombing civilians and what's worse is that they also covered up those warcrimes and the fact that the bombing on civilians was on purpose meaning the allies are no better then the axis were
I wrote my history project on the Harlem hellfighters after playing this game!
This game made me so passionate about WW1 that I wrote multiple university papers on the subject
Same except I didn’t Write papers I did as much research on world war one as I could
Dude that's awesome
What did you write about? I’d love to read them
Great video. I have never played the battlefield games but I love history and will have to pick this up at some point. thank you for introducing it to me.
This was my first FPS believe it or not i started playing videogames in 2013 but i never played an FPS until 2017
All I’m going to say Battlefield4 battlefield1 battlefield five some of the best
@@melissajohnson5734 some of the best campaigns. Specifically in direction, story and character.
“They push-we push. Every once in a while, we push hard enough that the light breaks through the clouds... so the world beyond the war glimmers... just out of reach. The war is the world and the world is the war. But behind every gunsight is a human being. We are those people. We are the jaded and we are the naive. We are the honorable and we are the criminal. We are the bound-for-legend and we are the lost-to-history. We are the knights of the sky, the ghosts in the desert, and the rats in the mud.” I loved this soooooo much. That monologue is beautiful. Battlefield standards fell off hard after BF1 and BFV.
I love the war stories, but I did hope there were one from the german perspective when it came out. They didnt even start the war in the first place... they only joined it.
Very strongly agree, that was what I felt the game really lacked, it came off in a way similar to 1917 which portrayed German troops more as obstacles than humans. Though I would argue that they did have a big role to play in starting the war, Germany had the power to calm Austria-Hungary but instead "signed the Blank Check" wholly backing AH's war attempts. If the "Blank Check" wasn't sent, Austria would have backed down from the threat of the Russian Empire on their doorstep
Well in battlefield five they have the German soldier perspective
I wish there was another Itailan campaign
kinda instigate the one who did tho
With Pritchard in Through Blood and Mud I think you can also say it was accurate that we didn't know anything about him because we are the new guy in the tank, we get into battle, and he dies very fast. Tons of men in different units didn't survive long enough to get to know each other.
As an Australian having representation of the sacrifice made by the ANZACs in video game format was greatly appreciated. Gallipoli isn’t talked about much outside of Australia, New Zealand and Turkey especially because it was basically British officers using thousands of Aussies and Kiwis as cannon fodder in a brutal campaign that they themselves didn’t even visit.
Wow cant belive i inspired this video
How
Thanks for covering this game. It was a fun one to work on, and it makes me so happy people still remember it so fondly.
It’s the best, my personal favourite, game ever made
This game gets you to learn about history while being fun
The meaning of the war story’s is the beauty and terror of war
One of the best fps’s if you ask me
i'm shocked you didn't mention the music this game offers...
Same
Why the heck didn’t you win Mateo’s death? It was one of the most powerful moments in the campaign.
It's true. Everyone does look better with a cape
YES
8:53 that is a traditional macedonian song, and i have no fucking clue how it slip by me when i played the game, it gave me goosebumps listening to it
This game is my third fav BF games, the atmosphere is just great.
This is my third ever battlefield game never mind this is my second battlefield five is my third
In the beginning I don’t think that soldier is jaded so much as in “shell-shock.” Like that man was not there. His physique is broken. He had no clue what was going on around him. It’s a nice yet haunting touch that DICE did to show the horrors of frontline combat especially in WW1.
How about battlefield 5? I don’t think it was as good in total but “the last tiger” was definitely a pinnacle in that game. It was risky to have a mission from the Nazi’s perspective but it brings to light just what it must have felt like to the german soldier who is having their fake reality crashing down around them. It had to be a level of jarring that we could never understand.
The last tiger was amazing in showing that towards the end of the war in Europe the Germans were just tired of fighting and the only reason that it was still going on was because of blind fanatic devotion caused by Hitler and the Nazi’s with there god complex
Story wise I agree with you but the gameplay of that mission kinda was a miss for me. Driving a huge tank in a narrow or crowded street with limited mobility doesn’t offer a very good gameplay experience in my opinion
I’m just sad that you left out the scene of the Italian Shock Trooper fighting off an entire squadron of planes with the flak gun, especially the sound design as he’s saying “nothing could dent my armor”, with the added sound of the bullets deflecting off him as planes dive bombed him!
How are there only 3 comments on this these videos are amazing
The introduction of storm of steel is almost a 1 by 1 copy of a scene from the Canadian film Passhendaele
I barely played the campaign but I definitely felt my great grandfathers experience. Over and over and over and over and over. War is hell
"dice has never made not a gorgeous game"
BfV- let me introduce myself
He said never NOT made a gorgeous game
Perfect Award at the end.
Battlefield One! Thank you Gaming Wins!

I love how the game if you boot it up for the first time that your just dropped into storm of steel and the chaos and hell that is WW1 all to dream a little dream of me.
I deadass used the exposition from the narrator before each story in my project for school years ago
Well I'm reinstalling this game again
You deleted in in the first place what are you crazy
You got my sub and you deserve so many more keep making amazing content and i will watch it 🙏🏻🙏🏻
BF1 is my Sunday comfort game I will almost always try to fit playing it a bit into my schedule
As a huge conservative and history freak, I LOVED seeing the Harlem Hellfighters on the cover. I didnt know much about them but I knew who they were. Seeing them on the cover excited me because people would now be introduced to an obscure part of history. I unfortunately forgotten a lot about the Harlem Hellfighters, and all of World War 1, so watching this made me want to go back and relearn. This war changed so much and brought upon discoveries and advancements in medicine and technology. This war started the modern age! Sad, but true.
On the subject of DICE campaigns, the Battlefront 2 campaign was a cool idea and well executed
if i had one criticism id have liked to see a central powers campaign maybe as one of the solders in the Austro-Hungerian empire from the Balkans or at the very least a Russian Campaign maybe centered on Sarkamush or culminating in Tannanbutg 1914
I swear I’d watch a 8 hour video just listening to this guys beliefs
This game gave me chills several times and that is all that’s needed to be said
This was a true Lu phenomenal game, the campaign was great and the operations were so fun. Easily my favorite battlefield game
I love your channel keep up the great stuff!!
I knew about a lot of those perspectives long before this game. Not just the Harlem Hellfighters, but the other factors as well. After all, the matter with the middle east was part of what Bin Laden was talking about in one of his speeches. When the towers fell (I was 10 then) 80 years prior, they had been promised more say in what happened if they aided the allies against the Ottomans. Let alone the fact the Germany lost over 1/3 of their land and were forced to pay the debts of most other nations after this war. And we know where that decision led.
I'm really late to the part but I just wanted to say this. I just picked up this game and its amazing. I love the war stories so much. My only complaint is that the characters feel more hollow. They werent fleshed out as much as I hoped. Hell they even gave up on the PTSD screen change thing after the first mission. I also would have preferred a couple more mission, maybe one from the german side or the Russians. These are all really nitpicky though and I love the game.
Hope you make a vid on Battlefield 4. THE best of the series!
5:20 Did you- Did I just hear arthur?
Battlefield 1 may have technical problems but I enjoyed it, however BF1 had way more than what BF5 had including significant events.
Also for blacks in WW1, they did exist, especially the African-Euro colonies, when war gets bad, you need bodies.
what was the song at the end? It was nice and touching.
What's the song in the beginning pls
While I forget what the title is, but just check BF1 ST album. It is filled great music.
Underrated game, underrated channel
the two of hearts has one of the hearts burnt
0 disliked perfection
I’m sorry to tell you but I just found a dislike on the video
@@melissajohnson5734 welp
I only played the multiplayer of bf1, my favorite of all time
Where people look for mistakes, this man looks for the wins
EA with DICE and Danger Close did sound better than any other war game. Battlefield and MoH had flaws, but sound design was not one.
I’m not sure if this is just me but is anyone else having sort of like deja vu? I swore there was a egw battlefield 1 but I can’t look it up, this vid is great too btw but i could’ve sworn there was another one 🤨
I love your channel
I don’t remember people say that there weren’t black soldiers in WW1, but hay I already new about the Harlem hell fighters
Can you please do Battlefield Bad Company as well 1&2? It had fun and diverse story.
First BC is great, BC2 failed to capture as it felt the theme MW trilogy got.
I watched this in hopes it will convince me to play the game after watching I think I'll give a it a try
Battlefield V can you be next ? Plz
"He never got older"
Wished the French and Russians were part of the base game with their own War Stories
Review AC3
On your point about the Hellfighters and, Blacks, for lack of a better term, being in a WW1 game wasn't people's reason for being annoyed. It wasn't racism, maybe some was from those few people, but for the 99%, it wasn't. It was about colonial troops being where they shouldn't, a la, African snipers on the German side in both the Eastern and Western front when there easily could've been an African campaign, or multiplayer map, for Germany which would've been perfectly fine, or Sikh Indians being, again, in places they didn't serve; Europe, but fine in the Sinai and Middle East environments. It's a bit disingenuous to frame the whole argument as "People being racist for racist sake"
You should mention the black in cavalry too. But still, I think it is just pure mistake instead of being woke that some claimed. I mean, I think Ottoman soldiers are mostly... Turks, with cavalry as exception, I guess. Same goes to Italian and Austro-Hungarian.
Eternal now 🔫

I agree that the Harlem hell fighters are badass but your use of the argument about people not wanting black people in the game is nothing short of a straw man. People didn't like the fact that there were so many black German soldiers which for the most part didn't really exist. They very much did in French and American services but not so much under the german flag, the exception being in german held Africa. Just wanted to point that out.
Notice only 2 wins for all of the 3rd story because in all honesty it’s by far the worst one
