The guns were thrown away by the air forces after the realization that 9mm glisenti does nothing to planes. The army was given them and hated them just as much. They asked Beretta to fix the gun’s issues and the 1918 was the result

    1. The airship didn't have rockets, it was from an autocannon 2. It was a field gun, not a rocket 3. Yes, all tanks were on the British side, but the Germans captured British tanks making tank-on-tank battles more common. 4. The m1907 SL is a semi-auto rifle, you showed a shotgun lol. 5.
The flamethrower shown in the video was a "Wex", it is a one-man flamethrower. 6. The field gun was used as an At gun during ww1. It could easily penetrate the armour of any tank in ww1. Nice video, but please carefully research the time period before you come to conclusions on the weapons and battles.

Let me start this out that saying that I love this video, I love the creator, and I love the series. I am a bit of WWI enthusiast. I have dedicated many years of my life to researching the conflict and have even had a hobby of collecting relics from the fighting. I thought I would take the time with this comment and help further educate the audience, as well as the content creator, on some aspects of the war. You shared many good points, though I can't help but correct you with some. Any inaccuracy he mentioned that I did not put on this list was accurate and I left untouched. I am still learning myself, this all comes from information I have gathered over years of research, if I got anything wrong, please let me know, I am very interested in further discussing this topic.
    1. (1:30) The war story "Storm of Steel", from my research, was not explicitly given a battle or time period other than "late 1918". Battlefield 1 has a separate map placed in the Second Battle of the Marne that is much more accurate, which leads me to believe that this is implied to be a different sector and battle entirely.
    2. (3:01) You are absolutely right that the Harlem Hellfighters were issued standard French gear, meaning in most situation the Benet-Mercie would not have been issued to them, it is also important to note that by this time in the war, most armies were struggling to scrape together resources, meaning it's not entirely out of the realm of possibility for the French to issue a couple old Hotchkisses they had lying around.
    3. (3:42) The "rocket" is a shell being fired from a field gun; Battlefield has an odd obsession with insane bullet tracers which gave it that impression.
    4. (3:55) I tried doing some research of the claim that Germany during WWI would use machine guns in an assault but couldn't explicitly find anything to back that claim. I will say, however, that that was a very WWII strategy of the Germans. Assuming that this is a stormtrooper battalion (despite their appearance claiming otherwise), from the flamethrower and grenadiers, they would 100% not have a machine gun assisting in their charge. Machine guns were insanely cumbersome during the first world war, they couldn't easily be disassembled and relocated as they were in future conflicts. Considering this is late war, trenches are most likely obsolete, as seen with the more mobile warfare featured in this mission, meaning this isn't a standard over the top assault, but regardless, the same concepts are there, another reason why the Germans wouldn't be hauling a two-hundred-pound machine gun with them.
    5. (4:58) Your point still stands that the Harlem Hellfighters wouldn't have had it issued to them, but I just wanted to point out that you super fucked up the classification of that weapon, to a degree which is a bit wild. That is not a Winchester 1897, it is Winchester 1907, as the name literally claims. The two guns don't look anywhere near similar, and you can get this info from simply looking up m1907 sl into the google search engine. Regardless your point still stands, I just thought I'd point that out.
    6. (6:10) You're right that most flametroopers had a squad of a couple men assisting them, but there were in fact mobile models that saw combat and were especially common in the late war scene being pictured in this war story.
    7. (7:22) That is 100% not a Maxim, that is the biggest Vickers I have seen in my entire life. Regardless, would not have been available to the Harlem Hellfighters either way.
    8. (7:37) Good point with the trenches, though as I stated earlier. In the late stages of the war, trenches were practically entirely phased out in many theaters as the war became more mobile again following the spring offensive. Considering this is an active frontline, what was once most likely an HQ trench (explaining why it is wider) a couple hundred meters behind the frontline trenches has most likely been abandoned and all of the guns, ammunition, etc. relocated or trashed.
    9. (8:15) Again, those aren't rockets coming from the Zeppelin, they are Autocannons, which in their own right are slightly unrealistic to be on a zeppelin, as they were commonly manned as anti-aircraft guns on the ground.
    10. (11:17) The fact that there was even one German tank meaning saying they were only on our side is an inaccurate claim, that's not even a history thing that's just grammar. Germans didn't produce many of their own tanks, but they did commonly use captured allied tanks, still to no degree that rivaled Allied forces, but much more than twenty.
    11. (11:53) Those are British soldiers, not American, you can tell by uniform, tanks, accent, weaponry, etc. I know you aren't English, so you don't really associate or pick up on foreign English accents, but the commander for that tank is the most British sounding Brit I have heard in my entire life. Another blatant error that I don't know how you made. French and British troops did, in fact, often fight in the same sectors.
    12. (13:22) Again, they are BRITISH troops, they are using a BRITISH tank, because they are BRITISH. One of my biggest pet peeves for people doing sin tallies for Storm of Steel is everyone seems to forget you are hopping between soldiers, you really only play as a Harlem Hellfighters with the first and last guy.
    13. (14:33) Tanks were beyond slow on rough terrain, they most likely had to get to the front quickly, so used the road to hit their maximum speed (which you neglect to mention is way too fast for a tank of the time, especially a mark four).
    14. (15:34) Actually entirely incorrect, the most blatantly false statement of this entire video. WWI tanks were beyond unarmored, they were really only effective against deflecting bullets, a frag grenade, in the right spot, could fuck it up. Field canons were often used as primitive Pak guns because of how effective they were against tanks. One hit could effectively put a tank out of commission.
    15. (17:43) Again, those are British Troops fighting alongside Harlem Hellfighters, how about instead of forgetting that English people exist you realize that the character you are playing as is using an Italian submachine gun that most definitely never saw combat on the Western Front.
    16. (18:10) I am not going to restate my point, its late war, trenches were becoming less common, I think the implications here specifically is that they are fighting in no man's land. Also, not that I expect you to know this, as you most likely haven't played the game, but right over that small hill is a row of trenches.

Another point is that him talking about shotguns, yes the Germans protested them but that was basically done as a deflection for them. The Americans also didn’t like using shotguns as they used paper ammo at the time that would often swell up and jam the shotgun, especially if the ammo wasn’t stored properly, making them ineffective after a few shots. It wasn’t until ww2 when we switched the ammo material to wax in ww2 that we remedied this issue.

7:30 It's actually a british Vickers HMG. The Vickers the German MG 08 and the Russian PM 1910 (also called maxim) are are all kinda the same and based of the original Maxim MG.

The French were added later in the "they sall not pass" DLC, including the French tanks (Renault and the St. Chamond), weapons, uniforms and multiplayer maps about Verdun (a map of a section of the battle in a hill and Fort Vaux), the Nivelle offensive of 1917 and the 100 days offensives.

I've played hundreds of hours in the game and I always feel immersed in the large scale battles, especially this certain large battle mode (I think it's called operations) where you play either as defender or attacker and try to hold or attack 3 objectives againts 20 enemy waves (you get 20 waves of reinforcements too and they reset back to 20 every time an objective is taken if I remember correctly, so a single battle would take probably an hour minimum). A 13.5 mm rifle could punch the frontal plates at close ranges, bundles of granedes tosses at it would be capable to stop it.
A 77 mm shell could do way worse, with a direct hit.

Also this fool says since the Germans only made 20 tanks and that all the tanks were on our side and ignores that Germany captured and fixed 170 allied tanks. So Germany still had a great number of tanks.
He says the missions takes place during the 2nd battle of the Marne but it says that absolutely nowhere in the game so the terrain is accurate, and even if it was during the 2nd battle of the Marne it would be accurate because just like every other battle it was shelled extensively too. Look up pictures if you don’t believe me.
He says it’s normal that there isn’t trenches since they are fighting in a village despite the fact they they did dig trenches through villages, also in the mission it shows trenches in the village, is that historically inaccurate?
He says it’s funny how the Germans aren’t using machine guns, what you want them to carry a 20 pound gun 2 miles for an assault? You would get a heart attack before you reached them. Don’t say he means the mp-18 because those were used by the sturmtroopen, not regular for ordinary foot soldiers.
No the Harlem hell fighters didn’t wear the same uniform as the rest of the soldiers in the French army, did this guy even look at a picture of the French uniform, they aren’t even the same color.
He complained about “random barbed wire” even though they literally had miles of thick barbed wire Forrest during ww1, it would be more historically accurate if there was more of it actually.
4:45 proves that he didn’t mean the mp-18 and actually did mean the mg-08 as if you could carry that thing a mile and set it up without being shot, also wouldn’t they not do that so the enemy wouldn’t capture it
Also he somehow mixed up the model 1907 for a Winchester? They look barely alike. Ones a shotgun and ones a rifle.

Also I have to add the machine gun that you said was German, was actually a British Vickers Machine gun, in which the French forces in WW1 acquired 2,000 of these from the British Military. The gun you were thinking about was the MG08 or the MG08/15, which were German Machine guns. As well the German Zeppelins, were known to fire an anti aircraft rocket, which were meant to destroy or ward off attacking planes. these would also be used by fighter planes, mainly against the German bombers and Zeppelins. But it was a rarity to ever see the rockets ever hit the ground. But there were accounts that the rockets would explode either from a few minutes to near an hour when they would explode, the same could have been said about bombs that were dropped, and didn't explode, this was seen mainly during the blitz bombing raids during WW1.

My corrections of his mistakes and mission mistakes in general :
    1. Great war ended no wars behind. Collapse of Russian and Austro - Hungarian Empires came as aftermath of WW 1.
    2. Uniforms soldiers are wearing are incorrect. They are a mix of british / american uniforms from the period. They should be replaced by French brown " colonial " uniforms.
    3. Tanks in the whole mission are British. They should be replaced by french Renault FT - 17 light tanks, most of them with machineguns.
    4. Soldiers NPCs are british. They should be french.
    5. Weapon of the first character is incorrect for French army. It is Benet - Mercie machine rifle ( with too wide rear sights, nonexisting tank ball mount for british Hotchkiss Portative Mk.1, tripod and muzzle brake ), that should be replaced by CSRG Mle. 1915, or Chauchat in french service. Gunner should have assistant who carried ammo.
    6. Landscape itself is based on the battle of Passchendaele from 1917. Terrain should be much less devastated and should have more green tones.
    7. Barrage baloons in the distance are incorrect. They are british ( originally Italian ) Avorio Parasone barrage ballons. There should be none, as french rarely used them.
    8. German soldiers should all wear Stahlhelm M1916 helmet, instead of Pickelhaube and Gaede helmets. Gaede helmet ( or better called skull cap ) was issued 3 years prior to events in the mission, and it was issued in limited numbers to troops stationed in Vosges mountain range.
    9. Grenades used by player are unrealistic. They are Mills No.36 bombs, used only by british troops. Reasonable replacement would be french OF.1 grenade, and player should have 1 grenade max, not 3.
    10. There are no rockets in this mission, they are german FK 96 n.a. field cannons that were used as anti tank guns and support guns.
    11. Player's secondary weapons is incorrect. Instead of american M1911 ( with no striker pin, M1911A1 grips and too wide rear sights ), he should carry either Ruby Mle. 1915 semi automatic pistol or Mle. 1892 revolver.
    12. Too many soldiers have LMGs. They should be armed with either Lebel Mle.1886 M93 rifle or Berthier Mle.1907/15 rifle.
    13. The gun first soldier picks up is in fact historical. It is not M1897 trench shotgun. French used small numbers of Winchester M1907 rifles that were converted to fully automatic fire mode, with extended magazines and this rifles had bayonet lugs. They were never issued on a large scale as combat rifles, but were issued as backup arms for drivers.
    14. Flamethrowers shown are not "Kleif" models, but "Wex" models, that replaced Kleifs in middle to late 1916. They should have much higher range.
    15. Machinegun that second soldier has is not German MG 08, but British Vickers M1914 HMG with 1918 slotted jacket and assault tripod mount from after the WW1 ( rear sight is too wide ). They weren't used by french, they instead used Hotchkiss Mle.1914 or St. Etienne Mle.1907 machineguns.
    16. Machinegunner should have 2 assistants, one feeding ammunition on the left and one on the right that carries the tripod when machinegun is transported. Both of them are missing.
    17. There were no Zeppelins on the open, large battlefields of WW1. Zeppelin shown here is L30, wich was shot down by british in 1916. His weapons are incorrect. Zeppelins had MG 08/15 machineguns with slotted barrels for air cooling, and not the Becker Autokannone, wich they use in game. Becker autocannon was put into use very late in war as anti aircraft gun and only small numbers have been made.
    18. The gun machinegunner picks up was not used by French. It is again M1897 trench shotgun. Machinegunners were issued only sidearms, namely the Ruby pistol or M1892 revolver, as their primary weapons were machineguns.
    19. Devs aren't trying to dehumanize germans. Flametroopers were wearing BRITISH fireman Model 1878 helmets as extra protection ( inaccurately ) and sometimes later in the war they used M1916 gasmasks instead. It would be much more possible that operators wore gasmasks than british fireman helmets in 1918.
    20. Germans actually had their own tanks. Most of them were "beutepanzers" or rebuilt tanks, mostly British Mark 4 tanks, that were equipped with german machineguns, cannons and even Tankgewehr rifles. A7Vs came too late and in too small numbers to change the war, and they weren't as reliable as british tanks ( british tanks were horrible to work with, imagine how it was in even worse A7V with crew of 18 ).
    21. British tanks were painted in grey or khaki color, not green.
    22. Sights on the british tank are inaccurate. They should be optical, not iron sights.
    23. Soldier who pulls wounded comrade to the rear has Hewehr 1898 with custom white wooden parts. He should have SMLE Mk.3*.
    24. British tanks in WW1 didn't have coaxial machineguns mounted to the gun's side, but were housed a little far behind the cannon in the back of a sponson in wich the gun was fitted in, and were operated by loader of the cannon, not the gunner. Fire rate is too fast.
    25. German field guns are used in the incorrect way. The model shown had 4 crewmembers : aimer, who sat on the let side, gunner, who sat on the right side with his back facing the direction the gun is aimed, loader who ran to shell caison ( wich is missing ) and brang shells in and the commander, who gave orders to fire and where to aim. Gun should also be painted black or dark grey, not dark green. This guns could destroy tank in one hit, as tank's armor was enough to stand rifle round, not a cannon shell. 4 another cannons are missing.
    26. Bunkers are straight out copy of Siegfried line. Real bunkers were much more round and had smaller gun ports.
    27. When the tank was hit into the roof, shell passed trough it and exploded inside, resulting in detonation of tank's own munition. Explosion should be from inside and thank shouldn't fly into the air, but into the sides.
    28. Character puts gas mask too easily. This is incorrect gas mask, the british one from 1940. He should instead have box like M2 gas mask used by french.
    29. Weapon used by character is Italian Beretta M1918 submachinegun that saw very limited service in WW1 and ONLY on italian front. Good replacement would be Berthier rifle.
    30. Flametrooper's gas tanks would explode from only 1 bullet, not 10. They would not explode or set afire, but they would instead spill the fuel, that could be set afire if fire is nearby.

The M1907 was actually a real firearm. But it wasn’t the Model 1897, which was a 12 or 16 gauge shotgun. It was a semiautomatic rifle chambered in .351 WSL. It was considered one of the first assault rifles and saw very limited service in WWI. It was also the design precursor to more iconic, well known rifles, like the M1 Carbine.

    "It ended nothing"
Even though WW1 is called the war to end all wars, more wars followed later in history. I think you misunderstood about that as it wasn't referring to the nations at that time but later wars.
Yes, after the war the Russian Empire, the Ottoman Empire and some other nations collapsed to form new nations but those new nations later participated in new wars , hence the first World War never ended future wars.

For being a professional historian you still get mad at fake "inaccuracies", half of the things you called out where wrong facts, like the maxim machine gun, the winchester being a 1907 present at ww1, Germany capturing tanks and using them against the British, the zeppelin was not using rockets but an auto cannon that was made to be slow for balancing and other nerdy shit

  • @Padriacfain
    @Padriacfain 2 года назад

    Got a few things wrong.
The first gun he picks up wasn't a shotgun, but an semi automatic rifle made my Winchester.
The zeppelin isn't firing " rockets", it's more like a 12 57 mm machine gun that would have that sort of effect.

  • @thelime4147

18:00 the SMG used in the end is a italian Beretta m1918 wich saw service in late ww1 ON THE ITALIAN FRONT, NOT ON THE WESTERN.
And also only about 5000 were made so it would be hard to see them even on the italian front.

For the tank driving on road, a smoother paved roadway means a more comfortable, more stable, and more safer ride. WW1 Tanks basically had no suspension, the amount of bobbing up and down was practically horrendous and hard to fire on the move, in addition, a smoother roadway allows for faster travel, a ww2 tank driving on concrete road would basically drive 2x faster that on say a grassy field, lastly ditches, on a smooth roadway, one can assume that they are less likely going to get bogged down by mud, if they drive and shifted, cratered, soft ground, there is a higher risk to get bogged down by mud.
