Another great video Dr Jake. Topping up your income for what a essentially is a hobby is so impressive. You should be very proud of your achievements. I’d personally love to see you create a RUclips video around your experience with Patreon. Keep up the good work! 👍🏻
Indeed. I cut out a big of waffle about this in the video because I didn't want to come across as bitter. But yes, if you're getting a million views a month or more, you're likely living a very good lifestyle.
As a 'Patreon of the Past' (one of your earliest, I think), it was nice to feel remembered! Sadly, not gone on to bigger and better things, just have less disposable income at the moment. I'm also a proud owner and user of a Dr Jake mug. It is a very limited edition - it has no wording on it, just a photograph. Best wishes for a happy and successful 2023!
Dr Jake, thank you for an honest video about what a RUclipsr can bring home as income. I honestly thought you should make more for your time creating and editing video, but you’d be a better judge of that. I benefited from one of your video showing how to install Apple CarPlay on my Mazda 6. Thank you so much for that.
For me December ad revenue is at its highest and it makes sense why. YT charge higher rates to advertisers in the run up to Christmas as its prime advertising space. For many channel owners I know in other genres they bang out videos like crazy in December.
@@DrJakesVeryBritishReviews yes I’ve seen good growth this year but still not as much as I would have liked. Been trumped by some newcomers into my genre who went viral to the point on channel is 500k subs in 50 videos! 5 years and nearly 50k subs and want the goal of 100k question is can I do that within another 2 years??
I love your videos and your frank and sarcastic delivery... you really amuse me... Just like Mark Valentine, I would also be very interested in a video from you about Patreon.
Thank you, some were good, some were not so good, all were well done. Thanks again, and have a good 2023. p.s. might be interesting to show how an app is put together, people use them all the time and have no idea how they work, possibly.
It's nice to see this honesty as I watch a video last night of someone who boasted they pulled in $2K in add revenue a month. They forgot to inflate the graph as there was under K1.5 views a day. Was utter BS and when I stopped laughing I hit the dislike button. This video is the real life work you have to put in with all those affiliate sign ups, patreon, separate income streams, sponsor ship. I need to branch out as I have kofi and patreon but no affiliate (but I don't really do reviews). I did one sponsorship and found it quite stressful but I got some free stuff from it which was nice. I hope your youtube channel grows in the future. I wish you did a developers log for your app. That would of been interesting.
Happy New Year Doc! A comment on falling payout income... I make dumb music from samples and upload them to a publishing company that then gets me in to Apple Music, Spotify etc.... my point is that why are ALL of my sales in countries that have the lowest royalty rates? I've SOLD 10,000 of one tune and made a big g00se e66 from the sales because the countries have low rates and the music services have something like a $1500 payout threshold. Some countries pay nothing to foreign artists. I could have a hit tune and make around 20 quid (to use a British term). I'm suspicious. Second, while watching this video of yours, I had an idea for a RUclips board game. Going around the board, you can land on a viral square and pick up massive subscribers, and every time the player passes the start, that person loses subs, not unless they pick up a lot of viral cards going around the board. So landing on the viral spaces and collecting subscribers, is the way to win the game. The players who lose all their subscribers MUST still stay in the game and watch the other players amass viral cards and lots of subscribers. The game ends when the player with the most viral video cards and subscribers gets sick of the game and quits. I'm sure the name would be protected, and it couldn't be used but a generic name for the game could be "Going Viral" or something like that. I should write this down.
I don't spend a lot of time with Dr Jake, but I have always enjoyed the time I do spend here. Thanks, Doctor Computer Scientist Bloke, for contributing to keeping me entertained over the years and here's wishing you a very happy prosperous 2023!
Given the amount of subscribers you have, I think it’s safe to say you have plenty of scope to increase your income should you decide to do it. You have great authenticity and thats what sponsors look for most I suspect. Well done, and good luck for 2023.
Amiga 500 "heart". I was a little bit surprised with this video since I was thinking that Amiga is to simple for Adrian. I don't want to be harsh. Slow mem, fast mem (not fast), chip mem (fastest men, also called graphic memory) is a mess specially when someone before modded it. It's very common that the Agnus socket is bad, someone before also wrote it. It's also very common with corrosion on ram expansion connector and especially with before leaking battery. Who knows, it could even be a cold solder joint or short circuit or like you said. Amiga always want to live and play!
We’ve enjoyed your channel for a few years now. You’ve given us some really useful information - thank you. You may have been part of our inspiration to set up our our channel which has been growing ever so slowly… in fact we are quite some way from gaining monetisation but this video has been useful all the same. Thanks again.
I'm pretty sure I was one of your 1st patreon disciples. Unfortunately, my credit card expired and I never got around to updating it. Though I do still like you and the content you upload... keep fighting the good, although less financially rewarding fight Doc
I was surprised that I couldn't see that someone else had worked out your hourly rate, so I was forced by curiosity to do it myself. I'm no mathematician but, assuming £6,500 over 52 weeks, at roughly 2 hours a week, I work it out that you're earning £62.50 an hour. Better than most, I think, though I'm guessing it would take up more than 104 hours a year of your valuable time. Thank you for your service!
The income amount for the number of views sounds about right. These days people are moving to the shorter formats and shorter format platforms. People often post to all the platforms.
Great update, it's not a bad hobby that's not leaving you out of pocket!!! Keep it up, love the sometimes randomness of the next video 😆😲 I can see it now, protein shake review over 2 months drank daily with your pie & chips while wearing lycra 😂
YT isn't recommending your channel to me, I scrolled all your videos past 12 months and iv seen....3 inc this. First was the ebay £140 scam one, then very short Waitrose sandwich but that's it. But now that iv watched and commented, in theory I should get your next few vids recommended. Good luck for next year mate 👍
Hi RUclips sent me to you. I’ve been watching older videos you made about fake Lego brands. I was wondering do you still build and do you know anything about Nifeliz and JMbricklayer? TikTok is short form and to be honest my content is kinda the opposite. OF has a lot of... niche content, so I'm not sure I'd fit in there either. But yes, I'd encourage others to post as many places as possible.
I have noticed that your videos don't come up on my account too often these days, although they used to, for a while. I suppose you could learn to play the system, as others do, if you tried harder. (Not that I'm recommending this) They seem to prefer the bland output produced daily, if you can be bothered?? It's not something that I would ever want to be involved with.

Good one! Happy New Year to you too
