Kronos (1957)

Kronos (1957) is a classic sci-fi film directed by Kurt Neumann. The plot centers around a giant, alien robot sent to Earth to drain the planet’s energy resources. It begins when a scientist, Dr. Hubbell Eliot, receives a warning of an impending alien invasion from an unusual source-a being from space who has taken over the mind of a man named Les Gaskell.
Shortly after, a massive, seemingly unstoppable robot emerges from the ocean. Dubbed "Kronos," it begins to absorb energy from power stations, threatening to deplete the Earth’s power supply entirely. The robot's purpose is to send the stolen energy back to its alien creators.
Dr. Eliot, along with Dr. Leslie Gaskell and his assistant Vera Hunter, race against time to devise a way to stop Kronos before it can destroy the planet. They eventually discover a method to disrupt the robot’s energy intake, causing it to self-destruct.
The film stands out for its portrayal of a robotic antagonist and its early exploration of themes like energy consumption and resource depletion, making Kronos a prescient film for its era. Its combination of low-budget effects, a strong anti-technology message, and classic ‘50s sci-fi aesthetics has earned it a place in cult film history.
