Great video, just got done doing this to mine. I ran my line across underneath seal against firewall. Zip tied it to wire harness and ran through fire wall by steering column. Total time about 30 minutes!!

I'm late to the party, but I just want to say thanks for sharing your knowledge. This solution brought my A/C back to life! It was a great feeling when the cool air came out of the proper vents. When it's 120 outside, it sure helps!

Thank you for blazing the way for this repair. My main vacuum line broke off at the firewall entrance at the AC lines too. I had the same idea but needed confirmation of the line to run. I ran mine through the fender hole and thru an grommet plug in the door jamb. WORKS GREAT. Another gd Ram problem solved. Thanks brother!!!!

Looks like your video is saving me a whole lot of headache. I have an '00 1500 and I believe if you remove the glove box and reach behind the hvac you can feel the a/c core tubes so I am gonna try to feed the line through the same way.

  • @Guneslinger

Worked perfect, I just cut the line where it ran down to the vacuum block, spliced in the hose, ran it out through a opening to the left of the steering column where the electrical for the stereo and amp came through, over top of the brake booster and zip tied it to the electrical harness across to the passenger side, was able to also get that thing away from the exhaust by splicing some line over where the plastic ones are and routing it behind the kegger.

This video is great!! My vacuum hose broke right at the firewall entrance and I was not looking forward to the repair going through the dash. This will save me tons of time!! I'd rather spend a little time and the $10 versus probably $300 plus taking it somewhere. Thanks for the tip!

Did this on mine, but avoided drilling a hole in metal. There's a body plugin a factory existing hole in the door jam/hinge area. I ran the new hose through that. I now get flow from all settings, rather than just the defroster vents. Still have issues with lack of heat though. Minimal heat on lower 2 fan settings, gets cooler on settings 3/4. Flushed core both directions, didn't get much crud out. Temp gauge is where it's supposed to be. My truck is a March 98 production. I've read there was a change in design at some point in 98. I don't have the electric blend actuator under the dash.

I know, 2 years old, but I flushed my core too, not much crud, and barely any heat for the past 10 years.Changed thermostat too made no difference. Mine is a 1-98 extra cab but no rear doors.

I was having some of the same problems with my 99 Dodge Ram2500 Van. After hours of frustration I finally found the ultimate solution for my HVAC problems and that was to pour lots of gas all over it out in the farm yard and put around a 1000 shotgun ,.22 and other various caliber hand gun and rifle rounds into it , then sot a bottle rocket into it and WOOF! up in smoke, didn't burn real good. On the next Monday or tuesday I called Ardnt's auto recyclers to pick up a freebie, the man asked what was wrong with it , I told him it was shot. I bet he couldn't believe his eye's when he picked it up, it looked like Swiss Cheese.

Yeah the vacuum line Chrysler uses isn't good for hot areas, so it dryrots cracks and falls apart, super bad design, what I call the firewall grommet, has multiple lines running through it, the lines inside the truck are fine, but once it goes through the firewall grommet they break right there so I'm just going to take the grommet out, and run all new lines through the grommet hole, but wow dodge what a fail.
