600 years old Arberesh song make-over, a peace of heaven!
A little historical note: This song was written when over half a million Albanians from More region located in the Peleponese (nowdays Greece) migrated to Calabria,Italy during the Ottoman Empire occupation. They are called Arberesh even though are now Italian they are still recorded to practice Albanian tradition.
The lyrics have the same meaning in today's Albanian language and are absolutely phenomenal. They talk about a couple that was very much in love once. They yearned each other and were in each others minds all the time to the point that one could die if they didn't see each other every day.
Was it the love between a couple that needed to be revived, or was it the longing of the people for the place they left behind to never cease? Whichever it may be, the sound of this universal emotion is captured in this rich song by the Spanish Gipsy Balkan Orchestra in a phenomenal performance.
"ku vate moti ca`ish nje here
kur une e ti zemere duheshim shume mire
ku vate moti ca`ish nje here
kur une e ti zemere duheshim shume mire

Русские сняли прекрасный фильм об Албании и Джордже Кастриоти в 1954 год. Фильм выложен на RUclips, но я не уверен, что вы сможете найти оригинальные русские диалоги. I think she actually did a decent job pronouncing the words even though she doesn't speak Albanian let alone the Arbereshe dialect which is archaic. I think she was closer to the Arbereshe accent than even some Albanian singer (who usually sing it with a typical modern Standard Albanian accent or in their regional Albanian dialect). Plus I really like that they sung the original lyrics cause a lot of Albanian singers mix it up with "Moj e bukura More" which is an entirely different song (that one is a sad patriotic/funeral song while "Lule lule" is a lively love song). The only criticism i have is that she pronounces it as "paçe" and "maçe" when it should be "pace" and "mace" so not with a hard "ç" but a soft "c", but those two words are Italian anyways ("mazzo" and "pazzo").
And to all the Albanians complaining that they didn't give credit, they did. Check the end of the video. It's credited as an Arbereshe folk song which is what it is. They're not claiming it to be Romani and the band is known for covering different songs in different languages from different cultures. I don't think anybody in the band/group is actually Romani. I guess they just use the title "G*psy" to seem cool and cause their music is Romani inspired. I can notice that they did put a bit of a Romani musical influence in this song but still I think they preserved the originality of the song really well.

Albanian singers did not mix it up with "Moj e bukura More" (which is 250-500 years old). There were Arberesh themselves that cut "Moj e bukura More", softened the funeral text, and mixed it with "Lule-Lule" 100-150 years ago to create a folk master peace, but which probably killed the full original versions of the two songs.

    • @jakefutplot
      @jakefutplot Год назад

@@marleymarkus3005 Arrogance and ignorance are not an argument. "Lule-lule" is not 500 years song. Very easy to prove it. Arbereshe of Calabria most probably mixed two songs. It is true that "Moj e bukura more" the original song still exists, but the last person I have heard to sing it is Thanassis Moraitis 40 years ago. After him I have heard only elaborated and mixed version. "Moj e bukura more" is from Arbereshe of Sicilia that came from Greece to Sicilia in 16-17 centuries. The first and the largest group was moved by Andrea Doria ships in 1534-1543. Based on historical documents and analysis, the song is created between 1550-1700 and was adapted in early 1800' in the version of Thanassis Moraitis. So it is less than 500 years old, which still makes it extremely old and Albanians should be proud of it.

first of all this is only the second part of the song "Moj e bukura more"
you can refer to Elina Duni for a great rendition

e dal pac, e dal pac
e dalle pace *éshtè e vèrtetè

---there is a missing line ---
se zemra ime, se zemra ime
se zemra ime je ti vetè

It is a very interesting Albanian song; this is from Medieval times when many Albanian nobles were forced to leave Albania for Italy due to Ottoman occupation. Albanian warrior and the leader of the Albanian Medieval Principatities in the war against the Ottomans Prince George Castrioti was taken hostage by the Ottomans when he was only 7 years old. His father John, told George to never forget his homeland (Albania). Castrioti was cotemporary and an ally with Hungary's János Hunyadi; Castrioti was put in charge of an Ottoman army to attack Hungary, Castrioti betrayed the sultan and did not attack Hunyadi, instead he went back to Albania with his personal guard of 300 loyal Albanian yennisaires and created an Albanian League. George Castrioti kept Albanian lands free from Ottomans for 25 years until he died in 1468. A few centuries later when Albania became independent, King Zog of Albania in 1938 married a Hungarian noblewoman, Geraldine Aponyi, nicknamed the White Rose of Hungary. The royal family was not Allowed by the communist regime, but after 1990 the Queen Mother (Geraldine) and the royal family with Prince Leka (for Alexander) returned to Albania; she died in Albania in 2002.
Now, about the song here; being sang by Serbian and Greek members of the Barcelona Band makes it even more interesting when considering the animity between Serbs and Albanian about Albanian territories taken by Serbia at the end of WW1... just like Serbia took Vajdaság (they call it Vojvodina). Greece and Albania have territorial disputes as well; and Greeks do not accept the fact that this is an Albanian song, although it is sang in Albanian and it is part of Albanian folklore since 15th-16th century. Best wishes to you.

that is really interesting that, as an anatolian turk of yörük origin, i always thought that the people from balkans had ruled ottoman empire. The anatolian turks were not so religious like you believe (as i know from my grand parents, they were living between islam and traditional turkic beliefs) but the converted ones (like all converts) were so cruel to the others. (maybe it is about proving something). If you read about ottomans you can find a lot of albanian pashas, generals, viziers etc... and still there are people are living in turkey of albanian origin. at least i have 3-4 friends :-)

Greetings from a romanian from Netherdelands. I have a lot albanian friends , we grow up in northen Italy. If you win their trust, and DON'T EVER talk shit about Shipquirie( maybe the is not correct :D ) and be honestly with them, you win friends for life, they don't let you down, when you need help they will give to you. For the albanians the most important is the family. Those people go crazy after the romanian girls )))) ( at least my friends in that time ).
