Love the Meikle Toir Chinquapin 5 year -- it belies its 5-year age statement. From what I've learned, Chinquapin oak finish imparts a pull of fruitiness and color quicker. It's a solid dram, certainly. As an aside, I am seeing some of the ex-bourbon barrels being played with are, in fact, RYE barrels. Interesting, as I'm not a bourbon lover (sweet cough syrup) but love a solid hi rye (95/5 best), e.g. Sagamore Spirit Barrel Select or a New Riff BottledInBond. Anyway, love the mainland peat and end result for Meikle Toir Chinquapin One. an elegant dram. Thanks much Billy! And thx Whisky Friend!

    Thanks for sharing Alan
Chinquapin has been used by other distilleries, among which is Raasay and some Kentucky distilleries. Never had one myself.

Nice one Alan, glad you enjoyed it. Previous to this I had a Raasay Chinkapin but it had other casks as well, a Teeling Chinkapin and the one you showed the 2008 Single Chinkapin Cask from Glenallachie. I did not enjoy any of them, especially sorry to say but the Glenallachie 😬The Chinkapin, for me, imparts a garbage, sulphury, decomposing plant smell. I did enjoy the Meikle Tor Chinkapin but I think the peat covers that smell or the peat integrates well with it. Nevertheless a good whisky and it's always nice to try new things. Cheers 🥃

Just got an offer to pick these up at $70 US. Does that sound like a reasonable price? As always, thank you for the review and enjoy good Whisky. Cheers All!
