100% this. It’s so hard to keep your nails clean when you have them even slightly long. It gets gross really fast. I don’t have time for that. I’ve had a gel manicure once in the past 5 years for a wedding, and I’ve painted my nails maybe 2-3 times. My nails always feel strange.

Nail style is so subjective because for me, French nails are my least favorite. I think it's because of that shade of pink that's usually used. I actively dislike it.
Mine are short, clean, unpainted because I am always doing something. Dishes, cooking, gardening, metalsmithing, stained glass, sanding, painting, roof repair.... Always something. I got a gel manicure once that lasted barely 2 days. Today were making lactofermented hot sauce straight from the garden, beef jerky and biltong, and moccassins 😂
I play piano, garden and preserve the harvest, and clean houses. There's no way I'm trying to keep my fingernails done, and there's no way they stay clean if I don't keep them cut short. I do paint my toenails, though. It ensures that I give my feet the care they need.
Ditto. Mine from playing ice hockey to painting and gardening. The only paint that hits my nails is literally from being slopping cleaning up afterwards.🤗🇨🇦🙏
That's why I've never understood why some women have nails that are half as long as the finger it's attached to. You can't do shit basically, meanwhile you sound like a really cool and fun gal 😎. Yes, I'm a bloke btw
That’s me too! I occasionally do them for weddings, but that’s pretty much it. I’m also really hands on with art so I get them chipped anyway. Also, it keeps the dirt out from my nails.
I know! Why does there need to be such a specific reason/excuse for a girl to have some regular human female hands these days?? I'm a dude and think all the fake nails and lashes are gross! Just so artificial!
I grew up in the country, and a lot of the chores/jobs I had growing up would instantly damage and wear out any fake nails. Add on the cost to get nails done is the reason why I've never worn them. I call it practical!
You forgot nails of senior citizens who don't give a flip anymore. They're cut down, minimal manicure & no polish. Retired and don't care. By the way, I love your videos! ❤
I know a young woman who had those sharp nails. She went to a very rough high school with drugs and gangs. Those nails saved her more than once when she was attacked. Self defense baby.
I’ve been a massage therapist for 30 years. I’m 50 now and I have only once put plastic on my nails. I couldn’t cope, my life is better for not having to deal with all that nonsense and extra expense.
As a man I've never understood it. Sometimes they're cute yes but generally they don't really add much to a woman's appearance. Nail polish alone on your actual nails should be enough, no reason to grow them an extra inch or heaven forbid add a plastic monstrosity that you know need to maintain.
@@ShaferHartwomen often do things because they like them, not because they think men will find them more attractive ❤ There is life beyond what random men think about their bodies.
I personally love well manicured bare nails. You can buff them till they're shiny, And they are very practical both financially and lifestyle wise. You don't ever have to worry about nail polish or nails coming off and making you look less than "polished" (pun intended). It's a win-win!
Yup! Exactly what I do. I can count on one hand the amount of times I’ve gotten my nails done and my nails are perfectly healthy, strong and well manicured and don’t have damage from getting them done. Also.. I do way too much to waste money on my nails breaking as soon as I touch something.. plus… it just seems incredibly unhygienic to have long, fake nails..
@@Staaaarrrrrrrrrr in healthcare you can’t have FALSE nails. You can grow your own natural nails (as long as they are clean and neatly trimmed) and paint them. The false nails can trap and breed bacteria. That is why they aren’t allowed.

Not quite true 😂 I throw around the football with my teenagers and play baseball with the kids, all while having my nails done. I dont care if they break, I'll just go get em fixed. 😊
As a welder, I get my nails painted black often at salons when I get them done. I’m not gothic. Just practical. Steel dust gets all over my hands anyways, and I end up banging my nails up, even with welding gloves on. So black helps hide all the imperfections in my nails. Lol
That's awesome😂 I'm a contractor as well just installed a sidewalk and working with asphalt right now my nails are getting long again so it looks like I have a perfect black Frenchie so I just do a gel black frenchie loll
Yes, many of us hard working women sport black nails, but the ones in this clip were FAR past that, they were CRAZY long and us blue collar women can’t be bothered with that kind of handicap😅
I keep mine short with a square shape and a dark polish because I also do hard work. Power plant operators probably don’t punish their hands to the same extent, but I have a lot of valves to manipulate and weird work that just requires short, practical nails. I found a dark blue that’s amazing though. In some light it’s almost like a dark, dusty navy and in different light it’s a dark, dusty plum. I love it. I get them dipped so that it’s almost like having armor on my nails. Go in once a month to have them filled and I’m good to go.
Brett... some of us men like these different styles and I personally love the goth girl nails. We do not need to berate women over trivial matters. Keep up the good content im loving it. And yes you do have a point sometimes its off putting as fuck.
I wonder how many men are actually in the no fake nails camp. I'd bet there's maybe a handful of us lol. I don't really get the appeal, but at the same time it doesn't drive me up a wall or anything. I just prefer short clean nails. If she got fake nails it's not a deal breaker lol
Not being a woman, I nonetheless feel bound to offer an opinion on the first set of "claws". I'm a guy, a mechanic, and a veteran, and I assure you that there most definitely IS a legit reason to have long, pointy, and (above all) SHARP claws.......self-defense. Just make sure they're good and strong.

Right? I’m a guy, so obviously I don’t have painted nails, but I’m all for people to just do what they want. I get that most of the women here are like “I’m a blacksmith who moonlights as an oil rig worker”, but if you’re not that and want to paint your nails and have really long nails too, there’s nothing wrong with that. One of my friends does literal art work with her nails, and it looks amazing!!!
@@shma1israel I hate seeing this comment over and over. Like what do you do with your fingers when wiping, that you think its impossible to do with long nails? You stick em in there??? Cause I don't.

This is really refreshing! I stopped getting my nails and hair done, stopped wearing makeup and dressed down cause a guy told me I was too much...and I soon realised how bored I felt. After putting in the effort to do my makeup, get my nails done how I like them, etc. I feel way more like myself and now I'm actually finding guys who, shocker, actually like my personality lmao
I just don't get how women who do nothing to their nails think it's a bragging right and makes them better than women who enjoy nails. And calling them high maintenance for wanting to look pretty, because men spend money on cars, guns, video game consoles, etc. all the time and they are never considered high maintenance, yet those things cost objectively more than getting your nails or hair done and buying some make up. Most women are paying for their own shit now a days anyways. Never met a man who actually gave a shit that I wear a little bit of make up or that I like to take care of my nails and have them longer (thought I do prefer my natural nails over fake ones). If anything, it made them more attracted to me because I was just doing my own thing being a feminine girl, and that's what they liked. Idk how people can know everything about me based on the types of nails I decide to have one week LOL Don't get what's so wrong with that. It's just a way for mediocre women to feel like they are something they are not I guess. It's like how past generations like to brag about how sexually inactive they were to get a one up, despite this generation actually being far more abstinent and childless than theirs.
I'm the first one when I get my nails done. I don't work at Hot Topic but my closet does consist mostly of their clothing. They are indeed impractical. Last time I had them like this I adopted a very young kitten who came to me sick. He was in need of antibiotics and eye treatments. I felt like Edward Scissorhands trying not to poke the poor baby. I cut mine as short as possible. I am a messy artist, a cook, a home-keeper, and a full-time employed computer operator, lol! I don't need to be picking paint, clay, glue, food, or anything else out of my nails. Keeping them short makes it easier to keep them clean.
Growing up my dad would say-- "Having fancy nails won't distract from the tire around your waist." He's never been PC. 😅 But it has kept nails very low on my priority list for spending money on. That and now the toxic crap in most of the products.

I used to hate pink and never did my nails. Never took care of them, never went to have them done. Now I keep them painted soft rose gold, with basic polish, done by hand. It makes me happy. That's all.

And I can do ANYTHING with my nails (type, cleaning, gardening, moving furniture, use tools etc.). They're very practical, just extensions of your fingers people...relax lol.
AND on top of that, who is she to say who has what reason to wear whatever nails. That actually irritated me when she said if you don’t work at hot topic that you have no reason to have those nails. Anyone can have whatever nails they want for whatever reason. This video seemed a little gate keep-y to me. I have short nails, because I play the violin. And even if I'd stop (which won't happen for sure), I'm just so used to keeping them short that I'd find long nails impractical. Luckily, my more fashionable younger sister introduced me to nail polish and now, I sometimes put some colour on them, though I prefer it to stay understated and less attention-drawing. Still, I admire girls who manage to turn their nails into literal art, just not me 😅
Extra short nails for me. Nine years, and counting, of weekly classical piano lessons. You can’t have nails with the proper way you must place your hands and fingers on the keys. Also why Taylor Swift only has nails for an event (like the Grammys). She plays guitar and piano during her Eras Tour, so her nails must be very short. She paints her nails, but I don’t even paint mine. Same with my toes. Saves thousands of dollars per year in mani/pedi’s.
I'm a part-time nail tech, and I've had every single one of these types of nails 🤣🤣 (minus the super long length, but yes to the designs) It's fun to experiment because I can do anything and everything I want with my stuff 🤣
Nail techs are the exception to these rules, I’d say, for that very reason. Kinda like with being a hairstylist, also - we have the ability to change our hair, when we don’t like it; so, it makes the risk of experimenting more practical.
@angelrebekah9153 lol I'm sure she doesn't mean it, but yeah, your nails say a lot about you, just like clothes and hair. It's most likely the mood or holiday/season unless it's the same set year-round then she might be right on the "classic/clean" girl haha

It probably hurt me more than it hurt her but she said she will never get her nails done ever again because she always had healthy nails until now.
@angelrebeemkah9153 lol embroidering and riding horses isn't practical with long nails. I think French nails can never go wrong
My all time fave. Just ordered some press ons
That’s what my sister does
Nail style is so subjective because for me, French nails are my least favorite. I think it's because of that shade of pink that's usually used. I actively dislike it.
100%! The shorter versions of these that take forever to convince the nail lady to do. 😂
Christ loves you beyond comprehension, turn to him❤❤❤❤❤
Mine are short, clean, unpainted because I am always doing something. Dishes, cooking, gardening, metalsmithing, stained glass, sanding, painting, roof repair.... Always something. I got a gel manicure once that lasted barely 2 days. Today were making lactofermented hot sauce straight from the garden, beef jerky and biltong, and moccassins 😂
If you live near Maine, we can be besties. Sewing a skirt while watching this.
I’m knitting let’s all be friends 🤣
Good to learn 😅. As a guy, I like the natural nail look on girls and even prefer it.
You forgot to include the girls who do absolutely nothing to their nails. Got no time for that nonsense! 😂
that would be me! thank you! 😂
It's pointless because one load of dishes and the polish is chipped and yucky looking. Mom life 🤷♀️
I’ve got the Sherlock Holmes profile picture and absolutely nothing on my chipped, picked at nails, and I am happy 😂
That’s me too! I occasionally do them for weddings, but that’s pretty much it. I’m also really hands on with art so I get them chipped anyway. Also, it keeps the dirt out from my nails.
Wow good for you that’s amazing

As a man I've never understood it. Sometimes they're cute yes but generally they don't really add much to a woman's appearance. Nail polish alone on your actual nails should be enough, no reason to grow them an extra inch or heaven forbid add a plastic monstrosity that you know need to maintain.

The last one could also be a pianist or a doctor/nurse. As an ex-pianist, nurse and future doctor 😂
Doctors cannot have long nails. Not even medium nails. It has to be the shortest nails possible and cleanest nails possible.
As long as they're taken care of length doesn't matter. Short nails look great in red
@@Staaaarrrrrrrrrr in healthcare you can’t have FALSE nails. You can grow your own natural nails (as long as they are clean and neatly trimmed) and paint them. The false nails can trap and breed bacteria. That is why they aren’t allowed.

I’ve been both and those are my nails 😂
The last ones are the best girls. I personally prefer the natural fingertip length nails with or without color. As long as they don't have any type of wrap or extension. The other types will NEVER just throw the football around or do anything that might ruin their manicure.
Lol

I found a dark blue that’s amazing though. In some light it’s almost like a dark, dusty navy and in different light it’s a dark, dusty plum. I love it. I get them dipped so that it’s almost like having armor on my nails. Go in once a month to have them filled and I’m good to go.

So one week you wipe yourself, and most weeks you don't? ;-)
@@shma1israel I hate seeing this comment over and over. Like what do you do with your fingers when wiping, that you think its impossible to do with long nails? You stick em in there??? Cause I don't.
As a guy, I like to see women express themselves creatively. I like the first ones (or even longer ones) along with the others. Nothing wrong with being fancy or "girly" if you want to be. Same with makeup. Some guys tell you that all men don't like seeing women wear makeup.. they are WRONG.

Nail techs are the exception to these rules, I’d say, for that very reason.
Kinda like with being a hairstylist, also - we have the ability to change our hair, when we don’t like it; so, it makes the risk of experimenting more practical.

The last ones look the best, by far.
As a person that has short nails, i just think this is the cheapest, practical, natural way to have it. I always cook & work so having long nails or cute nails won't be worth it😅 i only did my nails a few a times & they are so hard to maintain.
So, if i want my nails to look different i just buy press on nails with those sticker things so i won't damage my nails when i want to go back to my normal self😂
The first nails scream “I don’t wash my hands long enough”
Have you never seen a nail brush in your life? I think your statement says more about your personal hygiene than people with long nails.
@@TattyDarling it was a joke, like dang.
@@crimson-py1lq jokes are meant to be funny.
@@TattyDarling it was funny to me
@@TattyDarlingUnfortunately, 99% of the girls I know who frequently wear those nails have never heard of a nail brush, do not own a nail brush, and/or do not wash their hands for long enough (if at all 😬😓).
I don't recommend shaking their hands. 😅
I feel personally attacked 😂
Girl same! Sometimes conservatives take the fun out of stuff 😂. I've basically tried it all and I love my nails done, hence why I learned to do gel x at home! Keep doing what you want on your nails! 🙃☺️
@@angelrebekah9153 I'm a conservative and I agree. I think Brett needs to stick with things that actually better the world rather than berating women on their nails. I just think her ego has gotten kind of big when it comes to comparing women's styles and how they choose to express themselves. I don't think short, undone nails are in any way a bragging right.
“This is getting out of hand” idk why but that made me laugh so hard cause she’s talking about nails 😭
The claws are very very impractical... mine were not even that pointy, but I stopped getting them after I managed to ruin a gorgeous new pair of pants, among many other things... 😅
I absolutely HATE the pointy nails that are popular right now. They SCREAM witch, witchcraft, white magic, black magic, fairies, etc.
I'm a Christian woman and I love the look! 😍
@@angelrebekah9153 Same
As a straight dude, love the claws. For...reasons.
They’re fun.
they scream that to YOU
I call acrylics prosthetics tbh. I will never wear lashes either. I flaunt what the good god gave me and nothing more. Excellent choice going natural. Youre a beautiful woman who has her shit together. Respect!

My mom got her nails done once last month, in 41 years because of her sister’s wedding, she was the maid of honor and she got them done super cute and due to her job her prosthetic nails started falling out and some of them took her natural nails off too, she said it bothered her and that it was barely painful but it hurt me seeing her nails cut in the middle. It probably hurt me more than it hurt her but she said she will never get her nails done ever again because she always had healthy nails until now.
The last one is also "I ride horses, knit, embroider and like to not care looking like an influencer''😅
I don't give two craps about influencers, but I love my nails done for me! I also love all types of styles! Live a little. 🙃🤪
@angelrebeemkah9153 lol embroidering and riding horses isn't practical with long nails. She IS living a little, she is just doing through things she cares about and enjoys and not things that would hamper her ability to do those things, aka long nails. Some of us don't care about fancy nails and enjoy hobbies where long nails are impossible, impractical or dangerous.
Or playing a instrument,
Omg trying to crochet with long nails... I would rather eat bees 😂
Also those fake nails are dirt and germ magnets. Even after washing the hands scary crap has been cultured from them.
I used to do long coffin nails and loved them! I got made fun of for having them very often but I really enjoyed having them. I’m a gifted teacher (if you wanted to guess), love music, know too much about diseases, and keep my hair platinum. I don’t have them done anymore because I hate small talk so much that the anxiety I got every two weeks was no longer worth it.
I recently fell in love with stiletto nails. They make me feel so sassy and powerful lol! They suck tho because you can’t get a lot done with them but I switch back and forth between every style of nail. Shirt square French is my all time fave but I love trying new ones
