  • What will it be like for us when Christ comes again? Will it be a great surprise, or will it be more like an unwelcome Halloween scare? Father Mike Schmitz recommends getting to know Jesus well now, so that when he comes “like a thief in the night,” we will be ready.
Father Mike is a presenter in Altaration: The Mystery of the Mass Revealed, which can be found at bit.ly/1RtVTFZ.

Fr. Mike's comments near the end reminded me of this quote: "Live in such a way that those who know you but don’t know God will come to know God because they know you."

If it means nothing to a non-believer, then you have not accepted the Lord as you Savior. That is your free will. God does not owe you anything, it is your decision as to whether you want to live eternally and become a Christian or the alternative.

C.S.Lewis: "God is going to invade, all right, but what is the good of saying you are on His side then, when you see the whole natural universe melting away like a dream and something else--something it never entered your head to conceive--comes crashing in; something so beautiful to some of us and so terrible to others that none of us will have any choices left? For this time it will be God without disguise; something so overwhelming that it will strike either irresistible love or irresistible horror into every creature. It will be too late then to choose your side... That will not be the time for choosing: it will be the time when we discover which side we really have chosen, whether we realized it before or not."
Father Mike, thank you, thank you for the sobering reminder..

Paul G - I agree and yet C.S. Lewis chose specifically to become Protestant rather than Catholic (despite the sadness of his great friend Tolkein) which always intrigued me. What did such a learned and wise Professor/Theologian know that we don't know?

    • @paulg.9256
      @paulg.9256 6 лет назад +2

I cannot say (nor would I guess since I cannot claim great familiarity). The excerpt above was was just so striking and sobering and relevant to what Father Mike said in this vid, that I had to comment with it. When the clock "strikes that last midnight", our bets have been made, and there is no turning back. I certainly do not know what that moment will look like, but I have a pretty good idea what it might smell like when much of humanity simultaneously loses control of their bodily functions.

Great commentary. I'm reminded of a line from the movie "Do You Believe?" where one of the character's is speaking with an attorney who is about to take away his wealth as a result of a lawsuit he is a party to because of his faith. He tells this woman; "I was once asked if you were charged with being Christian, would there be enough evidence to convict?" Sometimes a line just lives in your consciousness. That one does for me and I fall back on it when I wonder if I'm living my faith or merely practicing it. My goal is to live it. Some days I'm more successful than others but the difference between now and before I returned to the Church is I'm aware of it and I'm trying. Thanks for the video. Love the message.

I think and feel the same way. I met the priest last week at RCIA and after I left, my mind kept telling me “he knows you’re bad”, “you’re not really a Christian”, “you won’t ever truly be a good catholic and he knows”, etc. I have been really struggling with that since starting RCIA. That I’m actually truly bad and am a fraud and wont ever be a good Christian. It goes back and forth in my head like I love Jesus so much and I want so much to be holy! I really do. It’s when I feel my best. It’s what I truly want but I’ve been such a sinner, like I’ve done some bad things (really bad) and been a bad person and the voice in my head is like, “you’re the worst person in that room”. It’s hard. I’ve been looking at the church and Jesus as my refuge. That’s how I feel. A refuge for life, society, my mind! So hopefully it gets better for both of us.

I have great news for you who have these horrible thoughts come up in your heads: it's actually not that hard to make them go away. First of all, acknowledge right away that these thoughts telling you that you are bad are actually the devil/demons tricking you and wanting to lead you astray. It happens to so many Christians, it even happened to Saints. Why? Because the devil knows you are on your way to the right path, and he doesn't want you to suceed. So when you hear these thoughts, ask yourself, are they coming from me or from God? The answer is neither, they are coming from the devil, because the devil is fear and darkness, and God is love and light. Ignore these horrible thoughts and put all your focus on God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. The Trinity will take care of you, be strong! God loves you so much. Have a blessed day 🙏🏽😊❤️

    • @andrearutz4507

Don’t feel like a bad Christian. That is the work of the devil. Jesus does not want you to feel that way. Start everyday with prayer and do your best. At the end of the day review, thank Jesus for the good and ask for Forgiveness for the bad. The end. Start new in the morning! It sound easy but is not. All things are possible through Christ. God bless you and I will pray for you!

If He is inside you then He sees what you see, reads what you read, thinks what you think, feels how you feel, thirsts how you thirst, hopes to see you as you hope to see Him, and all because we will be utterly rendered speechless from the magnificence and heavenly/spiritual glory of our Lord, to see He who has just always been there eternally, beyond time's grasp back and forevermore, just to see this I believe even if we couldn't understand that simple true fact, we will be eternally content to have deserved, received and felt His love, forgiveness and redemption through His son, our Lord Jesus Christ.

So, live as if Jesus is standing right next to us at all times, as though he is hearing and seeing everything we say and do, and judging and correcting our words and actions at every moment, reminding us to keep them in alignment with his command to love God with our entire being and our neighbor as ourself. Sounds easy enough.😋

Fr. Mike, will you talk about Orthodoxy, particularly the wonderful spiritual text The Philokalia, which was given an imprimatur when it was published in Venice in the 18th century? Or perhaps you could talk about Bl. Seraphim Rose? I think it is particularly important given the situation in the Middle East.

I’m scared because I sin after day after day after day etc. I pray every night and I still sin and constantly ask for forgiveness. I believe Jesus is God and died on the cross for my sins. I’m scared to see Jesus because I know I am guilty at judgment. Will I be saved?

“We place our destiny in the hands of the Lord, not in human hands, because his mercy is as great as his majesty.” Sirach 2:18
“The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy.” Psalm 103:8
God knows your heart my friend. He knows the difference between accidental sin and intentional sin. He knows the difference between ignorance and genuine hatefulness. No one is perfect, that is why Jesus came to die on the cross for us. Just try your best to fight against the flesh and everything will work out in the end.

My wife and I are protestants. For a couple of years, we attended the services of one particular protestant congregation about twice a month on average. While we were doing that, one of the young men who had also been attending fell off a bridge he was helping to construct or repair (I don't remember which), landed on his head and died a day or two later from his injuries.
His wife had also been attending those same protestant services so she asked that that protestant pastor make conduct the funeral. The young man's family, however, were all adherents of the Roman Church. So the protestant pastor asked their priest to have some small part in the funeral in the protestant church building AND to conduct the graveside service.
At the graveside, the priest said that he had never met the young man while he was alive but, from what he had heard about him, he expected to meet him in the resurrection.
As my wife and I were walking back to our car after the graveside service, we overheard one of the members of the (ostensibly?) protestant congregation say to another, "Resurrection! Resurrection! What kind of comfort is that? Resurrection?"
Anyone please feel free to comment.
P.S. I know this is not on topic but pretending to have just mangled someone with a chainsaw is a good way for someone to get himself shot!
